Quotes

  • [Tree holds Gregory at gunpoint. Sirens are heard from distance]

Tree Gelbman : [smiles]  You hear that? You're gonna rot in prison.

Gregory Butler : [narrows his eyes]  I don't think so. You see, there's one little detail you failed to realize in all this.

Tree Gelbman : Oh, really? What's that?

[Stephanie appears behind Tree and Lori, armed with a gun]

    Stephanie Butler : Me.

[Lori turns back and shrieks in horror. Stephanie shoots at her in the stomach. Lori collapses, injured]

    Tree Gelbman : Lori!

Stephanie Butler : You really think I was gonna let a little whore like that ruin my life?

[Tree and Stephanie point their guns at each other. Gregory charges at Tree, tackling her down. The gun is knocked from Tree's hands, and Stephanie picks it. Gregory wraps his fingers around Tree's throat]

Stephanie Butler : Gregory, kill her!

[Tree punches Gregory. She nearly manages to get free, but Gregory grabs her hair and slams her head against the floor, then stands and steps away from her. Stephanie hands Gregory one of the guns]

Stephanie Butler : Would you like to do the honors?

Gregory Butler : Don't mind if I do.

[Gregory points the gun at Tree, who is lying helplessly on the floor, near the injured Lori. Suddenly Gregory turns to his wife]

Gregory Butler : Oh, wait. I almost forgot.

[Gregory shoots Stephanie. She collapses, dead]

    Gregory Butler : I want a divorce.

    [Gregory turns back to Tree]

Gregory Butler : Now, where were we?

    [suddenly Carter shows up]

    Carter Davis : Hey!

[Gregory shoots wildly at Carter's direction. Carter evades the shot. Tree seizes the opportunity and runs away. Gregory shoots after her, but misses. Tree enters the MRI room. She grabs a computer keyboard. When Gregory enters, Tree hits him with the keyboard, knocking the gun from his hand. Gregory grabs Tree and throws her through a window to the next room. Tree collapses painfully near a wheelchair, stunned and injured. Gregory picks the gun and approaches Tree. Tree pulls a screwdriver from her back pocket and waves it feebly at Gregory, who stands with his back to the MRI machine]

Gregory Butler : [laughs, amused]  Aw, look who brought a screwdriver to a gunfight...

[Tree notices the switch that turns on the MRI machine. Gregory cocks the gun]

Tree Gelbman : Wait! I have something I need to tell you.

    Gregory Butler : What?

    Tree Gelbman : You're screwed!

[Tree presses the switch, turning on the MRI machine. The wheelchair, pulled by the powerful magnet, is thrown against Gregory, slamming and pinning him to the MRI machine. The gun is his hand is also pinned to the machine]

Gregory Butler : [screams painfully]  Turn it off, you bitch!

[Tree points the screwdriver to Gregory's chest. Realizing what she is going to do, Gregory is filled with fear]

Gregory Butler : No. No, no, no, no, no, no, wait. Wait!

[Tree lets go of the screwdriver. The tool, drawn by the magnet, flies forward and gets buried in Gregory's chest. He gasps and dies. Tree shuts the power off. The murderer and the wheelchair drop to the floor. Tree slumps on the floor, sighs with relief; the nightmare has finally over]

  • Tree Gelbman : When were you gonna tell me?

Carter Davis : Tell you what?

    Tree Gelbman : About Danielle.

Carter Davis : [puzzled]  What about Danielle?

Tree Gelbman : Apparently you guys are dating.

Carter Davis : Wait, I thought... I thought you knew that. I mean, you guys live in the same house.

Tree Gelbman : Uh, no, I definitely didn't know. But the bigger question is: does she know?

Carter Davis : Does she know what?

Tree Gelbman : One of her closest friends woke up in your bed this morning. You don't think that that's newsworthy?

Carter Davis : [scoffs]  Nothing happened. I slept in Ryan's bed last night.

Tree Gelbman : So, why take me home?

Carter Davis : Because you were... you were wasted. I was afraid you were gonna fall or choke on your own vomit like Janis Joplin.

Tree Gelbman : [sighs, recalling that Carter told her the same thing in the original dimension]  Okay. It's fine. It's fine. It's fine. It's fine. This is how it's supposed to be. My mom's okay. Lori isn't trying to kill me. I mean, this is, like, the better version of my life, right?

Carter Davis : What are you...?

[Tree notices Dr. Gregory Butler and his wife Stephanie. They appear to be arguing]

Stephanie Butler : She's in a sorority, Gregory.

    Gregory Butler : She's...

Carter Davis : Wait a minute. In this... in this other dimension, were we...?

Tree Gelbman : I... I can't do this right now.

    [Tree walks away]

  • [Tree spots Lori and Dr. Gregory Butler. They appear to have a heated argument. As Lori starts walking away, Gregory grabs her hand]

Lori Spengler : [angrily shakes off Gregory's hand]  Don't touch me!

    Gregory Butler : Sorry.

[Tree deduces that unlike in the original dimension, in this dimension Lori - not her - is Gregory's secret lover]

  • [Tree passes out. Carter brings her to the hospital. She regains consciousness and gasps]

Carter Davis : Hey, hey. It's okay. It's just me.

    Tree Gelbman : Hey.

Carter Davis : You okay? You really gave me a scare back there.

Tree Gelbman : Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine.

    [pause]

Tree Gelbman : You still came.

Carter Davis : Yeah, of course. Why wouldn't I? Oh, we got a hold of your parents. They're on their way.

[Tree is filled with fear, recalling the murders performed in the hospital]

Tree Gelbman : No. They can't come here. It's not safe.

Carter Davis : What are you talking about?

[the lights go out. When they are back, Dr. Gregory Butler is suddenly present]

    Carter Davis : [recoils]  Jesus...

Gregory Butler : [coldly]  Can I help you?

    Tree Gelbman : Oh, it's okay. He's a friend.

Gregory Butler : Sorry. Visiting hours are over.

Carter Davis : Oh. All right. Well...

    [Carter starts walking away]

    Tree Gelbman : Thanks, Carter.

Carter Davis : Yeah. Feel better.

[Carter leaves. Gregory closes the door]

Tree Gelbman : [to Gregory]  So, I guess now you know why I wasn't in your class today.

    Gregory Butler : Pardon?

    Tree Gelbman : Advanced bio.

[Gregory looks strangely at Tree. Obviously he has no idea who she is. He approaches the bed and looks at Tree closely]

Gregory Butler : Uh, I'm sorry. Are you in my class? You don't look familiar.

[Tree realizes it is one of the differences between this dimension and the original dimension]

Tree Gelbman : [chuckles]  I'm sorry. My mistake.

Gregory Butler : Right. Well, I'm Dr. Butler.

[Gregory offers a handshake. Tree shakes his hand feebly]

Tree Gelbman : Nice to meet you.

Gregory Butler : Ms. Gelbman, I've been having a hard time pulling up your medical records.

[Tree recalls hearing this line in the original dimension]

Tree Gelbman : I know. I should be dead. My results, they don't make sense, right?

Gregory Butler : Yes. They're highly alarming, to be honest.

Tree Gelbman : Wait. What time is it?

Gregory Butler : [looks at his watch]  Uh, it's almost 9:30. Why?

Tree Gelbman : [fearfully]  She's about to die.

    Gregory Butler : Who?

Tree Gelbman : Lori. He's gonna kill her!

  • Tree Gelbman : Wait. What time is it?

Gregory Butler : [looks at his watch]  Almost 21:30, why?

Tree Gelbman : [fearfully]  She is about to die.

    Gregory Butler : Who?

Tree Gelbman : Lori. He's gonna kill her?

    Gregory Butler : What?

Tree Gelbman : Listen to me. You need to stop her from going down to the OR.

Gregory Butler : [lying]  I'm sorry. I don't know who you're talking about.

Tree Gelbman : [sharply]  Oh, really? Well, maybe your wife does.

    [Gregory looks aghast]

    Tree Gelbman : Go.

    [Gregory shakes his head]

    Tree Gelbman : Go!

[Gregory rushes out of the room. Tree removes the catheter from her hand and exits. She sneaks past nurse Deena at the nurses' station and rushes to Tombs' room. As the security guard comes out of the restroom, Tree hits him on the end with a telephone. The guard collapses, unconscious. Tree bends over him and takes his gun]

    Tree Gelbman : Sorry...

[Tree takes the elevator to the floor of the OR. She moves stealthily along the corridor. A nurse appears, and Tree quickly hides in a doorway until she is out of sight. On her way, Tree suddenly notices blood drops on the floor. She cautiously enters the OR, ready to open fire. Following the trail of the blood drops, she moves the curtain. Lori's dead body lies on the floor in a puddle of blood]

    Tree Gelbman : [sorrowfully]  Lori...

[a Bayfield Baby masked person, armed with a knife, steps behind Tree. She senses it in time, turns back and shoots twice. The masked person collapses. Smiling bitterly, Tree approaches the masked person, removes the mask, revealing Tombs' face]

Tree Gelbman : [snarls]  Who set you free?

[Tombs lips move, blood oozes from his mouth, but no words come out. He dies. Suddenly, a curtain moves, and a second Bayfield Baby masked person appears behind Tree. Tree senses the second assailant too late. It grabs Tree, one hand around her throat and the second holding her right wrist, trying to make her drop the gun. Tree struggles, but in vain. She realizes it is the real murderer, who used Tombs as a cover up]

Tree Gelbman : [yells]  Who are you?

[the assailant does not answer. Tree notices several cylinders of flammable gas a few feet away]

Tree Gelbman : [enraged]  Fine. I go, you go!

[Tree straightens her hand and shoots at the gas cylinders. They explode in flames. Tree and the masked person are engulfed with flames. Tree awakes in Carter's bed, as usual]

Carter Davis : Oh, hey. You're up. I wasn't sure if you wanted to sleep in or not.

Tree Gelbman : [grumbles]  I am so done with this shit...

[Tree gathers the group in the lab and explains the situation to them. Then she draws on the board the equations she has been memorizing in the past days]

  • [after Tree kills Tombs, she and Lori run away]

Lori Spengler : Tree, will you please tell me what's going on?

Tree Gelbman : At first, I thought he was trying to kill me, but it's you he's after.

    Lori Spengler : Who?

[a person wearing a Bayfield Baby mask, armed with a knife, blocks their way. Tree, who has figured that person is the real murderer, points the gun at him]

Tree Gelbman : It's over, Gregory!

[the masked person removes the mask, revealing himself to be Dr. Gregory Butler]

Lori Spengler : [shocked]  What? Why?

Tree Gelbman : His wife found out about your affair...

[a flashback: Gregory and his wife arguing]

Tree Gelbman : ...so he stole a page from your old playbook. He set Tombs free, knowing that everyone would think that he killed you...

[a flashback: Tombs is transported to the OR. Gregory secretly places a Bayfield Baby mask on Tombs' face and a knife in his bed]

Tree Gelbman : ...and the secret of your affair would die with you.

[Gregory claps his hands mockingly while he keeps advancing toward Tree and Lori]

Gregory Butler : Bravo. Well done, indeed.

Tree Gelbman : [disdainfully]  Once a douchebag, always a douchebag.

Gregory Butler : I'm sorry, do I know you?

Tree Gelbman : Stay back, asshole!

[Gregory ignores the warning and keeps walking toward them. Tree shoots near Gregory's feet. He stops and drops the knife. At the lab, the guards keep trying to open the doors by force]
