What we have here is the 5-minute music video for the song Joanne by Lady Gaga from 2018, the piano version and well what can I say about this one. First of all, this is a prime example of a work where too many cooks are spoiling the broth really as this has no less than 3 directors credited despite the minimal running time including the mysterious "Haus of Gaga" once again. So yeah with the beginning you read immediately what this is about, namely the death of Lady Gaga's aunt at a pretty young age when Gaga's father was a teenager still and Gaga of course not yet born. To me, it feels like fake completely. If this was really such a huge tragic loss for Miss Germanotta, then there is no way she would have waited a decade or how long is she famous now to make this tribute to her aunt. The only thing this one here proves is that Gaga is very weak when it comes to ballads. The repetitive "Where do you think you're going" is pretty embarrassing as are the constant outfit changes by Gaga channeling her inner hippie on one occasion I suppose. It is all style, zero substance and that is a very negative deal-breaker for a tribute that supposedly has so much depth. I am not surprised that it did not reach massive charts success, but I am sure Gaga justifies that by the fact that it is not important because it is such a personal and important project for her. Oh my. After all she also named her tour after her aunt. Is it a tragic story? Yes absolutely, but that does not justify whatsoever what Gaga does with the music video and song here. I am also still undecided if I liked the idea that she used her own sister here to create a fairly shallow (no pun intended) parallel. Nah it is not working out. Not at all and the trained eye will see through the charade that this one is. Skip both the watch and listen. Highly not recommended. XO XO
