Quotes

  • Tree Gelbman : [to Ryan]  Now you're stuck in this day. Congrats. Oh, and by the way? You're going to die. Again... and again... and again.

Ryan Phan : [cringes]  Carter, tell your girlfriend to stop trying to scare me.

Carter Davis : Oh, she's not my girlfriend.

[Tree gives Carter an offended look]

Carter Davis : Well, wait, are you my girlfriend?

[Tree remembers that from Carter's perspective, they know each other only for one day]

    Tree Gelbman : Kinda.

  • Ryan Phan : Will someone please explain what the hell is going on?

Tree Gelbman : [sighs]  Okay. Recap: so, I was stuck reliving the same day, Monday the 18th, over and over and over again until someone wearing a Bayfield Baby mask murdered me on the night of my birthday. I had no idea who it was because I was such a crazy bitch, and so many people hated my guts. So, at Carter's suggestion, I made a list of suspects. Turns out it was my roommate, Lori, who kept on helping a serial killer escape from the hospital, hoping it would look like he murdered me when, in fact, it was her all along, and all because she was jealous of an affair I was having with my college professor, Gregory, who was married. Yeah, I know. Pretty shitty. But, anyways, I finally kicked Lori's crazy ass out a window and killed her, which broke the loop, or so I thought. But now it only looks like it passed the loop on to you, and you're gonna be stuck reliving this day until we figure out how to stop it.

Ryan Phan : [sighs]  Of course. I'm still dreaming.

    [Tree winces]

    Carter Davis : Wait, what?

    Ryan Phan : It's like "Inception". It's a dream within a dream.

[Ryan lies on the bed, closes his eyes]

Carter Davis : Bro, you're not dreaming. Ryan, we...

Ryan Phan : Shhh... I'm trying to wake myself up.

[Tree shakes her head. Carter approaches the bed and slaps on Ryan's crotch. Ryan cries in pain and jumps from the bed]

Carter Davis : There. See? You're not dreaming.

Ryan Phan : [annoyed]  Why did you hit my penis?

Carter Davis : Why are you acting like this?

Ryan Phan : You smacked my dick. That's rude.

Carter Davis : I barely touched you.

  • Danielle Bouseman : I'm auditioning for this year's production of "The Miracle Worker". Did you know Anne Frank was blind and deaf?

Carter Davis : Uh... Helen Keller?

    Danielle Bouseman : Excuse me?

Carter Davis : Anne Frank was in the attic.

Danielle Bouseman : [shrugs]  Oh! Whatever.

  • Samar Ghosh : Check this out, guys.

[Samar points at the faculty map]

Samar Ghosh : Dean Bronson spends every evening knitting in the faculty lounge over here.

Carter Davis : Wait, what? he knits?

Samar Ghosh : I think he used to smoke, and then his wife made him quit, and, uh... oh, by the way, shocking hot.

  • [Tree awakes, at the same point she kept waking up in the previous film. She is unaware yet that she is an another dimension]

Tree Gelbman : [enraged]  No fucking way!

[Carter is confused. Tree stands and heads for the door]

Carter Davis : Hey, I-I folded your clothes for you.

[furious, Tree does not wait till Ryan will enter and ask Carter the same question like every day. She opens the door and steps outside to the hallway]

Tree Gelbman : Ryan! Get in here right now!

[Tree re-enters the room. Ryan appears at the door, terrified in view of Tree's anger]

Carter Davis : Wait a minute, you two know each other?

    Tree Gelbman : Yes!

    Ryan Phan : No...

Tree Gelbman : [glares at Ryan]  Ryan, you dumbass! You sent me back.

    Ryan Phan : [confused]  What?

Tree Gelbman : It's Monday the 18th. I don't believe this. I just got out. How could you do this to me?

Ryan Phan : [to Carter]  Uh... who's this crazy white girl?

Carter Davis : Maybe it was a-a bad dream or something.

Tree Gelbman : [getting dressed]  You're right. It is a bad dream. It's a nightmare! This sucks! It sucks the biggest mega balls in the history of shitty ball-suckery!

[Tree takes a pillow, thrusts her face into it and yells until she calms down]

Tree Gelbman : [quietly]  Ha... I'm okay.

Carter Davis : Are you sure?

Tree Gelbman : Yes. He just needs to fix this. Now.

Ryan Phan : This is a joke, right?

Tree Gelbman : [chuckles, then glares at Ryan]  This is a joke, right?

    Tree Gelbman : I wish.

[Tree approaches Ryan, grabs his collar and pushes him against the door]

Tree Gelbman : Ryan, we need to go to your lab, turn on Sissy, and figure out how to send me back!

Ryan Phan : [puzzled]  Uh, how do you know about Sissy?

Tree Gelbman : Oh, my God. Just... let's go.

[Tree starts walking away. Ryan and Carter stare at each other, totally confused]

    Tree Gelbman : Ándale, people!

[Ryan and Carter follow Tree. They encounter the same people Tree used to see each time she woke up in the previous film. Much to everyone's confusion, Tree yells at all the people]

  • [Tree holds Gregory at gunpoint. Sirens are heard from distance]

Tree Gelbman : [smiles]  You hear that? You're gonna rot in prison.

Gregory Butler : [narrows his eyes]  I don't think so. You see, there's one little detail you failed to realize in all this.

Tree Gelbman : Oh, really? What's that?

[Stephanie appears behind Tree and Lori, armed with a gun]

    Stephanie Butler : Me.

[Lori turns back and shrieks in horror. Stephanie shoots at her in the stomach. Lori collapses, injured]

    Tree Gelbman : Lori!

Stephanie Butler : You really think I was gonna let a little whore like that ruin my life?

[Tree and Stephanie point their guns at each other. Gregory charges at Tree, tackling her down. The gun is knocked from Tree's hands, and Stephanie picks it. Gregory wraps his fingers around Tree's throat]

Stephanie Butler : Gregory, kill her!

[Tree punches Gregory. She nearly manages to get free, but Gregory grabs her hair and slams her head against the floor, then stands and steps away from her. Stephanie hands Gregory one of the guns]

Stephanie Butler : Would you like to do the honors?

Gregory Butler : Don't mind if I do.

[Gregory points the gun at Tree, who is lying helplessly on the floor, near the injured Lori. Suddenly Gregory turns to his wife]

Gregory Butler : Oh, wait. I almost forgot.

[Gregory shoots Stephanie. She collapses, dead]

    Gregory Butler : I want a divorce.

    [Gregory turns back to Tree]

Gregory Butler : Now, where were we?

    [suddenly Carter shows up]

    Carter Davis : Hey!

[Gregory shoots wildly at Carter's direction. Carter evades the shot. Tree seizes the opportunity and runs away. Gregory shoots after her, but misses. Tree enters the MRI room. She grabs a computer keyboard. When Gregory enters, Tree hits him with the keyboard, knocking the gun from his hand. Gregory grabs Tree and throws her through a window to the next room. Tree collapses painfully near a wheelchair, stunned and injured. Gregory picks the gun and approaches Tree. Tree pulls a screwdriver from her back pocket and waves it feebly at Gregory, who stands with his back to the MRI machine]

Gregory Butler : [laughs, amused]  Aw, look who brought a screwdriver to a gunfight...

[Tree notices the switch that turns on the MRI machine. Gregory cocks the gun]

Tree Gelbman : Wait! I have something I need to tell you.

    Gregory Butler : What?

    Tree Gelbman : You're screwed!

[Tree presses the switch, turning on the MRI machine. The wheelchair, pulled by the powerful magnet, is thrown against Gregory, slamming and pinning him to the MRI machine. The gun is his hand is also pinned to the machine]

Gregory Butler : [screams painfully]  Turn it off, you bitch!

[Tree points the screwdriver to Gregory's chest. Realizing what she is going to do, Gregory is filled with fear]

Gregory Butler : No. No, no, no, no, no, no, wait. Wait!

[Tree lets go of the screwdriver. The tool, drawn by the magnet, flies forward and gets buried in Gregory's chest. He gasps and dies. Tree shuts the power off. The murderer and the wheelchair drop to the floor. Tree slumps on the floor, sighs with relief; the nightmare has finally over]

  • [after killing Gregory, Tree hurries back to check on Lori. Lori pants heavily, pressing her palm on the wound. Carter helps her stand and supports her]

Carter Davis : Ready? Come on. There you go. I got you. I got you. All right. Yep.

Tree Gelbman : [arrives]  Oh, my God. Are you okay?

Lori Spengler : [smiles painfully]  I guess this is a pretty good place to get shot, huh?

[two nurses arrive with a stretcher]

Carter Davis : I'll lift you up now, all right?

[Carter lifts Lori and carefully places her on the stretcher]

Tree Gelbman : You're gonna be okay.

    Carter Davis : You're good. It's okay, it's okay. You're okay.

[Tree recalls that in the original dimension, she had to kill Lori in self-defence. The thought saddens her]

Tree Gelbman : Lori, I... I'm so sorry.

Lori Spengler : [confused]  For what? You just saved my life.

Tree Gelbman : I just... I wish things could have been different.

New Nurse : I'm sorry, but we need to move her.

[the nurses take Lori away, leaving Tree and Carter alone]

New Nurse : [to Lori]  Hang in there, hon.

Carter Davis : [to Tree]  Hey.

    Tree Gelbman : Hey.

[Carter notices Tree's facial injuries. He touches her forehead]

Carter Davis : [worried]  You okay?

Tree Gelbman : Uh, yeah. Yeah, I'm fine. I... I thought I told you to stay put.

Carter Davis : [smiles]  Yeah, well... sorry, couldn't help myself.

[they chuckle. Suddenly the lights flicker. Tree understands that she is about to be sent back to the original dimension]

Tree Gelbman : I think it's time. I hope you realize I'm only going back for one reason.

[Carter bends to kiss Tree. At the lab, the guards finally manage to open the doors. Samar grabs a fire extinguisher and sprays Dean Bronson and the guards with CO2 powder, delaying them. Ryan looks at the computer screen: Sissy will operate within four seconds. Bronson tries to reach the wires, but Dre grabs his leg, slowing him down. One of the guards grabs Samar. As Bronson nearly reaches the wires, Sissy operates. At the hospital, Tree and Carter kiss. The next moment, Tree is transported back to the original dimension. She finds herself in the lab, near Carter, exactly as it was before she transported to the second dimension. Ryan, Samar, Dre and Bronson regain consciousness. No sign of Ryan #2]

    Samar Ghosh : Oh, man...

[Samar finds an empty bottle near him]

Samar Ghosh : [sighs]  My Yoo-hoo.

[stunned, Bronson removes his glasses and looks around. Tree and Carter regain consciousness. Tree is unsure whether she made it back to the original dimension]

Tree Gelbman : [to Carter]  Danielle?

    Carter Davis : [puzzled]  Who?

[Tree is relieved. She hugs Carter closely]

    Tree Gelbman : Hi.

Samar Ghosh : On, my god. I think I just shit my pants.

    [ending credits]

  • [at the lab, Ryan shows Tree and Carter the device that caused the time-loop in the first movie]

Ryan Phan : The Sisyphus Quantum Cooling Reactor. We call it "Sissy" for short. You see all these? They're proton lasers, and when they fire, they cool the centrifuge right here to almost below one nanokelvin. So, basically, we're trying to prove that time can be slowed down on a molecular level. It hasn't worked yet, but we did find some promising data, after the device fired the other night.

    Tree Gelbman : When?

Ryan Phan : 12:01 AM yesterday.

Tree Gelbman : [shakes her head]  Monday the 18th.

    Ryan Phan : [nods]  Mm-hmm.

[Tree gives Ryan a murderous look]

    Ryan Phan : What?

Tree Gelbman : You created the time-loop, dummy!

[Tree, Carter, Ryan, Samar and Dre sit at the cafe. Tree explains them what happened in the previous film]

Ryan Phan : That's impossible. That's not what Sissy was designed to do.

Tree Gelbman : I don't know what to tell you.

Samar Ghosh : Well, maybe we're just discovering what it actually does.

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : An unintended reaction. Maybe we thought we were slowing time, but what if we looped it instead?

Tree Gelbman : [to Ryan]  Now you're stuck in this day.

  • [the Bayfield Baby masked murderer attacks Ryan and draws a knife. Before he can stab Ryan, Tree sneaks behind and knocks him unconscious]

Carter Davis : Who is he?

Tree Gelbman : Only one way to find out.

[Tree approaches the murderer and removes the mask. She, Ryan and Carter gasp in disbelief: the murderer looks exactly like Ryan]

Ryan Phan : What the fu...

[they bring the second Ryan to the lab and tie him to a chair]

Carter Davis : You sure you... you don't have a twin brother? Maybe you were separated at birth.

Ryan Phan : [annoyed]  Of course I'm sure.

[Ryan touches slightly his replica's head. The second Ryan regains consciousness]

Ryan Phan #2 : [opens his eyes]  Oh, shit.

Ryan Phan : [firmly]  "Oh, shit" is right. Who are you?

Ryan Phan #2 : Who you think I am, dummy?

    Carter Davis : It's you.

Ryan Phan , Ryan Phan #2 : [together]  Duh...

  • [Tree, aware that she is stuck again in a time-loop but unaware that she is in a different dimension, enters her sorority house to confront Lori. As she climbs the stairs, she expects to hear Danielle calling her "You sneaky little bitch", as happened every day in the previous film, but it does not happen]

    Tree Gelbman : That's weird.

    Carter Davis : What?

Tree Gelbman : She was supposed to be here.

    Carter Davis : Who?

Tree Gelbman : Uh, never mind.

[Tree, Carter and Ryan enter the room Tree shares with Lori. Lori sits at the desk, writing in a notebook]

Lori Spengler : She finally rolls in...

Tree Gelbman : [sharply]  Where is it?

Lori Spengler : Where's what? Oh, hey, Carter.

    Carter Davis : Hey.

[Tree is confused that Lori and Carter know each other, but shrugs that off]

Tree Gelbman : Where's the cupcake?

    Lori Spengler : What cupcake?

Tree Gelbman : [sharply]  The one you made for my birthday. The one you poisoned!

[Lori has no idea what Tree is talking about]

Lori Spengler : [rolls her eyes humorously]  Oh, THAT cupcake.

[Lori stands and packs her bag]

    Tree Gelbman : I'm serious.

Lori Spengler : Look, I don't know what stupid joke Danielle put you up to, but there's no cupcake. Sorry. All right, I got to go. I'm pulling a double for Jen. She's got the flu.

[Lori closes her bag and hangs it on her shoulder]

Lori Spengler : Happy birthday, though. Toodles!

[Lori leaves, without giving any cupcake to Tree. Tree is totally confused]

    Tree Gelbman : Something's wrong.

    Carter Davis : What?

    Tree Gelbman : I don't know. It's different.

[Tree, Ryan and Carter sit at the cafeteria. Tree explains to them everything that happened in the first dimension]

  • [Tree, Ryan and Carter sit at the cafeteria. Tree explains to them everything that happened in the first dimension]

Ryan Phan : There were two of me?

Tree Gelbman : [impatiently]  Yes! That is how this whole thing happened.

Carter Davis : [smiles]  You know, this kind of reminds me of "Back to the Future II".

    Ryan Phan : Totally. Mm-hmm.

    Carter Davis : Right?

    [Tree stares at them cluelessly]

Carter Davis : You know, with Marty McFly?

    Ryan Phan : Doc?

    Carter Davis : The DeLorean?

    Tree Gelbman : Sorry.

Carter Davis : [stunned]  Are you serious? You've never seen "Back to the Future"?

Tree Gelbman : No, I... how do you... wait. Oh, my God. Does this mean that...

[Tree looks around fearfully, expecting to see another Tree]

Tree Gelbman : ...does this mean that there are two of me?

Ryan Phan : I highly doubt it. It's almost impossible to create a holographic universe. You're probably stuck in a quantum cyclic dimension.

    [Tree stares at Ryan cluelessly]

Tree Gelbman : [impatiently]  There's only one of you here, because the other you got knocked into a parallel dimension somewhere in the multiverse.

Tree Gelbman : [sarcastically]  Okay, Ryan. Thanks for clearing that up. That was super helpful.

Ryan Phan : You never heard the multiverse theory?

Tree Gelbman : Do I look like someone who knows what a multiverse is?

    Ryan Phan : Okay, look.

    [Ryan takes a napkin]

Ryan Phan : This is our universe. Okay? Now, look.

[Ryan folds the napkin several times]

Ryan Phan : In theory, the universe has six dimensions. Now, if what you're saying is true...

[Ryan drives his pen through the napkin]

Ryan Phan : ...then maybe you woke up on the same day...

    [Ryan unfolds the napkin]

Ryan Phan : ...but not in the same dimension. That would explain the anomalies.

Tree Gelbman : So, how different are we talking here?

Ryan Phan : Well, it depends...

[Tree notices that Danielle approaches them]

Tree Gelbman : Oh, shit. I forgot our house meeting. Danielle, I'm sorry. I just...

Danielle Bouseman : [approaches Carter]  Hey, babe.

Carter Davis : You doing all right?

[Tree gapes in disbelief and jealousy: Danielle and Carter kiss for a long moment]

Danielle Bouseman : [smiles at Ryan]  Hi, Ry.

Ryan Phan : [smiles shyly]  Hey, Danielle.

[Tree is even more puzzled: in the original dimension, Danielle is snobbish and obnoxious, and wouldn't even look at people like Carter and Ryan. Tree concludes it is one of the differences between the dimensions: in the current dimension, Danielle is nice and friendly]

  • Tree Gelbman : When were you gonna tell me?

Carter Davis : Tell you what?

    Tree Gelbman : About Danielle.

Carter Davis : [puzzled]  What about Danielle?

Tree Gelbman : Apparently you guys are dating.

Carter Davis : Wait, I thought... I thought you knew that. I mean, you guys live in the same house.

Tree Gelbman : Uh, no, I definitely didn't know. But the bigger question is: does she know?

Carter Davis : Does she know what?

Tree Gelbman : One of her closest friends woke up in your bed this morning. You don't think that that's newsworthy?

Carter Davis : [scoffs]  Nothing happened. I slept in Ryan's bed last night.

Tree Gelbman : So, why take me home?

Carter Davis : Because you were... you were wasted. I was afraid you were gonna fall or choke on your own vomit like Janis Joplin.

Tree Gelbman : [sighs, recalling that Carter told her the same thing in the original dimension]  Okay. It's fine. It's fine. It's fine. It's fine. This is how it's supposed to be. My mom's okay. Lori isn't trying to kill me. I mean, this is, like, the better version of my life, right?

Carter Davis : What are you...?

[Tree notices Dr. Gregory Butler and his wife Stephanie. They appear to be arguing]

Stephanie Butler : She's in a sorority, Gregory.

    Gregory Butler : She's...

Carter Davis : Wait a minute. In this... in this other dimension, were we...?

Tree Gelbman : I... I can't do this right now.

    [Tree walks away]

  • [at the hospital, Tree and Lori escape from the Bayfield Baby masked murderer. While they are in the elevator, the lights suddenly go off. The elevator stops]

    Tree Gelbman : What's happening?

    Lori Spengler : I-I don't know.

[Lori presses the emergency button, but nothing happens]

Tree Gelbman : Oh, my God, he cut the power.

Lori Spengler : [keeps pressing the emergency button]  Just stay calm. Just stay calm. Shit!

    [Lori thinks for a moment]

Lori Spengler : Okay. Come on.

[Lori manages to open the doors. She steps outside of the elevator, which stopped slightly higher than the floor]

    Lori Spengler : Come on.

[Lori helps Tree to exit the elevator. They find themselves in a deserted floor under construction]

Tree Gelbman : Where the hell are we?

Lori Spengler : This must be one of the floors under construction. Come on, there's an emergency exit on the other end.

[they walk down the corridor. Tree notices a sledgehammer leaning up against a wall]

Tree Gelbman : Wait. Grab that.

Lori Spengler : [picks the sledgehammer up]  Okay. Come on.

[Tree and Lori continue walking down the corridor, Lori leading the way. Suddenly Tree detects a rustling and a movement behind the plastic drapes. Lori stops]

Tree Gelbman : What? Did you hear something?

[Lori turns back to Tree, a painful expression on her face. She looks down to a knife sticking from the stomach. Blood starts to ooze from Lori's mouth and she collapses, dead. Tree gasps in horror. The murderer appears and picks up the sledgehammer]

Tree Gelbman : [enraged]  All right, asshole, let's see what you got!

[the murderer swings the sledgehammer at Tree, but she evades the blow. The sledgehammer is buried in the wall. Before the murderer can get it loose, Tree runs away. She spots an emergency exit. As the murderer nearly catches her, Tree open the door with her right shoulder and moves out of the way. The momentum of the attack makes the murderer stumble through the door, and down the stairwell, dropping the sledghammer]

    Tree Gelbman : Ha!

[the murderer recovers faster than Tree expected, and climbs the stairs back]

    Tree Gelbman : Shit!

[Tree runs upstairs. The murderer picks up the sledgehammer and runs after her. Tree opens a door, and finds herself on the roof. She hurries away from the murderer, keeping an eye on him, but fails to notice she advances toward the edge of the roof until she falls screaming to her death. The day resets. As happened so many times before, Tree finds herself in Carter's bed]

Tree Gelbman : [chides herself for being so careless]  Rookie move, Tree.

Carter Davis : Oh, hey. You're up.

Tree Gelbman : What dimension am I in?

    Carter Davis : [puzzled]  Huh?

    Tree Gelbman : Danielle.

Carter Davis : Uh, my girlfriend?

Tree Gelbman : [grunts]  Same one.

  • Tree Gelbman : Look, no offense, but how could you possibly end up with her?

Carter Davis : [puzzled]  With who?

    Tree Gelbman : Danielle.

Carter Davis : Uh, uh, she's nice.

    Tree Gelbman : Oh, "nice."

[Tree imitates a gunshot to the head]

Carter Davis : [puzzled]  Wait a minute. Isn't she, like, your best friend?

  • [Tree, Carter, Ryan, Samar and Dre gather at the lab. Tree explains the situation to them]

Tree Gelbman : [to Ryan]  Listen to me carefully. I need to stay here in this dimension. Okay? So just close the loop.

Ryan Phan : Look, we have no idea how this even happened in the first place.

Tree Gelbman : Well, you're all brainy science people, right? So you'll figure it out.

Samar Ghosh : You realize we're messing with things we have no business touching, right?

Tree Gelbman : [sharply]  Well, maybe you should have thought of that before you built the big dumb thing! Just... just please do me a favor and try to figure this out, okay? Please.

Ryan Phan : Look, this is gonna be a trial-and-error situation. We have to rule out every variable in order to narrow down the correct algorithm that will close the loop.

    Tree Gelbman : Okay.

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : It's days, maybe weeks of work. And if what you're saying is true, there's no way to keep a record of our progress.

Tree Gelbman : [cluelessly]  I'm not following.

Samar Ghosh : [shakes his head, approaches the board]  Okay. Um... say we test, like...

[using a marker, Samar circles several equations]

Samar Ghosh : ...dozens of variables. By the end of the day, the loop will reset, right?

    [Tree nods]

Samar Ghosh : So everything we earned gets...

[Samar erases the equations he circled]

Samar Ghosh : ...erased. There's no way for us to track our progress simply because we just don't remember anything we learned.

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : And we'll be back to square one.

Tree Gelbman : [throws up her hands in frustration]  Great.

[Tree sinks into a chair, hopelessy]

    Tree Gelbman : I'm screwed.

    [silence falls]

Carter Davis : Wait, no, I got it.

[Carter stands and approaches the board]

Carter Davis : Okay, you said everything resets but your memory, right?

    Tree Gelbman : Yeah.

Carter Davis : All right, well, then... you're just gonna have to be a living record.

Tree Gelbman : Wait, you mean memorize everything?

    Carter Davis : Yeah.

    Samar Ghosh : That's genius.

    Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Yeah.

Tree Gelbman : No. No, no, no, no. That's not genius. I'm not a scientist. And hello? I mean, you do realize there's a killer after me, right? That means I'm gonna have to die over and over again until you guys figure out how to close the loop.

Samar Ghosh : [hesitantly]  I mean, I guess you could just kill yourself before they find you.

Tree Gelbman : [sarcastically]  Wow. Another genius idea.

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Um, better than being chased by some crazy guy in a baby mask.

    [Tree wears a desperate expression]

Carter Davis : I mean, do you have a better idea?

Tree Gelbman : [sighs]  I knew you were gonna say that...

[for the next days, the gang works hard to find the correct algorithm. Tree does her best to memorize the complicated equations. With every try, the screen gives the same message "sequence failure". Every day, Tree watches Danielle and Carter kiss, and she is filled with jealousy. To her delight, she spends time with her parents. She finds creative ways to kill herself - dropping a toaster into a bath, drinking a liquid cleaner, skydiving without a parachute, jumping into a woodchipper, jumping from a clocktower. With every passing day, she grows weaker]

  • [Tree kills herself by falling off the clock tower. The day resets, and she wakes in Carter's bed, as happened so many times before]

Carter Davis : Oh, hey. You're up. I wasn't sure if you wanted...

Tree Gelbman : [recites boringly the words she heard so many times]  "I wasn't sure if you wanted to sleep in or not. I folded your clothes last night. Wasn't sure if that material gets wrinkled".

[Carter is confused that Tree knows what he is about to say]

Tree Gelbman : Anyway, what the hell are you always looking for under that desk?

Carter Davis : Uh... oh, just... my mouth guard. Yeah, I... I grind my teeth at night.

[Carter shows Tree the mouth guard]

Tree Gelbman : Oh, mystery solved. Yeah, it's my birthday, and I ain't gotta pick up the pho...

[Tree comes out of the bed. She groans painfully]

Carter Davis : [worried]  You okay?

Tree Gelbman : [dryly]  Yep. Never better.

    [Tree gets dressed]

Carter Davis : I don't know if you remember my name or not. You were, uh... you aere pretty wasted last night...

    [Tree grunts]

Carter Davis : ...but I'm-I'm Carter.

    Tree Gelbman : Ow!

Carter Davis : Hey, are you sure you're okay? You're looking kind of pale.

    [Tree's vision becomes blurred]

Tree Gelbman : No, I'm fine. I... Mmm. Actually, I'm probably gonna pass out.

    Carter Davis : What?

Tree Gelbman : Yep. Definitely passing out.

    [Tree collapses to Carter's arms]

Carter Davis : What? No, uh...

    [the door opens. Ryan enters]

Ryan Phan : You hit that fine vagine or what?

[Ryan notices that Tree is in bad shape]

Ryan Phan : Is she dead?

Carter Davis : Ryan, little help here, man.

    Ryan Phan : Oh, okay.

[Tree regains consciousness. She finds herself in a hospital bed, and gasps]

Carter Davis : Hey, hey. It's okay. It's just me.

  • [Tree passes out. Carter brings her to the hospital. She regains consciousness and gasps]

Carter Davis : Hey, hey. It's okay. It's just me.

    Tree Gelbman : Hey.

Carter Davis : You okay? You really gave me a scare back there.

Tree Gelbman : Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine.

    [pause]

Tree Gelbman : You still came.

Carter Davis : Yeah, of course. Why wouldn't I? Oh, we got a hold of your parents. They're on their way.

[Tree is filled with fear, recalling the murders performed in the hospital]

Tree Gelbman : No. They can't come here. It's not safe.

Carter Davis : What are you talking about?

[the lights go out. When they are back, Dr. Gregory Butler is suddenly present]

    Carter Davis : [recoils]  Jesus...

Gregory Butler : [coldly]  Can I help you?

    Tree Gelbman : Oh, it's okay. He's a friend.

Gregory Butler : Sorry. Visiting hours are over.

Carter Davis : Oh. All right. Well...

    [Carter starts walking away]

    Tree Gelbman : Thanks, Carter.

Carter Davis : Yeah. Feel better.

[Carter leaves. Gregory closes the door]

Tree Gelbman : [to Gregory]  So, I guess now you know why I wasn't in your class today.

    Gregory Butler : Pardon?

    Tree Gelbman : Advanced bio.

[Gregory looks strangely at Tree. Obviously he has no idea who she is. He approaches the bed and looks at Tree closely]

Gregory Butler : Uh, I'm sorry. Are you in my class? You don't look familiar.

[Tree realizes it is one of the differences between this dimension and the original dimension]

Tree Gelbman : [chuckles]  I'm sorry. My mistake.

Gregory Butler : Right. Well, I'm Dr. Butler.

[Gregory offers a handshake. Tree shakes his hand feebly]

Tree Gelbman : Nice to meet you.

Gregory Butler : Ms. Gelbman, I've been having a hard time pulling up your medical records.

[Tree recalls hearing this line in the original dimension]

Tree Gelbman : I know. I should be dead. My results, they don't make sense, right?

Gregory Butler : Yes. They're highly alarming, to be honest.

Tree Gelbman : Wait. What time is it?

Gregory Butler : [looks at his watch]  Uh, it's almost 9:30. Why?

Tree Gelbman : [fearfully]  She's about to die.

    Gregory Butler : Who?

Tree Gelbman : Lori. He's gonna kill her!

  • Tree Gelbman : Wait. What time is it?

Gregory Butler : [looks at his watch]  Almost 21:30, why?

Tree Gelbman : [fearfully]  She is about to die.

    Gregory Butler : Who?

Tree Gelbman : Lori. He's gonna kill her?

    Gregory Butler : What?

Tree Gelbman : Listen to me. You need to stop her from going down to the OR.

Gregory Butler : [lying]  I'm sorry. I don't know who you're talking about.

Tree Gelbman : [sharply]  Oh, really? Well, maybe your wife does.

    [Gregory looks aghast]

    Tree Gelbman : Go.

    [Gregory shakes his head]

    Tree Gelbman : Go!

[Gregory rushes out of the room. Tree removes the catheter from her hand and exits. She sneaks past nurse Deena at the nurses' station and rushes to Tombs' room. As the security guard comes out of the restroom, Tree hits him on the end with a telephone. The guard collapses, unconscious. Tree bends over him and takes his gun]

    Tree Gelbman : Sorry...

[Tree takes the elevator to the floor of the OR. She moves stealthily along the corridor. A nurse appears, and Tree quickly hides in a doorway until she is out of sight. On her way, Tree suddenly notices blood drops on the floor. She cautiously enters the OR, ready to open fire. Following the trail of the blood drops, she moves the curtain. Lori's dead body lies on the floor in a puddle of blood]

    Tree Gelbman : [sorrowfully]  Lori...

[a Bayfield Baby masked person, armed with a knife, steps behind Tree. She senses it in time, turns back and shoots twice. The masked person collapses. Smiling bitterly, Tree approaches the masked person, removes the mask, revealing Tombs' face]

Tree Gelbman : [snarls]  Who set you free?

[Tombs lips move, blood oozes from his mouth, but no words come out. He dies. Suddenly, a curtain moves, and a second Bayfield Baby masked person appears behind Tree. Tree senses the second assailant too late. It grabs Tree, one hand around her throat and the second holding her right wrist, trying to make her drop the gun. Tree struggles, but in vain. She realizes it is the real murderer, who used Tombs as a cover up]

Tree Gelbman : [yells]  Who are you?

[the assailant does not answer. Tree notices several cylinders of flammable gas a few feet away]

Tree Gelbman : [enraged]  Fine. I go, you go!

[Tree straightens her hand and shoots at the gas cylinders. They explode in flames. Tree and the masked person are engulfed with flames. Tree awakes in Carter's bed, as usual]

Carter Davis : Oh, hey. You're up. I wasn't sure if you wanted to sleep in or not.

Tree Gelbman : [grumbles]  I am so done with this shit...

[Tree gathers the group in the lab and explains the situation to them. Then she draws on the board the equations she has been memorizing in the past days]

  • [Tree gathers the group in the lab and explains the situation to them. Then she draws on the board the equations she has been memorizing in the past days]

Tree Gelbman : ...Then you multiply the Euclidean vector by the square root of pi to the seventeenth power, which then gives us an axiom point of 0.004, which then gives us a linear-plane vector of 8.2...

[Tree sighs and drops the marker]

    Tree Gelbman : Boom.

    Carter Davis : [impressed]  Damn!

[Tree smiles. Samar and Dre approach the board and carefully examine the equations]

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Well, if these are all the failed algorithms...

Samar Ghosh : ...Then there's only one possibility left.

[they turn to Ryan. The three rush to the computer. Ryan sits down and types the equations. Carter and Tree approach. Then the message "system ready" appears on the screen]

Ryan Phan : Holy shit balls. You did it!

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Oh, oh!

Tree Gelbman : What? It worked?

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Yes, yes, yes.

Tree Gelbman : It worked? Oh, my God, it worked!

[they are excited. Tree hugs Carter]

Samar Ghosh : We did it! Why are we so excited? We barely know her.

Carter Davis : Honestly, I-I don't know what just happened, but that was impressive.

    Tree Gelbman : Thanks.

Ryan Phan : [hugs their shoulders]  Let's do this!

[Samar and Dre examine the wires and cables of Sissy. Ryan turns to Tree]

Ryan Phan : Just so we're totally clear, one variant closes the loop in this dimension, and the other one sends you back to your original dimension and closes that loop. It's final decision time. Stay here or go back.

[Tree hesitates. She turns to Carter and looks at him for a long moment. Then she turns to Ryan]

Tree Gelbman : I'm staying here. Final decision.

Ryan Phan : Okay. Here we go, then. Stand back.

[Ryan sits at the computer and starts typing. Tree stands near Carter. The machine starts to fire up, but suddenly it powers down]

    Ryan Phan : Huh?

    [Samar and Dre sigh]

    Tree Gelbman : What happened?

    [Dre approaches the computer]

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Oh, the vector's off.

Tree Gelbman : [worried]  But you said this was the right one.

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : No, the math was right. Something else is off.

Tree Gelbman : [desperately]  Guys, I have literally been killing myself to memorize this shit for you. Failure's not an option.

[Ryan and Dre's eyes fix on something]

    Tree Gelbman : What?

Ryan Phan : There's something in the hard drive. It must be a virus.

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : [to Samar]  Dude, did you open spam porn again on the computer?

[everyone stares at Samar accusingly. He has a guilty expression]

    Samar Ghosh : [unconvincingly]  No!

Ryan Phan : [grumbles]  Great. I have to manually re-enter all this code.

  • Ryan Phan : Great. I have to manually re-enter all this code.

Tree Gelbman : Okay, how long?

Ryan Phan : Six, seven hours.

Tree Gelbman : Ryan, look at me. I am on borrowed time here. Understand? Get it done.

Ryan Phan : Uh, yeah, I'm on it.

[Tree leaves. Carter runs after her]

Carter Davis : Tree, wait up.

    [Tree continues walking away]

Carter Davis : Hey. Are you sure about this?

Tree Gelbman : Of course I'm sure.

Carter Davis : Okay, well, what about the killer?

    [Tree stops]

Carter Davis : I mean, you said people are gonna die tonight. If you close the loop and we don't help, then they're dead for good, aren't they?

Tree Gelbman : [firmly]  I have to stay alive. I can't go back to that hospital. It's way too risky.

    [Tree starts walking away]

Carter Davis : Okay, so that's it? You're just gonna walk away and let a bunch of innocent people die?

[Tree stops and returns to face Carter]

Tree Gelbman : People die every day, Carter. I can't be responsible for everyone, okay? I know how selfish that sounds, but it's true.

Carter Davis : [disdainfully]  Yeah, no, that sounds incredibly selfish. Are you serious?

Tree Gelbman : [shakes her head tearfully]  That's not fair. You have no idea how hard this is for me. I don't want to have to choose between you and my mom, but I have to.

Carter Davis : What do you mean, "choose"?

    [Tree hesisates for a moment]

Tree Gelbman : Carter, we're together in the other dimension.

    [Carter gapes]

Tree Gelbman : I woke up in your bed every morning, just like this morning. I did it over and over and over again until I fell in love with you. But that version of us is back there, and my mom is alive here. So I've made my decision.

Carter Davis : Wh... what if you're wrong? Huh? What if you're wrong? What if this isn't the life that you're-you're supposed to have?

Tree Gelbman : So, what? I'm just supposed to go back to some dimension where my mom's dead?

[Tree shakes her head, choked by tears]

    Tree Gelbman : I can't. I can't lose her again.

Carter Davis : [quietly]  You already did. And none of this is real if it erases that. You're just... you're living someone else's life that doesn't belong to you. Y-Your pain, th-that loss, that's... that's what makes you you. But you have the chance to do something other people only dream of.

    Tree Gelbman : What?

Carter Davis : You can say goodbye.

[before Tree can answer, they hear Danielle calling Carter "Yoo-hoo!". She approaches]

Tree Gelbman : Your girlfriend's calling you. Better go.

    [Tree walks away]

Danielle Bouseman : What's her problem? She just ditched our house meeting.

[Carter does not answer. His eyes are fixed on Tree, as she getting further from them. Danielle notices that and snaps her fingers before his face]

Danielle Bouseman : Hello? What were you guys talking about?

Carter Davis : [lies]  Nothing. We were just... we were going over school stuff.

  • [Tree calls the lab, intending to tell Ryan not to close the time-loop, so the day can be reset and she can prevent the deaths of Lori, the guard and Carter. At the lab, Ryan is busy preparing Sissy, and does not notice that someone calls him]

Julie Gelbman : Tree, what is going on?

Tree Gelbman : [murmurs]  I can't let him close it...

David Gelbman : [enters]  You know, I'm not sure about this ice. It kind of smells like pee.

[Tree snatches the car keys from the tables and head for the door. She pushes past her father and exits the room]

David Gelbman : Tree? Tree! Where are you going? Tree?

[Tree enters her parents' car, starts it and drives back to the campus as fast as she can. Tears running down her face, she tries to contact Ryan]

Tree Gelbman : Come on. Come on, come on! Pick up your phone!

[all Tree hears is the automatic message "Yo, it's Ryan. Leave a...". Tree puts the cellphone down]

    Tree Gelbman : Shit!

[at the lab, Ryan, Samar and Dre finally finish preparing Sissy]

Ryan Phan : Here we go!

[desperately, Tree realizes there is only one thing she can do in order to prevent the murders: reset the day by getting herself killed. She drives to the electrical substation she noticed earlier]

Tree Gelbman : Where is it? Come on, come on, come on. Please.

[t the lab, Ryan starts the system sequence. Tree arrives at the electrical substation. She turns the car and rams the fence. Just as one second is left for the machine, Tree rams the electrical transformators, causing massive explosion and power failure at the campus. Sissy shuts down because the process is completed. Tree wakes up in Carter's bed, as usual]

Carter Davis : Oh, hey. You're up. I wasn't sure if you wanted to sleep in or not.

Tree Gelbman : [murmurs]  That is the last time I'm dying for you...

    Carter Davis : [puzzled]  What?

[Tree smiles. She is glad her plan works and Carter is alive]

  • [Tree and her friends gather at the lab. Sissy is ready for closing the time-loop and sending Tree back to the original dimension]

    Ryan Phan : You ready?

[Tree looks at Carter, then nods. Ryan walks toward the computer]

    Tree Gelbman : Wait.

    [Ryan stops. Tree faces everyone]

Tree Gelbman : I know this is probably pretty confusing. I mean, you guys have only known me for a couple hours...

[Samar and Dre smile at each other]

Tree Gelbman : ...but I've known you for weeks. You've all worked really, really hard to try to send me home. So thank you.

Samar Ghosh : [jokingly]  Well, jury's still out on whether you're totally nuts, but, uh...

[Samar chuckles. Dre gives him a chiding look]

Samar Ghosh : ...glad we could help.

[Dre slaps Samar slightly in the stomach]

Tree Gelbman : Okay, Ryan, light her up.

[Ryan sits at the computer desk and turns Sissy on. While the machine warms up, Carter turns to Tree]

Carter Davis : S-So, in this other dimension, do we... do we know each other?

Tree Gelbman : You could say that.

[Tree and Carter smile at each other]

    Ryan Phan : 17 seconds. 16, 15, 14...

[suddenly, Dean Bronson storms in, accompanied by two burly security guards. Tree is shocked, since he was not supposed to do this but a day after]

Dean Roger Bronson : [to Ryan]  What did I tell you about turning that thing on?

    Samar Ghosh : Uh-oh...

Tree Gelbman : [puzzled]  Wait. This isn't supposed to happen yet. You're not supposed to come until tomorrow.

Dean Roger Bronson : [to Ryan]  Turn that thing off now.

    Tree Gelbman : No, don't!

[Bronson approaches Sissy. Tree and her friends rush to stop him, but too late. He unplugs the machine]

Tree Gelbman : No, wait, please. You can't do this.

Dean Roger Bronson : And who are you?

Tree Gelbman : I am a student here.

Dean Roger Bronson : Oh, well, keep this little attitude up, and we'll change that.

[Bronson turns to the security guards]

Dean Roger Bronson : Get that thing out of here.

Tree Gelbman : No, please d-don't.

[the guards ignore Tree and start moving Sissy out of the room]

Samar Ghosh : Hey, watch it, beefcake!

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Well, don't manhandle her. Well, where are you taking her?

Dean Roger Bronson : My office, where it will remain under lock and key.

[Bronson and the guards leave with Sissy]

  • [after Dean Bronson confiscated Sissy, the group is in despair. Hopelessly, Tree sits down]

Carter Davis : Look, okay, it's a setback. I get it. Right, but we just reset the day and try again.

Tree Gelbman : [in trembling voice]  No. You don't understand. I keep getting weaker every time I come back. I don't know how many chances I have left. For all I know, this could be it. If I die again, I could stay dead.

    Samar Ghosh : Hmm, that's a problem.

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : No shit.

    Tree Gelbman : Unless...

    [Tree stands]

Tree Gelbman : ...unless we steal it back.

    Ryan Phan : Steal it?

Tree Gelbman : Well, I mean, you know, it's not even technically stealing, is it? It's your property.

Samar Ghosh : Whoa, whoa, guys, I don't know about this. Like, if we get caught and I get expelled, my parents are gonna hang me by the nut sack.

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : I'm with him. Except for the "nut sack" part, obviously.

Carter Davis : [angrily]  Are you kidding me? Are... no. I'm sorry to throw a bag of dog shit on your front porch here, but I... this is all on you guys. You created this mess, so you're obligated to help her out of it. Besides, if she dies again tonight, that's blood on your hands.

    Samar Ghosh : That's a little dramatic.

Ryan Phan : He's right. This is our fault.

    [everyone looks at Ryan]

Ryan Phan : So we fix it. That's what scientists do. We solve the problem.

[Tree smiles. The group sits in the cafeteria and examines the campus map]

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : So, Dean Bronson's office is in this building here...

[Dre circles the office with a marker]

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : ...and the fastest route back to the lab is this path here.

Samar Ghosh : And check this out, guys. Dean Bronson spends every evening knitting in the faculty lounge over here.

Carter Davis : Wait, what? He knits?

Samar Ghosh : I think he used to smoke, and then his wife made him quit, and, uh... Oh, by the way, shockingly hot.

    Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Samar?

    Samar Ghosh : Hmm?

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Could we do the-the thing we're... we're doing right now?

Samar Ghosh : Okay, okay. Right. Sorry. Um, okay. So, we need to get the keys to his office, sneak over to admissions, break into the dean's office, grab Sissy, wheel her back to the lab without anyone from security seeing us, get Dean Bronson's keys back to him without him ever knowing they were gone, power up Sissy, run diagnostics, flip the switch, and bam... Tree's back in whatever wack-ass dimension she came from, and we... well, we just saved the damn day.

[Samar drops the marker. Everyone nods in approval]

Tree Gelbman : Okay. Sounds awesome. How do we do that?

    Samar Ghosh : [shrugs]  I don't know.

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : [rolls her eyes]  Of course.

Carter Davis : Okay, well, we obviously need a diversion. So we just got to find a way to distract Dean Bronson.

[Carter's cellphone rings with the tone of the song "You're beautiful". Carter takes it and looks at the screen: it is a call from Danielle]

Carter Davis : [embarrassed]  Uh, she picked the ringtone, all right? I...

[Carter walks a few steps from his friends and starts talking with Danielle. Dre mocks vomiting]

Carter Davis : Hey, babe. Yeah, uh, you okay?

[suddenly, Tree comes up with a great idea]

  • [at the lab, Ryan, Samar and Dre install Sissy. Ryan sits at the computer, typing quickly]

Carter Davis : Hey. How's it going?

Ryan Phan : We're on it.

[Tree looks at the clock. The time is 20:58]

Tree Gelbman : Guys, we've got less than three hours to make this happen.

Ryan Phan : Not gonna lie... it's gonna be close.

[Tree looks at the clock again. Suddenly she remembers that Tombs is going to make his move within a few minutes]

Tree Gelbman : Shit. If I don't stop the killer, Lori's gonna die.

    [Tree turns to Carter]

    Carter Davis : Stay here.

Tree Gelbman : [confused]  What? Why?

Tree Gelbman : Just promise me you'll stay here.

    [Tree takes a screwdriver]

Tree Gelbman : Can I borrow this?

Ryan Phan : Uh, y-yeah, sure.

[Tree shoves the screwdriver into her back pocket]

    Tree Gelbman : Okay.

    [Tree rushes out]

Carter Davis : W-Wait, where are you going? Tree!

[Tree heads for the hospital, determined to save Lori and stop Tombs and the other murderer]

  • [mid-credit scene: Tree and her friends are cleaning the college yard, as a punishment for the mess Ryan made]

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Just doesn't make any sense.

Ryan Phan : Yes, it does. It acted like a slingshot. When she jumped back into this dimension, the vacuum created by the centripetal force closed the loop.

[Samar notices a partly-eaten churro on the ground]

Samar Ghosh : Who throws away a perfectly good churro?

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Oh, no, don't.

[Samar eats the churro. Suddenly, several black cars stop near them. People who look like FBI agents exit the cars and approach them]

Samar Ghosh : Uh-oh. This looks bad.

    Dr. Parker : Ryan Phan?

    Ryan Phan : Uh, maybe.

Dr. Parker : I'm Dr. Isaac Parker. I'm here on behalf of DARPA. We'd appreciate it if you'd come with us to answer some questions. All of you.

Tree Gelbman : Are we in trouble?

Dr. Parker : Please, right this way.

[Tree and her friends are brought to DARPA laboratory, where Sissy has been moved for further experimentation]

Ryan Phan : [gasps]  Holy shit. Sissy!

Dr. Parker : Hope you don't mind us borrowing her. What you've created here is truly remarkable.

    [Tree and her friends smile]

Samar Ghosh : Suck it, Dean Bronson.

Dr. Parker : We've been having some difficulties understanding how the device operates. We figured you could help.

Ryan Phan : There's so many different algorithms. It'll be tough to find the right one to make it work.

Tree Gelbman : I might be able to help with that.

[everyone looks strangely at Tree, who has memorized the correct algorithm in the second dimension]

Dr. Parker : Great. So, we just need to find a test subject.

Carter Davis : [smiles]  Wait, you... you want to trap somebody in a time loop? That's messed up. Unless they deserve it.

    [Tree has an idea]

Tree Gelbman : I think I have the perfect recruit...

[last scene: in her bedroom, Danielle wakes up screaming in horror, as she is now trapped in a time loop of her own]
