"The killer... is one of us!" Republic Pictures has revealed a trailer for a murder mystery comedy called Reunion, from director Chris Nelson. This one is set for a direct-to-vod release in June this summer. After a murder at a high school reunion party, the remaining guests are trapped in a snowbound mansion, not knowing who to trust. They race to uncover which one of their old classmates is the killer before they're all iced out for good. Starring Lil Rel Howery, Billy Magnussen, Jillian Bell, Jamie Chung, Michael Hitchcock, Nina Dobrev, Chace Crawford. This just a movie version of that streaming series The Afterparty, which is already on Season 2. Looks extra cheap, and cheesy, and definitely something to skip over on the VOD options when choosing what to watch. // Continue Reading ›...

A simple Google search of "the best rom-coms of all time" will take you down a nostalgic hole of '90s and early-'00s movies like "10 Things I Hate About You," "While You Were Sleeping," and "P.S. I Love You." These classics, among many others, have shaped how we view love on screen. But through these films, we've learned what love looks like through white protagonists; many Bipoc communities have failed to see themselves reflected. While we saw Latine actresses like Salma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez, and Christina Milian make their mark early on in romantic comedy movies, for years the entertainment industry has undervalued and underrepresented Latine communities on screen and behind the camera.
Camila Mendes is shifting that narrative. You likely recognize her from rom-coms like "Palm Springs," "The Perfect Date," and "The New Romantic" - and she's starring in and serving as an an executive producer for the new rom-com film "Música,...

“When I first heard about this project, and then watched the film, I saw the potential for feel-good comedy,” said producer Radosław Grabik.

Claws-out high school drama has inspired some pretty memorable movies. Youthful touchstones like Heathers, Cruel Intentions, and Mean Girls take the intensity of hormones and the cruelty of high school students, and mix them with snappy, era-appropriate dialogue and up-and-coming stars. It’s a potent cocktail that when mixed just right yields delicious results. Netflix is looking to follow that template with their new high school revenge comedy Do Revenge, directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the co-writer of Thor: Love and Thunder who previously helmed Netflix’s Someone Great and created MTV’s Sweet/Vicious.
Will Do Revenge become the 2020s defacto teens-behaving-badly comedy? Only time will tell, but Do Revenge’s cast is enticing enough to suggest that the alchemy may be right for another mean girl magnum opus. Not sure where you’ve seen some of these fresh-faced stars before? Read below to find out.

When the subject of homegrown Kentucky production companies comes up these days, the first name out of anyone’s mouth is Wrigley Media Group, which is transforming an abandoned multiplex in the city of Lexington into a full-service state-of-the-art art 52,000-sq.-ft. studio complex, dubbed Wrigley Woodhill Studios.
Currently, it has a single soundstage, which is hosting the second season of the group’s nationally syndicated courtroom reality show “Relative Justice,” starring Judge Rhonda Wills. But when the second phase of the renovation is finished in early 2023, it will be the largest studio facility in Kentucky, with room to host outside productions drawn to the commonwealth by its revived film and TV incentive, featuring a 30-35 refundable tax credit.
“We developed ‘Relative Justice’ and sold it into most of the country, and then we had to make it,” says Ross Babbit, Wrigley Media’s executive producer and chief content officer.

When the Kentucky legislature made the commonwealth’s 30-35 film and TV tax credit nonrefundable in 2018, it cast a pall over the careers of local industry pros including Louisville native Emily Blevins, who had racked up credits as a production manager or producer on a dozen Lifetime movies shot in the Bluegrass state.
Although 428 million in credits had been approved under the old version of the incentive, which paid cash to productions for any credits they earned that were not eaten up by their tax bill, there was no guarantee the projects that had applied for the credits would actually shoot in Kentucky. And once those approved projects were completed, the jobs would be gone, because Kentucky would no longer be able to compete against production hotbeds with stronger incentives such as Georgia, its neighbor to the south.
“We were going to have to move or change our careers,” says Blevins.

Zack Snyder’s zombie epic “Army of the Dead” is off to a strong start on Netflix, as the streamer reports (via Deadline) that the movie is expected to be viewed by 72 million households over its first four weeks of release. That number puts “Army of the Dead” in the number 10 spot on the list of biggest Netflix original openings. “Army of the Dead” opened to the same household views as George Clooney’s “The Midnight Sky,” which launched over the Christmas holiday last year. It’s important to note that Netflix recognizes a “view” as any subscriber who watched two minutes of the movie’s runtime.
The strong opening for “Army of the Dead” is good news for Snyder, who intends to launch a new franchise for the streamer with his Dave Bautista-starring action movie. Two “Army”-connected films are already in development at Netflix, one is an...

Deadline first reported the news, which also revealed the actor would have a producing credit on the series.
The eight-episode show comes from Entertainment One, Doug Liman's Hypnotic and creator, and showrunner Alexi Hawley (The Rookie).
The project is currently untitled, and centers on a young lawyer at the CIA (Centineo) who gets entangled in dangerous international power plays when a former agency asset threatens to expose her relationship with the CIA — unless they help clear her name in a serious crime.
It's an interesting hook, and one that should be a big hit with the Netflix audience.
If the streamer has taught us anything, it's that it can keep viewers engaged for every single beat of its roster of drama series.

Its sizable subscriber gains in recent quarters tilt the list (see it below) toward movies released recently. The company has also recently adjusted its metric for what counts as a view, now counting any subscriber who watches any programming for at least two minutes as an official viewer.
Bird Box is No. 2 on the list, which was first reported by Bloomberg, with 89 million viewers. The No. 3 and No. 4 titles, respectively, are Peter Berg-directed Spenser Confidential, starring Mark Wahlberg, and Michael Bay’s 6 Underground, whose cast was headed by Ryan Reynolds.

Netflix has unveiled a top 10 list of its most viewed films in their first four weeks of release that includes recent star-studded action films like “Extraction,” “Bird Box,” “Spenser Confidential” and “6 Underground” topping the list.
Netflix tends to only release selective viewership data and is highly secretive beyond that, but Bloomberg acquired a list of the 10 most popular films as part of a larger feature on action films.
“Extraction” starring Chris Hemsworth and produced by the Russo Brothers topped the list and earned 99 million viewers in its first four weeks of release when it debuted this summer. “Bird Box,” the horror thriller starring Sandra Bullock and released late in 2018, received 89 million viewers in the same time frame.

Netflix typically keeps its viewing figures close to its chest, but every now and then they release some stats. This week, for example, the streaming giant unveiled some numbers that users will find interesting, as they announced their top 10 most popular original movies of all time. Along with the titles, Netflix also revealed how many times each film was watched within its first four weeks of being made available to stream.
A few of them aren’t surprising to see on this list, as they were clearly hits with fans and critics and made a big impact on social media. Others, though, didn’t get talked about nearly as much and yet still made it into the top 10.
Before we get into analyzing it, though, check out the list for yourself below:
Extraction – 99 million Bird Box – 89 million Spenser Confidential – 85 million 6 Underground – 83 million Murder Mystery – 73 million The Irishman – 64 million Triple Frontier...

Netflix is notoriously secretive about how many people watch the movies and television shows it spends so lavishly to produce.
The streaming giant did offer a little more clarity on the popularity of some of its original films, revealing to Bloomberg that “Extraction,” a Chris Hemsworth action flick, “Bird Box,” a dystopian thriller with Sandra Bullock navigating a bleak hell-scape that may not be a so-distant future, and “Spenser Confidential,” a machismo-fueled murder mystery that reunites Mark Wahlberg with “Lone Survivor” Peter Berg, were among its three most-watched debuts.
“Extraction” attracted 99 million views in its first four weeks of release, “Birdbox” was seen by 89 million, and “Spenser Confidential” was streamed by 85 million subscribers. It’s unclear how many of these viewers stuck around for the final credits, as Netflix registers anyone who watched two minutes or more of a movie as a viewer. Unsurprisingly, Netflix is working on follow-ups to both “Extraction” and “Birdbox.

Netflix pulled back the curtain on its biggest original films this week by unveiling an official list of its 10 most watched original movies (via Bloomberg), which includes films directed by Michael Bay and Martin Scorsese. Netflix data should always be taken with a grain of salt as the streaming giant records a viewer as any subscriber that watched two minutes of a movie. While it’s unclear how many viewers watched these films in their entirety, the list does highlight the Netflix originals that generated the most interest among subscribers.
Topping the list is “Extraction,” the Sam Hargrave-directed action thriller starring Chris Hemsworth that debuted in April. The film earned 99 million Netflix “views” over its first four weeks, which is 11 million more than the second most-watched Netflix original “Bird Box,” the Sandra Bullock-starring thriller that became an internet sensation during the 2018 Christmas holiday. “Bird Box” netted 89 million views over its first four weeks.
