Friendship and nostalgia in Cap Ferret
FrenchEddieFelson5 May 2019
This movie is the long-awaited sequel to Les Petits Mouchoirs (Guillaume Canet, 2010). After a long parenthesis without giving any sign of life, the 60th birthday of Max is the occasion of reunion, excuse and forgiveness, then animated and lively evenings in the Arcachon Bay, with a few nostalgia sequences. The film is based on the friendly relationships between a myriad of complementary and endearing characters. You might appreciate the movie. In the worst case, you will leave your movie theater with an irresistible desire for oysters.

Worth the wait
jdrennan1329 May 2019
I was lucky enough to see this film in Marseille, even though I am from Sydney, Australia so will have to wait a long time to see it in English.

The film centres on the birthday of the formerly bon viveur Max and his gang of at times free-loading, yet loving friends. It is evident that life hasn't treated him well.

I adored Little White Lies, which highlighted Guillaume Canet's great skill as a director, and once again he doesn't disappoint, I would even say surpassing the first film. Stand out performances from his partner Marion Cotillard, and mainstays such as Gilles Leleloche and Francois Cluzet.

A film about friendship, family and the strain that can be put on them by life changing. I feel lucky to have seen it.

... don't bother

Absolutely dreadful Great acting Appalling self-indulgent tale in which everything is so telegraphed that you guess the entire storyline within ten minutes; and yet it unfolds just so ... like you have seen your brakes fail and the car careen forward and you count all the trees ahead of you and hit each one one after the other ... This is from Guillaume Canet one of the best actors of his generation and the man who directed Tell No One (2006)"Ne le dis à personne" arguably a masterpiece What can one say? From the sublime to this? The characters are so dull and predictable you want to weep; like caricatures of caricatures ... At times it reminded me of a very poor remake of The Big Chill (1983) Friends meet and one of them is no longer and emotions run sky-high etc The actors here are some of the best of the last 15 years in French cinema and they act brilliantly but still ... don't bother

That was a great movie, I really don' t get the low ratings. Very well acted, great story, deep and funny at the same time. Much better than the first, you get the sense that these people do exist and everyone will find some characteristics to identify with. Great work! Go for it!

Over 2 hours of being disappointed, bad sequel to a very good 1st film
GDovW16 August 2020
Of course, watch it if you want ... but i hope this review will help to know a little what to expect.

Before watching this 2nd opus, i watched again "Les Petits Mouchoirs" so to remember the relation between the different characters. Then i watch "Little White Lies 2" ... what a disappointment. It almost hurts to see what is going on with these different people when you have seen how growing each of them were as the first movie was ending.

Francois Cluzet plays very well, his anxiety attacks are spot on and not as overacted as some may think (having been through depression myself, i related to what he was expressing: it gets very hard to manage one's emotions) Gilles Lellouche seems to be the only one who has truly grown ... to a point (so disrespectful towards his baby girl and the nanny) ... and Marion Cotillard ........... oh my .... who took the decision to make her fragile but evolving Marie from the first opus to that brainless, crude-mannered, selfish brat??!! - Not only her character is distasteful and not credible at all as Marie, but Marion over does it.

I could go on with everything that makes this second movie a bad sequel: almost each scene portrays wrong choices and bad actions, it is depressing, and it goes for over 2h; some scenes are useless; many are not credible = not fitting the nature of the group of friends we have followed in the first movie ... the list goes on.

What bothers me the most is that all of them behave with so much irresponsibility and stupidity. For example: ordering the kids to go to bed, but being extremely noisy and drunk until late at night; seducing the very young partners who were present for ... their kids; they all seem to have given up on parenting; drinking and smoking to no limit {almost EACH scene} ; "friends" who can't help putting down their friends ... the list goes on ...............

A very disappointing movie with some good actors that made this movie more than 2 very long hours of disappointments.

Really very French comedy that makes you entertain and also think. The film is really very complete as it blends comedy well with the various dramatic or deeply uncomfortable parts. The protagonist's character is really well characterized and manages to hold the whole weight of the film on his shoulders without ever getting tired or going into the background. As a plot it is also quite complex because it is built as a large set of vicissitudes merged into a large strand that makes all the participants secondary protagonists in a very good and cohesive way. I dare say that as a comedy it is really very good and you can easily watch it without having to necessarily have watched the first film.

Better than the first one

Really liked the sequel, interesting plot and stories, humour, some laughs and some tears too.

It's rare that the sequel is better than the original. Not sure why the relatively low rating.

Another Winning Carnet Movie
leannemck-0099631 July 2020
First, engage your mind and then your heart to gain maximum enJoyment from this sequel to Little White Lies and make sure you watch the latter first. Cluzet pulled off a remarkable performance as the troubled Max. The medically minded will know that the realism of his anxiety was incredibly authentic. Cotillard amazed us with her portrayal of troubled Marie while Lellouche, Magimal, and Baert's expert superficial transformations but underlying fragility reflect The superb acting we've come to expect. This emotional, humorous film enables the brilliant cast to explore their characters' vulnerability and resurrect their essence through much shared pain. A brilliant film, but not for the shallow who expect their entertainment presented on a silver platter-Hollywood style.

a perfect escape movie
mjfhhh17 April 2020
Max has a sixtieth birthday coming up. The problem is he is broke, divorced and depressed. When a group of his best friends show up at his doorstep to help him celebrate, he reluctantly agrees to spend a few days with them, but won't explain what's going on in his personal life. When ones darkest moments come, will friendship conquer all?

Seven years after the breakout success of the film Little White Lies (Les Petits Mouchoirs) comes the long anticipated sequel and it is worth the wait. The success of WE'LL END UP TOGETHER is not in its rather predictable plot, but the chemistry on screen, the characters that we recognise ourselves and our friends in, and the amazing warm atmosphere that makes one believe there's no problem a good dinner with friends won't sort out.

Written and directed by much loved French actor and director Guillaume Canet this movie feels like a welcome return home to those who have seen the original and will also welcome new viewership - the film can be enjoyed on its own. Welcoming French acting royalty at the peak of their career WE'LL END UP TOGETHER is a perfect escape movie and can be enjoyed again and again.
