Tubi’s slate for May runs the gamut of sci-fi fare, beloved comedies and thrillers.

There’s “Interstellar” and the David Lynch version of “Dune,” as well as “But I’m a Cheerleader” starring two of the biggest television leads at the moment, Natasha Lyonne and Melanie Lynskey. Viewers can also find musical films like “The Wiz” and “Dreamgirls” and dramas like “The Eternal Daughter” and “C’mon C’mon.” Horror titles include “28 Weeks Later,” for those trying to catch up on the zombie trilogy before this year’s “28 Years Later,” and “Barbarian.”

Tubi additionally has three new original films in its catalogue this month.

It doesn't feel like all that long ago we were getting ready for a "Hellboy" reboot from director Neil Marshall ("The Descent") with David Harbour, of "Stranger Things" fame, in the title role. Harbour looked great, the cast had a lot of promise, and yet, the film flopped spectacularly when it debuted in 2019 both critically and commercially. Be that as it may, Millennium Media is going to give it another try with an R-rated, horror-skewing take on the Dark Horse Comics character in the form of "Hellboy: The Crooked Man." And, for better or worse, it seems very much like it's going to be a lower budget affair, particularly as comic-book movies go.

There’s a new Hellboy in town. Actor Jack Kesy will dawn the red makeup for The Crooked Man, Millennium Media’s new take on the comic book antihero.

Crooked Man is set in the 1950s and finds Hellboy stranded in rural Appalachia. Hellboy and a rookie agent at Bprd (the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, which is central to the Hellboy mythos) discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man.

Brian Taylor, who co-directed the 2006 Jason Statham feature Crank, is at the helm. Hellboy comic book creator Mike Mignola penned the script with Chris Golden. Millennium is partnering with German film and TV distributor Telepool on the project, the first in a planned slate of co-productions.

Kesy has had smaller roles in high-profile features such as Deadpool 2 and Michael B. Jordan’s Without Remorse.

“Reacher” breakout star Alan Ritchson is in talks to join “Fast X,” the 10th installment of the “Fast and Furious” franchise, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.

The film will open in theaters May 19, 2023. The film recently kicked off production.

Louis Letterier is set to direct, replacing Justin Lin, who departed the project.

Exclusive: Fast X, the 10th installment in the Fast and Furious franchise, looks to have rounded out its all-star cast with Alan Ritchson, the breakout star of the new Jack Reacher series from Amazon Prime Video. Ritchson joins as the pic just set Louis Letterier to replace Justin Lin as director. The film is in production with Vin Diesel and the core Fast cast returning alongside franchise newcomers Jason Momoa and Brie Larson.

Even with new titles on VOD and streaming charts, the Oscar nominations may shake things up. Netflix received 35 total nominations among 14 titles, providing an unprecedented chance to see how many titles return to charts. The two top performers to date have been “Hillbilly Elegy” and “The Midnight Sky.” Nomination leader (with 10) “Mank” barely caused a wrinkle on the charts, placing tenth for a single day when it was released.

Lionsgate’s Grindstone Entertainment Group has acquired the North American rights to Cicada 3301. The comedy-thriller marks the feature directorial debut of Alan Ritchson, who co-wrote the script with Joshua Montcalm. Lionsgate Home Entertainment is set to distribute the film digitally across multiple platforms on a to-be-determined date.

According to the official synopsis, Cicada 3301 follows disenfranchised hacker savant, Connor Black (Jack Kesy), his affable best friend, Avi Berkowitz (Ron Funches) and a cunning librarian (Conor Leslie), who find themselves over their heads when forced to compete in a sophisticated dark web secret society’s global recruitment game. Ritchson also stars in the film as the inept antagonist Nsa Agent Carver along with industry veteran Andreas Apergis (Riddick).

“I’ve been a fan of Alan’s acting for a long time, and now, after seeing Cicada 3301, I’m equally impressed by his chops as a director,” said Grindstone Entertainment Group’s Ryan Black.
