With actor Ray Stevenson's passing, it has been sad to imagine that we won't see more of him as the character he brought to life in Ahsoka. Luckily, as we come to the anniversary of that series, we have new information to enrich Baylan Skoll's story.
"More than his orange-colored lightsaber."
We knew from the start that Ahsoka was fixated on Grand Admiral Thrawn. Her appearance in The Mandalorian established this and fans of Star Wars Rebels could see it coming. The people standing in her way were the unknown factors as the show began to air on Disney+.
According to ScreenRant, author Moly Brizzell, "his Force alignment was never quite clear - particularly because he openly had an apprentice, with the braid designating her as a Padawan more than anything else." We now know more about Baylan thanks to an unlikely source. Game company EA is now remedying...

Justin Kurzel and Zack Baylin team up to create the American crime thriller The Order. The film is based on Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt’s 1989 nonfiction novel The Silent Brotherhood, which follows an FBI agent going after a white supremacist group called the Order. The gritty, intense, high-stakes action thriller stars Jude Law, Nicholas Hoult and Tye Sheridan. The Order played at the 2024 AFI Film Festival.
The Order Review
The Order is set in 1983 when an Idaho-based FBI agent follows a pattern of bank robberies, armored car heists, and counterfeiting operations terrorizing the Pacific Northwest. The agent sets out to prove that a radical leader named Bob Matthews is leading the charge, not a prototypical organized crime.
The heist-crime genre is by far one of my favorite movies. What Justin Kurzel captures within The Order is nothing short of spectacular. Several jaw-dropping moments throughout this film will haunt you because of the sheer,...

This December, Disney+ will finally release Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, another TV series set during the same post-Return of the Jedi period as The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.
Jude Law being cast as the mysterious Jod Na Nawood, a character widely believed to be a Jedi, has increased interest in the show and getting to head into a Galaxy Far, Far Away isn't a responsibility the British actor took lightly.
"I don’t think I would have dived in willy-nilly," he recently told Variety (via SFFGazette.com) of his meeting to discuss the project with Spider-Man franchise filmmaker Jon Watts. "I wanted it to be right. I didn’t want to be the guy that dropped the ball on 'Star Wars.'"
"It all has to go through the ‘Star Wars’ filter," Law added. "Like, there are no buttons in ‘Star Wars’ — only ties. Buckles? Yes. Velcro? Yes. Although, I...

The top-10 list adds to Disney’s efforts to make it easier for viewers to find the titles that they are most excited to watch.
The paralysis that you feel when you sign into a streaming service and can’t decide what you want to watch is real. Content discovery is one of the key focuses of nearly every platform on the market because the sooner cord-cutters can get viewers to the titles they are most interested in, the happier and more engaged those customers will be. To expedite that process, on Wednesday, Disney+ introduced a new carousel on its homepage called “Top 10 Today.” As the name suggests, the new row features the 10 most popular shows and movies on the platform every day. This way, if you are looking for the latest release or a hot new episode, it will be easier to find, but if you’re also unsure...

Hammer: Heroes, Legends, and Monsters is set to offer a unique tribute to legendary actor Peter Cushing, best known for his roles as Grand Moff Tarkin in George Lucas’ Star Wars. Having played roles like Van Helsing and Baron Frankenstein in Hammer Films’ Dracula and Frankenstein series, the documentary is set to deliver a special treat for fans and audiences.

Charles Dance, Tywin Lannister from Game of Thrones, will be narrating this documentary, which is produced by Deep Fusion Films, a company specializing in the use of artificial intelligence in film. Star Wars has many intriguing spin-offs of the movies, and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is building interest and suspense with every new detail released. The series created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford centers around four children, and their efforts to get home after an adventure lead them into parts unknown. It features Jude Law as a Force-using quick-thinker, but a recently released photo shows him doing some serious contemplation that has far-reaching implications.
Via ScreenRant, we have a glimpse of this significant Easter egg in a new photo from a new issue of Empire Magazine. In it, we can see Jude Law's Jod Na Nawood reading an inscription on a cavern wall. This is set "in Wild Space, a vast unexplored sector of space that includes the very outskirts of the galaxy." As negative reports have been coming in about the upcoming New Jedi Order film, many have wondered about the project's future. However, Daisy Ridley, who is set to return and star as Rey Skywalker, remains optimistic about the film.
It was reported last week that screenwriter Steven Knight has departed the film. Citing creative differences with Lucasfilm, the studio is searching for a new scribe. These kinds of creative changes are normal in filmmaking, especially early in the process. Still, the move left Star Wars fans nervous. Despite the writing change, the star of the upcoming movie, Ridley, has voiced her excitement.
Star Wars fans rejoiced when it was announced at the Star Wars Celebration in 2023 that the popular actress and character was set to return. Rey has had an overwhelmingly positive reaction from Star Wars faithful, including many younger girls who love to emulate the character.

According to a source named Puck News, The Mandalorian and Grogu have completed filming. Via Collider, this exciting news appears to be confirmed!
According to Collider, The Mandalorian and Grogu, Star Wars' first theatrical release since The Rise of Skywalker (2019) is on track for a May 2026 release. This is the kind of news fans have been waiting for, and it's highly probable that Lucasfilm will confirm it at D23 next month, which takes place in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is reportedly The Mandalorian's fourth season reworked into a movie; however, Lucasfilm hasn't officially confirmed this. Don't bet on them doing that anytime soon, as Dave Filoni hesitated to answer any questions about what the movie means for the show's future earlier in the year. This has left many fans hoping that the show will return with another season at some point, and Lucasfilm is hesitant to...

Star Wars has been in a weird place since The Rise of Skywalker completed the sequel trilogy back in 2019. On the big screen, Disney and Lucasfilm can't seem to get another project off the ground to save their life, with planned movies from Taika Waititi, Kevin Feige, Patty Jenkins, Rian Johnson and Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss all getting announced only to later be shelved. It's pretty embarassing to announce all these things only for all of them to fall through.
But on TV, the Star Wars universe has been popping. The Mandalorian, the first-ever live-action Star Wars TV show, debuted in 2019, the same year we last had a big screen outing, and has been going strong for three seasons now. And we've also gotten Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, The Acolyte, Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi, not to mention animated series like The Bad Batch.

Several industry groups have sued the Federal Trade Commission to try and keep it from enforcing new regulations.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) hasn’t made any friends in the cable or streaming industries with its new “Click to Cancel” rule. The regulation would force companies that provide subscription services to make it easier for customers to cancel their accounts, and now several of the largest groups representing cablers and streaming operators are suing the FTC to try and keep the rule from being enforced.
Key Details: The “Click to Cancel” rule was approved by the FTC in mid-October. The industry groups are calling the rule “arbitrary, capricious, and an abuse of discretion.” Enforcement of the rule could hinge on the outcome of the upcoming election. Sign Up Now $9.99+ / month disneyplus.com

Some people are just defined by the genre they perform in. Scott Bakula and William Shatner fit that description to a "T." They're synonymous with the world of sci-fi, and they're not the only ones. Famous names like Sigourney Weaver, Mark Hamil, and others have the careers they do, in part, due to their appreciation for sci-fi.
Another name that belongs with the Bakula's of the world is that of Katee Sackhoff. Most known recently for Star Wars, where she played Bo-Katan Kryze, she rose to fame with her involvement with the 2004 remake of Battlestar Galactica.
She played a gender-swapped version of Starbuck, now known as Kara Thrace (previously just Starbuck). She added depth, intrigue and uniquness to the role that the original character lacked. Being a byproduct of the 1970s, all the original Starbuck did was smoke, womanize and fight Cylons. Thanks to Sackhoff, the new Starbuck was a much deeper character.

Disney's handling of the Star Wars franchise is a bit of a mess right now. From cancelations to delays, it feels like Lucasfilm doesn't know what it's doing with the one surefire franchise.
Creative differences have led to multiple TV shows and movies getting scrapped or canceled. And now the latest movie impacted is the previously announced Star Wars film that was focused on Daisy Ridley's Rey Skywalker.
The movie hasn't been canceled, but it did hit a road bump this week with the departure of writer Steven Knight. The Peaky Blinders creator was tapped to write the movie following the departure of Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson who stepped away when their vision clashed with Kennedy's.
As of right now, the studio is in talks with other writers, but it's unclear how far along those talks are right now. Ultimately, what this does mean is that production on...

Another new “Star Wars” project has collided with some space debris.
Writer Steven Knight, whose “Maria” looks to be a major contender this awards season, is no longer writing the new “Star Wars” movie that would be centered around Rey (Daisy Ridley) and set after the events of 2019’s much maligned “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” Still, we were assured that the film is still very much in development.
Knight joined the project in 2023, replacing screenwriters Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. The story is rumored to focus on Rey’s attempts at starting a new Jedi Academy. (Lindelof and Britt-Gibson’s supposedly featured Rey as a 60-year-old woman.) At the time that Lindelof and Britt-Gibson were replaced, filming was intended to begin in early 2024.
That did not happen. Instead, “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” a feature-film version of the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian,” began filming in 2024, for release in the...

Star Wars: The Force Awakens left fans with many unanswered questions, and filmmaker Rian Johnson's decision to turn many of J.J. Abrams' ideas on their head caused a lot of problems.
Abrams' attempt to course correct The Last Jedi with The Rise of Skywalker - Rey's parents went from somebodies to nobodies to...Emperor Palpatine?! - also didn't stick the landing.
The closest we've come to filling in the gaps between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, meanwhile, are Disney+ TV shows like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka. Even then, they're sticking closer to Episode VI than Episode VII.
Well, as we first reported on SFFGazette.com, we'll finally learn more about some of the gaps in Kylo Ren's past (and how Darth Vader connects to his transformation into Supreme Leader) with a new Star Wars: Legacy of Vader comic book from Marvel.

There is another disturbance in the Force. Screenwriter Steven Knight has departed the “Star Wars” movie set to follow Daisy Ridley’s Rey after the events of 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”
In March 2023, Variety exclusively reported that Knight had signed onto the project, replacing original screenwriters Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. Lucasfilm is actively talking with potential writers to take on the story, which has been said to chronicle Rey’s efforts to start a new Jedi Academy, but the delay likely means production won’t start until well into 2025 at least.
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still attached to direct the film, which would be her feature debut; she previously directed episodes of the Disney+ series “Ms. Marvel” after twice winning the Oscar for best documentary short film. While discussing her latest documentary about designer Diane von Furstenberg, which premiered on Hulu in June, Obaid-Chinoy told Variety that...

With The Mandalorian And Grogu still over a year away, a look at some of the Star Wars films Lucasfilm hasn’t made since 2019.
The release of 2015’s The Force Awakens sparked the beginning of a frenzied five years for the Star Wars franchise. It was a period that saw a new film in the series released annually, with numbered sequels interspersed with the spin-offs Rogue One (2016) and Solo (2018). Then 2019 happened, and things went rather quiet.
One problem, for Disney-owned production company Lucasfilm, was that 2019’s The Rise Of Skywalker barely made a billion dollars in cinemas – only half of what The Force Awakens had made four years earlier. The other problem was that Solo: A Star Wars Story, which cost somewhere around $270m to make, only made $400m.
Those declining numbers appeared to give Lucasfilm pause, because it’s spent the years since announcing or hyping future Star Wars movies,...

The moment that Marvel Studios made the decision to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe through multiple different streaming shows on the Disney Plus platform, it became an opportunity to showcase some of the McU's most beloved - and underappreciated - characters. Clearly, Marvel felt the same way as fan-favorites like Wanda Maximoff, Vision, Bucky Barnes, Sam Wilson, Hawkeye and Nick Fury all got their chances to shine. And yes, of course, Loki did too.
Tom Hiddleston reprised his role as the McU's nefarious trickster in Loki, a story about the God of Mischief's attempts to protect the sacred timeline from major threats. The first season was good, but the second was amazing; featuring Loki and the Time Variance Authority attempting to stop the Temporal Loom from exploding.
Since the show ended, however, there have been very little updates regarding Loki, the show, or if it will be widely available...

Empire Magazine has been giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at Star Wars' upcoming live-action series, Skeleton Crew.
Via ScreenRant, Empire has confirmed that Skeleton Crew is "set concurrently with The Mandalorian and Ahsoka." Earlier, rumors suggested the show was set sometime during The Mandalorian Season 1, but taking place concurrently with Season 3 and Ahsoka makes more sense and opens the door to cameos from characters within the timeline.

Good news, physical media fans! Disney is giving more of its Disney+ exclusive shows 4K Ultra HD releases later this year. Netflix started the whole "You can only get this movie or TV show here" thing in the streaming world, which is why creators like Mike Flanagan don't mind if people pirate certain Netflix shows or movies. Other companies have been, very thankfully, breaking that trend. Disney is now bringing "The Mandalorian" season 3, "Ahsoka" season 1, "Hawkeye" season 1, and "Loki" season 2 to a shelf near you in December. Plan accordingly.
These "Star Wars" and Marvel Studios shows will come with brand new steelbook packaging, which you can check out below. Each release also includes exclusive concept art cards and never-before-seen bonus content. This trend started late last year when Disney gave "Loki" season 1, "WandaVision," and "The Mandalorian" seasons 1 and 2 steelbook releases. Apparently, that went well enough for the trend to continue.

Filming for Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi will begin soon. The upcoming prequel, set earlier in the timeline than any other film in the franchise, will be directed by James Mangold, who co-wrote the script with Beau Willimon (known for Andor and House of Cards).
Mangold has been nominated for two Academy Awards: one for writing Logan (2017) and another as a producer on Ford v. Ferrari, which was nominated for Best Picture. His other notable works include The Wolverine and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
According to Empire (via World of Reel and ScreenRant), Mangold mentioned in an interview for his Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, starring Timothée Chalamet, that once that project wraps—already drawing Oscar buzz—he’ll begin shooting Dawn of the Jedi. Filming could potentially start by late 2025.

Prior to being synonymous with MCU, Samuel L. Jackson happened to be a staple of the Star Wars universe. Playing the role of Jedi master Mace Windu in all three Star Wars Prequel Trilogy films, Jackson faced his character’s death in 2005’s Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, after confronting Palpatine.

Samuel L. Jackson has once again insisted his 'Star Wars' character Mace Windu is still alive. The Jedi Master was seemingly thrown to his death in the 2005 film 'Revenge of the Sith' following a fierce duel with Darth Sidious (Ian McDiarmid) but the 75-year-old actor has now argued Windu is still "out there" and joked the hero was living out the rest of his days with Jackson's 'Pulp Fiction' character Jules Winnfield.During a recent appearance on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon', the actor told the host: "There's a history alone, history of one-armed, one-handed people in the 'Star Wars' universe. "So, just cause they cut my arm off and I fell out a window, doesn't mean I'm dead. I'm a Jedi! The second-most powerful Jedi in the universe next to Yoda. So, I can float!"Yeah, he's out there. Yeah, he's out there walking the Earth with Jules.

Both Lucasfilm's Star Wars franchise and Marvel Studios' Marvel Cinematic Universe film series have somewhat struggled to maintain their previous levels of success outside of their original stories. While the MCU began to hit a bit of a wall with certain titles after the Infinity Saga concluded, that galaxy so far, far away ended up doing the same towards the conclusion of its Skywalker Saga.
The arrival of the Disney Plus streaming service (and the subsequent shows produced for both franchises to stream on it) has run the risk of watering both franchises down a little bit, but the issues were noticeable on the big screen too, with both Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios taking some steps to course-correct.

Star Wars fans have been blessed with various new content over the past few years. After Disney+'s launch, live-action Star Wars series have graced our TV screens almost continuously since the release of The Mandalorian in 2019.
Recently, fans have scrutinized the Mandoverse, with many agreeing that this era has overstayed its welcome. MovieWeb thoroughly analyzed this issue from every angle and raised several valid points about where Lucasfilm creatives, including Dave Filoni, have made mistakes in handling the Mandoverse.

Some fans dislike Dave Filoni and much of what he's done in Star Wars. Fair or unfair, this is one of the realities of being a Star Wars storyteller. Filoni has ruffled some feathers with his creative decisions, including retconning events in canon Star Wars novels. Regardless, most of us would be lying if we said we weren't...

Formerly, customers could add Disney+ to their Hulu account for an extra $2 per month.
Customers curious about Disney+ now have fewer choices to sign up for the service. Previously, Disney allowed new subscribers to sign up for a Disney+ subscription as an add-on to Hulu, as they can do with ESPN+, Max, and other streamers in order to keep their bills all in one place and take advantage of discounts. However, the House of Mouse has begun informing customers that they can no longer purchase Disney+ as a Hulu add-on, instead pushing users to one of the Disney Bundle options instead.
Key Details: Formerly, Disney+ could be added to Hulu for an extra $2 per month. Customers are now encouraged to sign up for the Disney Duo Basic bundle for $11 per month. Viewers who had the Disney+ add-on via Hulu are being updated to the Duo Basic plan at no additional cost.

As an avowed defender of the Ewok films, regular /Film readers shouldn't be surprised to see yours truly's byline on this article. The two TV movies about the teddy bear-like inhabitants of the forest moon of Endor made by Lucasfilm in the 1980s -- 1984's "Caravan of Courage: The Ewok Adventure" and 1985's "Ewoks: The Battle for Endor" -- may no longer be canon to the "Star Wars" franchise under the watchful eyes of Mickey Mouse and friends, yet their pulpy sci-fi/fantasy adventure ethos has continued to manifest itself in the property, most recently with "The Mandalorian" season 3. Now, it appears at least one element of the Ewok films is about to become canonical thanks to "Skeleton Crew," the upcoming "Goonies"-esque "Star Wars" series that, similar to "Caravan of Courage" and "The Battle for Endor," follows a group of youngsters in over their heads on a most unexpected adventure.

Apple takes a hefty commission off subscriptions sold through its devices, and Disney doesn’t want to pay any longer.
Disney is looking to cut out the middleman when it comes to its streaming services… or at least one especially greedy middleman. The company is no longer allowing new and returning customers to sign up for Disney+, Hulu, or ESPN+ through Apple, which will save the House of Mouse from paying a commission on each subscription. Of course, customers can still sign up directly through Disney and stream the services on their Apple TV streaming players or other iOS devices, but they just won’t be able to pay and manage their subscription through Apple.

Sci-fi fans will certainly know the name of Katee Sackhoff, a very popular television actress who has appeared in numerous roles in sci-fi series, both in live-action and animated formats.
Most recently, fans could see her as Bo-Katan Kryze in The Mandalorian, a hit series that is a spin-off from the Star Wars franchise.
But, her roles are numerous. Older fans will probably remember her from Battlestar Galactica, where she played Lieutenant Kara “Starbuck” Thrace, and she has also appeared in numerous voice roles in DC’s projects, like Batman: The Long Halloween or Watchmen. She also appeared in The Flash, Futurama, Star Wars: Rebels, and others.
Yet, there is one major franchise Sackhoff still hasn’t appeared in – Star Trek – and in a recent interview, the actress was asked whether she would actually like to join the franchise in some capacity. If you want to know what the actress said about the proposal,...

In recent years, more extraneous parts of Star Wars lore have been welcomed back into the saga’s main continuity. Shows like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka have been a treasure-trove of references to lesser-explored areas of the galaxy’s mythos, whether it’s the live-action debuts of Krrsantan and Grand Admiral Thrawn, a glimpse of the Mythosaur, or the arrival of the Dark Troopers. But one part of Star Wars history that isn’t considered canon anymore – and so far hasn't been welcomed back in – is the pair of Ewok movies, Caravan Of Courage and The Battle For Endor. The two made-for-tv films were released in the mid-‘80s, and now have a home on Disney+, even if they’re not part of the official story these days. But if you have a soft spot for Wicket's adventures, buckle up: one species from The Battle For Endor is about to make a comeback.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard any updates on Gina Carano’s lawsuit against Disney—or her life in general. You might recall that the former Mma fighter-turned-actress was let go by Disney after posting offensive and discriminatory comments on social media that targeted the LGBTQ+ community—something Disney understandably couldn’t tolerate.

In response, she filed a lawsuit against Disney, seeking $75,000 in damages and a court order to be rehired.
If you thought the drama had settled down due to the recent quiet, think again. Carano has now shared an update with her followers, confirming that her case will officially go to trial late next year.
In short, Gina Carano was cast as Cara Dune in The Mandalorian, a role...
