Actually quite frightening and didn't use gratuitous Gore! ;D
midnitepantera17 May 2021
I watched this last week, and actually chewed my nails during certain hide and seek type scenes. I was all scrunched up on my couch, with my hand over my mouth, thinking girl, don't breathe, he will hear you. Ha Hahahaha Is this an original story, no, but had some original elements and was just plain CREEPY and Claustrophobic feeling. I thought the acting was pretty good for a low budget movie and the house was pure eye candy for horror movie lovers of monster props. For some reason in certain scenes, that guy reminded me of a Duplass brother. This movie wasn't a splatter fest, used gore when it was vital to the scene, which I appreciate. And if you get in the head space that your one of the characters who played the couple as you watch it, It's actually full on scary if you put yourself in their shoes. The scariest part is that there well may be people out there, for REAL, doing horrific things like this to someone as you sit on your comfy sofa watching this movie. The world is full of SICKOs FOR REAL! :o.

Watchable, but nothing outstanding here...
paul_haakonsen28 June 2021
I happened to stumble upon the 2019 movie "Making Monsters" in 2021. I had never heard about it, and I didn't even know what it was about. However, I saw the movie's cover and figured it to be a horror movie, so of course I ended up watching "Making Monsters".

And while "Making Monsters" from writer Justin Harding was watchable, it was not really an outstanding or memorable horror movie. Sure, the storyline was adequately entertaining, but it just didn't bring anything new or fresh to the table, so it was essentially just a fairly average addition to the genre.

Directors Justin Harding and Rob Brunner managed to make the movie watchable, just a shame that the contents of the script and storyline was a bit restrictive. The movie suffered from being a bit cluttered and lacking ups and downs to its storyline. The story just trotted out there is a fairly monotonous pace, for better or worse.

The acting in the movie was actually good, and actors Tim Loden, Jonathan Craig and actress Alana Elmer actually carried the movie quite well. Now, "Making Monsters" is not a movie that has a lot of people on the cast list, so there was a bit of extra pressure on the actors and actresses performances, and luckily they rose to the occasion.

For a horror movie then "Making Monsters" just didn't cut it for me, no pun intended. The movie wasn't scary, and it felt like writer Justin Harding was just riding it safe and playing on horses that have been in horror movies before.

I am rating "Making Monsters" a slightly less than mediocre four out of ten stars. It was watchable, but this movie came and went without catching my attention, and it is a movie that will quietly fade into oblivion in my book.

Lack of personality
Fernando-Rodrigues27 July 2021
It has solid performances and potential to be something interesting, but it has a monotonous pace. Also, there aren't new elements or a captivating execution of the present formulas on the film, so it is slightly mediocre. This movie is not bad, but it also isn't great.

Both good and bad
jpr-980359 November 2023
Just randomly decided to stream this movie. For an independent film, it definitely grabbed my attention more than normal. I went into it, expecting a really bad movie, but was delightfully surprised that it kept my attention.

Reflecting on the movie as a whole, it feels like it was struggling to understand its own identity. The plot seemed like copied and pasted good parts from wildly different scary movies. All culminating in a very watchable movie that lacked any sort of cohesion. A storyline that gives ADHD on cocaine vibes.

Last but not least, the actress makes one dumb face throughout the whole movie, it was unbearable to see.

Definitely worth the watch as long as you're not sensitive.

I've seen a comment on here about wishing the stuff from the movie would happen to the creators. Why are you watching scary movies???? Go back to Disney channel. This movie has an interesting storyline that keeps you watching to find out what happens. It's one of the better horror movies I've watch this year.

So many movies have been doing the "web cam" style since, you know what, and I can appreciate what the movie has to offer. Trust me I've seen a lot of TERRIBLE and actually GROTESQUE movies. The actors did a great job.

I didn't get it!
Go_For_The_Jugular2 March 2022
Started off reasonably well...got very boring in the middle...and ended with a lot of action. But if I'm honest, I didn't really understand the premise.

What motivated them all? It just didn't make sense to me.

You see someone you haven't seen for years, and you just agree to stay at their house for the weekend...without even catching up first?!! Especially considering that they're just starting IVF...you don't go a wacky adventures during IVF!

For the most part, the cinematography and sound were good, but overall it's a good idea that was poorly executed.

Could of been so much better.

I give credit...
xxmisssvxx3 April 2021
I have to give to credit to this film because it was a random choice of selection without even researching too much of what the film was about. To my surprise, this was interesting and rather enjoyable for what it was.

I liked the execution of showing the right elements of creepiness to balance out the film and create this sort of paranoiac reality.

I do question the film, more so the characters and why? Was the initial substance meant to create such a trip or was it a game for the thrill of scare and live stream? Maybe it was both combined with a envy x jealousy, and out of this came an ultimate plan to become the new "it", the center of attention. The weird was obvious from the beginning...

I recommend this if you're looking for something different, something that's creative and creepy in one. It's a good one in my book.

Where do I start.
JoanBetteGene28 March 2021
This movie was absolutely awful! The acting was stiff and very fake, none of the characters were remotely likable, and there were so many plot holes and unexplained/unrealistic things that happened it's a wonder I made it through the whole movie; but when you hand out $7, you stay with the thing. My advise would be to avoid this movie like the plague.

Prank(s) gone wrong
kosmasp6 February 2020
If you are not into reality tv and/or prank shows, you may have to overcome a bit of ... well story plot to be interested or even invested. Then again, almost every movie needs to have some of that. If you can overcome that hurdle there is quite some tension and the movie is nicely told and edited.

Indulge it and it will be somewhat rewarding. Be offended from the start and you've wasted your time ...

Suspenseful horror
bruce_nawrocki2 March 2020
Saw this at 2020 Nevermore Horror Film Festival. Although a low budget film, its great orchestral score helped accentuate the suspense. I preferred to know as little as possible about the plot going in, and it certainly kept me guessing about what was going to happen next, and who set this into motion until the finale, which is difficult to do well. So, I won't spoil any of it here either.

Good concept
pumpkin_queen-4890327 April 2022
Started off very enjoyable, but the ending was disappointing. They could have done so much with it! And didn't really tie everything up. All in all, well worth a watch, even if just for the gorgeous church converted house!!

The Big Scary Dark Web, Again...
icocleric4 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't like it. I was kind of hoping for a different film to be honest based off the synopsis. I thought it'd be the prankster getting pranked but, then things getting weirder possibly even supernatural. Like what's real and what's not kind of thing. Then people growing as people along the way, or getting murdered.

The oh, its the dark web paying people to hurt people has been done to death. And there's much scarier out there coving the same thing.

The set up at the start of the film was good, but sadly went down hill from there. Like there were some cool chilling moments, but it got dull fast.

Neither good nor bad
olcayozfirat27 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It is a 2019 Canadian horror movie. The movie is a mediocre slasher style. There are also paranormal elements in it that have not been clarified. There are many similar movies. Subject:

--- spoilers ---

There is a man who shoots videos by scaring his girlfriend on social media and has high views. The woman wants to have a child, but cannot. The doctor offers the woman a quiet life. Therefore, the man's door of bread is closing. They are invited to a friend's out-of-town churchyard for a quiet weekend. Strange things happen to them here. I wonder if the man continues the games, does the woman take revenge, is his friends trying to get them mad, or is it a different fiction?

This was great.
red-nevermore-smith30 December 2023
Was expecting something meh, but what I got was great. Okay the ending could have been better.

This was funny and creepy, well written well cast and all round very enjoyable.

For those saying it doesn't tie everything up, it does. The girls visions are explained at the start. If you need more than that then go watch some scream crap. This was clever and respected its audience loose ends can be surmised by thousands of horror films before it.

I will be rewatching this a few times.

Great characters too, cool style and great effects. Very enjoyable if you like the genre. I will be seeking out this filmmakers other work.

Lame
skullfactorydesigns1 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The commercial looked kind of fun, but don't let that fool you.

The characters weren't really likeable; the main couple seemed to even not like each other. So, it's kind of no big deal who lives and dies.

The David not being David twist was immediately apparent. And when the villain tried to be scary, he just sounded like a tool bag.

The pacing in this movie fell off after the first 15 minutes and never recovered.

The supernatural element was weird and irrelevant.

In terms of substance, this was a few steps back to the straight up torture p*rn of the early 2000s.

Better movies with similar concepts that automatically come to mind: Creep (2014), The Den (2013)

Off to a slow start, but the movie delivers
Cr0wgrrl1 February 2024
I was prepared to dislike this movie - I hate Internet pranksters, and had a really hard time relating either to someone who would make their living that way OR someone who would marry someone who made their living that way - aka the two main characters.

However, I stuck it out and I was very glad I did. After the movie's sluggish, obligatory scenes that tell us who the characters are and what their motivations are, the movie picks up steam, swerving into delightfully what-the-f territory that escalates quickly and very satisfyingly. The effects are great, and the shocks and scares deliver. You really start to care more about the characters, which makes what is happening all the more horrifying. Add in a great ending and it's a recipe for success. (And stick around for a quick mid-credits scene that gives just a little more insight into why things unfolded the way they did.)

Solid
haskel-729513 May 2021
Good plot (not incredibly original, but that's ok), solid performances, well directed. I liked this, and going in I thought it would be trash. Recommended for horror fans, others should already know better.

what's the deal with the ghosts
shlomo200027 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Can someone please explain the deal with the ghosts? Were they real or hallucinations from the drugs?

They were never really explained. Why did only the woman see them?

Really enjoyable, in your face horror
karencave-6276323 September 2021
Really enjoyed this. Horror on several levels... some genuine visual fights, also the fear of 'what the f--- is going on here?!' Pretty violent in places - not for the faint hearted. The woman in it was an amazing actor, very convincing.
