Gorgeous in Every Way but Lacking in Certain Crucial Areas
fake_moviestar4 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
100 Days My Prince has to be one of the most beautifully shot KDramas I have ever seen - the cinematography, costuming, and soundtrack combined to make a visually gorgeous experience. The pacing and story were very well done, and the acting was very good as well. This show reminded me a lot of The Emperor: Owner of the Mask, but it was superior in almost every way, particularly in the pacing and script areas. I liked that the story line felt real, there was no weird, fantastical plot lines or surprise non-nonsensical abductions. The political and societal plot points made sense and felt realistic.

However there were a few things I really disliked in this show - first off I didn't like the commanding tone towards the female characters; and I get it, back then men very much ruled over women. But the way even our ML talked to the FL left a bad taste in my mouth that I don't feel any other historical drama has made me feel before.

Second, I really, REALLY hated the last episode. It felt so drawn out and it was so dumb how the FL just kept stubbornly refusing to be with the Crown Prince until literally the very last second. It was unnecessary and irritating to watch, especially after watching 15 episodes where they clearly have fallen in love and no obstacles remained between them. Also what happened to that weird prophecy? They hinted at it a few times, but the ominous part of holding a bloody sword at the FL never happened. In this way, The Emperor: Owner of the Mask was superior as the ended was amazing and felt deserved and worthwhile.

So would I recommend this show? For the visual experience it was a treat, and the soundtrack really elevated this show to having serious "it's a 10" potential. But the ending felt so annoying and flat that I'm not sure it even deserves a 7, and I don't know if it's really worth it. This was clearly a historical romance, but the ending sort of destroyed the romantic momentum that had been building the whole series.

My First KDrama
ardiyhanggara10 December 2020
Okay, first thing first i've never watch KDrama before. Never ever cross in my mind. But one day, i accidently watch the first episode of this drama on tv and then start to follow every single episode because of the story. Let's just say i am curious. And it's definitely worth it after i finish all the episode, and lemme say that this is one of the best thing i've ever watch. But, to be honest i expect more from the last episode. Yep, the ending should be better.

Korean Love Story when there were kings
KdramaInStudio28 January 2021
This was a first of its kind for me and I liked it a lot. I liked the love story between the prince and his childhood friend. I don't know much about the history of this time but there was a lot of sword fighting between regimes. A lot of backstabbing. And, a lot of modern day drama applicable then. There was a lot of servitude. The movie depicted life then and that was informative. The characters were very well appointed.

D.O. Need I say more?!
esthercolon-5380418 September 2020
D.O. was perfectly cast as the Crown Prince with amnesia! His natural faraway gaze gave his character the lost look of someone struggling to remember who he is. He played his character stoically and credibly. I loved him in this series! I rated it a 9 only because there were a few "holes" in the story that were never filled or explained, but D.O.'s portrayal rates a 10!!!

Great Show!
mpmunoz-629909 December 2020
This tv series is in my top 5 best shows! I love love loved it. I watched all 16 episodes in 2 days. I have to commend Lee Jong-Jae for his directing skills, he did an outstanding job. The cast was amazing, especially Jo Sung-ha, Kyung-soo Do and Nam Ji-Hyundai. I was sad to see it end; I guess I'll just have to see it again.

a very powerful and mystical love story
aminifatimaaa15 April 2019
100 Days My Prince is a drama with grace and eloquence, much attributed to the flawless script. A lighthearted romcom, but it is mixed in with an ill-fated love story, and classic political scheming without becoming too heavy handed or overly complicated. The performances were amazing, Do Kyungsoo's indifferent expression and intense stare play wonder in portraying the emptiness of the lonely prince was heartbreaking. A very enjoyable drama with many plot twists.

Nose dive
AJ_McAninch25 December 2020
Two-thirds of this drama is charming, lovable, and often funny. When it is tragic, it is also touching. The cast is wonderful and worked hard. Many supporting actors are as good as the leads-often true in the best KDramas-and two 2nd ML held their own with DO. It was all good, and I had a great time. Then the writer seemed to lose her way or interest in the story. She wastes time with nonsense side plots, tedium, and silliness with the main characters, and the opportunity to close a great love story with the joy it deserved. Even the adorable leads seemed to lose their way and the chemistry they had in the rest of the drama. Then the writer simply hastily ended, but I didn't care because the story's energy was sucked out of it. I still enjoyed most of it, just disappointed in the flat closure.

A little like Cinderella but with a whole lot more intrigue and depth
leahcubed30 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
9/10 is my rating. This is a 2018 historical romance with 16 (+2) 67-85 minute episodes. Alternate titles are 100 Days My Husband and The 100 Day Husband.

As the nephew of the king, Lee Yul (Do Kyung-soo) is told to keep a low profile and not do anything, such as excel in learning, that would make the king feel threatened. So, instead of studying he spends his days playing and unintentionally bullies the other kids. When Yoon Yi-seo/Yeon Hong-shim (Nam Ji-Hyun) notices Yul's behavior, as a fellow noble, she scolds Yul for using his authority to make the other children do as he wishes. Yi-seo also teases Yul for his lack of knowledge. Yul has an immediate crush on the pretty and spunky Yi-seo and starts studying to impress her. Before the children can become closer friends, Yul's ambitious father participates in overthrowing the royal family and killing them and all their supporters, including Yi-seo's father who was a right hand man of the king. The intent was to kill the entire family but Yi-seo's brother helps her escape. is the King's nephew who enjoys spending his days playing instead of studying.

10 years later Yul is a cold, distant crown Prince who is reluctantly married to Crown Princess, Kim So-hye (Han So-hee). The marriage was a condition of Vice-premier Kim Cha-eon (Jo Sung-ha) who carried out the overthrow of the former king which allowed Yul's father to ascend to the throne. There is a lot of pressure on Yul to consummate the marriage with the Crown Princess and the current claim is he must to end the drought. His response is all unmarried people in the kingdom should become married instead. The punishment for not following the royal decree is flogging. Before Hong-shim can be punished for resisting marriage, an assassination attempt leaves Yul with memory loss and he is saved by Hong-shim's adoptive father. To keep aging-shim from being flogged, her adoptive father hides Yul's identity and tells the two they are affianced. Will this pretend relationship become real love?

*spoiler alert. I really liked the premise that he loses his memory and lives as a commoner. I like the backstory with the evil left chancellor and the fact that Hong-shim was also nobility that had to live as a peasant. I liked how his character develop from a cold noble to a person that wanted to be a contributor. I thought their relationship was really cute and believable and I loved her adopted father. The timing of when he discovered who he really was worked well. The only part that I found a bit disappointing was toward the end when Yi-seo was like we can't be together because of what my brother did. I did not think that was a good reason for them not to be together and I felt like she was more using it as an excuse because she was intimidated by the fact that he was the crown prince. To me it made it as if she dId not love him enough to overcome that which conflicted with the relationship they had as commoners in the village. I also thought he should've insisted they be together more and reassured her when she was stubbornly insisting they would not work because of past events. I wished Yi-seo's brother would have lived and fought with the prince to redeem himself. What he did was wrong but I did not feel there was any way he could've helped it. I was really happy that the king did not kill the crown princess. That was consistent with his character. The part where they finally got back together felt rushed after all they had overcome to be able to be together. I would've liked to have seen them together and maybe the wedding with the king there. Despite the small drawbacks it is overall a very entertaining and heartwarming story. I highly recommend it for romance, light humor, and historical components.

Enjoyable
tncuon23 February 2021
An entertaining series with lots of funny moments. The plot is a bit depressing at time & I don't know about the accuracy of the historical aspects, but parts seem a bit far-fetched, with elements of modern twists.

A solid 8 out of 10 stars for entertainment factor of the series. The leads worked well together & are endearing, while the supporting cast were great. The costumes & sets looked good. 2 stars off for the sometimes drawn out political conversations & the silliness.

It's not a very long series, taking around 16.5 hours to complete, which is a plus as the plot moves along with a good pace.

Recommended for those who like period dramas & romantic comedies. An enjoyable show overall.

Good Enough
PennyReviews31 October 2018
As a valid fan of the actor Kyungsoo, I had to watch his first period drama. And, even though he didn't disappoint neither in his romantic scenes, nor in the action scenes, the story had some major plot holes that were never properly explained. The story, as it is, was interesting, as the main idea behind it was kind of original and well executed. However, the drama was kind of boring at some points. The performances, moreover, were really good from all the actors and actresses and the soundtrack was phenomenal. So, 7 out of 10.

Cute Love Story...but skip the rest.
divemabini16 March 2023
A solid romance. Though, I have to say, towards the end it gets a bit tedious. The whole, "I bring so much baggage with me", "You'll be unhappy with me", "I've hurt you too much", garbage that gets repeated over and over is tough to swallow. For once, I'd like to see an obvious and satisfying ending to a K historical romance. Instead, we get an epilogue that drags and drags and doesn't give you what you want until literally the last 5 seconds of the show. But the ride was cute getting there, at least at first.

As for the rest of the show, if this isn't your first K Historical Drama/Romance, you can safely wear out your fast forward button, and skip any scenes that the two leads aren't in.

Why? Because, simply, there's nothing new to see. To summarize (every historical piece):

1. Conniving and manipulative queens and princesses? Check.

2. Corrupt and spiteful Ministers? Check.

3. An evil State Counsellor or Premier behind everything? Check.

4. Bad guys that can spy, kill, and spread rumors with impunity? Check 5. Inept good guys who can't spy, never think they're in danger, and wander around aimlessly as puppets for almost the entire show? Check 6. Good guys who let the bad guys kill, kill again, kill some more, kill loved ones, kill more loved ones, simply because they're too caught up in their own fancy revenge plots ("He must die painfully over a long long life" Bleh!) to save the people around them? Check.

7. Inept guards that let royals sneak out and about whenever they want, simply by changing clothes, yet stick to them like glue when they don't have anywhere to go? Check.

I could go on. This one has ALL the standard tropes that make some of these shows painful to watch.

Which is why god created the fast-forward button! Try it. You won't miss anything.

Surprisingly good!
shareen_shany17 February 2022
This is the first drama I watch in the Joseon time. It'd actually quite good despite the everyday events of continuous betrayal from one side and the other. The betrayal stabbing & lies are detestable! Can't fathom the thought that people can be so evil!

This drama is not only about love or forbidden love but also friendship. If you like Joseon time, this is to watch. Beautiful leading leads & fantastic supporting casts!

Sweet and charming
purpleaddict-3781527 February 2021
I got hooked with K Drama just this year and this is one of my favorites so far. Actually I watched this because of Kim Seon-ho which I came to know from Start Up ;)

I love the simplicity of this series, not so fancy props or music and the acting was not exaggerated. I found myself smiling more than I should because of the sweetness of the lead actors. The actors in the village were great as well. The last 20 mins of Ep 16 was so cute and funny. I just wished there was more to the ending. I found it still to be enjoyable.

There are some good moments
mr_christophe_r22 December 2020
The costumes and settings are gorgeous, the soundtrack has some memorable tunes. The story has however some significant plot holes with some very naive dialogues. There are some touching moments but also some very cringey ones. The last few episodes are difficult to watch because they are convoluted and barely make sense anymore. The acting was alright, although quite exaggerated. The lead actor did well though and the episodes in the middle of the series were pleasant with some very cute moments between the love couple. Worth a watch!

Uneven but enjoyable
phillipjbrown25 February 2021
I did enjoy this series but the tone is uneven as if it cab't make up its mind what sort of show to be.Nam Ji-Hyun is really good as usual but Kyung-soo Do is simply unlikeable and impossible to warm too. There are some good subtle touches in the writing and direction and then great plot holes. Some of the acting is pretty bad (the King and Queen in particular) but someof the mono characters are really good.

Personally I enjoyed the detail in the village scenes to he rather boring court intriges. The romance between the two main leads was never convincing and I was rooting for the other character to win her over.

Worth watching but not a re watch

Almost ....
wheatley-2023023 November 2021
... yet another great K drama, but despite not attaining that standard it is still worth a watch.

The comic potential of the plot yielded some good laughs in mid-series. Plus the manifold barriers to the central romance created some emotional impetus. But just as I was beginning to think this was another Korean gem the implausibilities began to mount. Of course, the best dramas propel the audience through plot contrivances, sometimes so that you don't even notice them.

However, the final episodes add one huge implausibility too far, in an attempt to set the scene for a romantic crescendo at the end. But, for me at least, the impact was the opposite of that intended.

Sorry to be so ambiguous here, but I don't want to give the plot away.

alaningle723 December 2020
A crown Prince with amnesia ends up marrying his childhood sweetheart without either of them realising their links. An entertaining story of the power struggles in the palace and many amusing moments when he spends time as a commoner in a small village. Well acted and touching romance but with their pasts will it end happily ?

Hop Away 🐰 The Good 🥕🥕 Are Elsewhere °AVG° °5.5°
50fiftillidideeBrain8 October 2021
Have you seen the adorable movie Overboard with Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell?

At first it seems 💯DMP is winking at that film. Unfortunately, this Overboard gets shipwrecked in the Joseon era.

💯DMP starts strong: beautiful opening shots, great concept, and fantastic 🎭acting. (Really! At times the king seems Shakespearean, until the awful dialogue & plot catch up to him). It's a fun set-up, but at the same time, there's hope for something meaningful. The sets, filming, & costumes are VG ~ or better. The many truly delightful moments in the show didn't manage to tip my scales into the positive zone. In fairness, that's unique to each individual. There's certainly much to 💘 about 💯DMP.

Watchers see 💯DMP start with a literal drought and then the rains come. Tragically, in the end we learn that the show which began by figuratively raining fantastic 🎨elements on its audience, later subjects its viewers to a drought of artistry that extends until the credits have dissipated ⬛

The first tip-off is those cute but ill-placed 🐰 graphics at the end of every episode. Seriously〰 well, hmm➰ I suppose it's a comedy, then. But... Wait〰 it really seems like a drama that has some scattered amusing moments. On the other hand, if it's serious, why the easter cartoons? I started getting thrown off by bunnies hopping in my head. Dang it all, I want to chill, not learn about susceptibilities I never knew I had! 😓

The creators get a pass on this next marker of irritation's forward creep: The dialogue. Transcribers~}> 💘 em. 💗So thankful for what they do for us lesser 'mono-linguals'. One teensy request: Keep the casual, current-day slang out of the historical dramas. No viewer of a Joseon era 📽 wants to read: ↘He was hitting on her⤵ I've got the munchies⬇ Etc 〰⏬ It prickles!

I was riding along with it, though. This is the first couple episodes: ▪This is GOOD✨,,, Maybe an 8. Next -> ▪Ewww, don't understand that,, hmph➡ gonna hold at 7 & managed to hold there for a long🕚. Next ↪ ▪Ah. Hmm. A tad disappointed with ▶that. Around E12 the freefall began; ▪6... Uckitky,, Yikes! ▶That's virtually unforgivable◀ ▪The last episodes (14-16) brought the final✔answer. It sincerely saddens the 💙.

💯DMPs feel is that writers were struggling to come up with ongoing plot points to keep the show running, so it ended up feeling like a soap opera. The various trails our protags ramble down are lined with "filler weeds"; There's more than a whiff of: "We don't have enough "good stuff" to fill 16 episodes, so let's toss a bunch of rotten carp & weeds in. They'll likely digest it in silence, the lowborns".

I've since read that many writers might be overworked to a point past exhaustion. What they did to this show provides circumstantial evidence of that. Kdrama fans know there's quite a few shows that are excellent and awful at the same time. I actually hope the situation is: 1st draft, now Tequila!🎉 & not that the writers are practically enslaved. Regardless, it's not working well

In light-hearted, good cheer, we'll say there's some treasonous 🕜✖🕦.

Next, MSS makes a showing.

MSS. The most dreaded Mandatory Separation Syndrome. MSS is a weary, over used Kdrama device in which couples, once they get together, must immediately separate: 'I love you! Finally, we're together! Now I'll catch you later❕💨

...🐇...

Huh?

Rarely augmenting the feature, it's a good thing a generous 15% of the 🕛. It's disastrous here, being part of the ↘Unbroken⤵

downward〰〽H🕡❕

At the end of the show🏂

The final twist of the sword is the way our duo finally pairs up. It's anti-climatic and, well, terribly boring.

Mr. Queen (rated almost a deserving "9" on IMDB) is a campy Joseon tale. My Sassy Girl is on NF currently. What MSG does, 💯DMP fell short of accomplishing: MSG is an engaging, campy, Joseon era love story that is lighthearted at times, but at others is serious. It's ⚡exciting⚡ at times too. Great court intrigues, storyline, 🎭 & directing all make the trip back in time, as well, Any appreciation you feel for 💯DMP could likely be extended to MSG, which was very popular in 🇰🇷. Two years later, 💯DMP seems to be building off of MSG's success. Joo Won is the male lead. He's✨fantastic. Direct comparisons like this are usually bad form; it's all to say that if you like 💯DMP, you're bound to, at a minimum, appreciate MSG.

💯DMP is a sham prince. He looks, acts & talks perfectly. In turning, he reveals his backside. It's naked. Nothing there. ✔off the truly great Kdramas first. There are so many that you won't need to circle back to 💯DMP. Not for a million days.
