Watanabe loves music, and so do we
taiyenkim9524 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I've watched 22 episodes so far. There's only two left in the series, an average Watanabe length anime (Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo were 26), and I can safely say it's been a great ride and I can't wait to see the ending. Studio Bones provides some awesome rotoscoping animation for the instruments and music performances. The show's multigenre music is impressive, and if any of the music is boring to you.. well that's the point in some cases. The idea is that in this futuristic Mars, musicians use AIs to write and compose music. Carole and Tuesday write lovely harmonies without AIs that are honest and innocent. The music written for the show is impressive, we have musical guest stars like Flying Lotus and Thundercat, and EVENTUALLY Denzel Curry who provides some incredible rap verses. The character's are well developed and all have a role in providing a social commentary on the music industry, and the show near the end gets darkly political, and Watanabe uses this subplot to remind the viewers that music is universal and emotional. If you love music, Watanabe, and a touch of sci-fi, you're going to enjoy this show

A Musical Slice of Life
Migaish10 September 2019
Yes you can pan it off as simple and boring, but characters are endearing, the music is soulful and in true Watanabe style, everything is not as is it seems. Btw this whole show takes place in the future on Mars and gingerly incorporates that into the backdrop of the story, never shoving it in your face but allowing you to admire it from a far. Overall, this is a soulful, funny and endearing show that always catches you off guard in true Watanabe style!

It's the Journey, not the Destination
Jamejarrs17 November 2020
Carole & Tuesday does a great job getting you to care about all of its characters and feel genuine concern when things don't go their way. Throughout the anime's run, I was genuinely invested in where the characters were going to end up, how they would make it through road blocks, and felt disheartened when things didn't go their way.

This anime tackles some subject matter that I can't say I've seen in others, which makes it stand out as very modern. While I applaud Carole & Tuesday for even attempting to breach these topics, I feel like its ambition got in the way of it being able to reach a meaningful conclusion. Things like immigration, government corruption, and police brutality hardly have a neat solution in real life, so it's easy to see how their inclusion might mean the ending isn't as fulfilling as it could have been; things wrap up way too quickly and neatly here to feel meaningful.

Despite my feelings toward the anime's ending, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Carole & Tuesday. It has nice animation, great and catchy music, and a well-rounded cast that makes it easy to recommend to anyone.

Awesome original anime
ikandyofthesharingan12 June 2019
This anime is from the director of cowboy bebop and samurai champloo, so I watch this with high expectations. Although it may appear to be more slow with its slice of life tone in a futuristic world. For a sci fi anime, the story is easy to follow. Its about two girls who share a love through music. They write and create their own music in a world where A.I. created music is the norm. They go through a music competition and more characters are introduced. Almost paroding America's got Talent with its unique and comical characters. Unlike most idol anime, there's no cheesy fan service and the animation is fluid. The soundtrack is phenomenal and attracts its western audience with its English songs in different genres of music.

Heartwarming anime with soul
michaelusvensson31 August 2019
I've watched almost every good movie and series out there, Anime or otherwise. But I have never before been compelled to write an review here on imdb like I have after I watched Carole and Tuesday today. To be honest I couldn't stop watching this because it was so good and when I say good is the emotions in the voice actors and in the people that have worked with this show, you can really feel it, it's not about the story or the animation. Its about something else, Its about a spark that just really shows how much effort and joy they have put into making this anime. To be honest it made me feel good! It had energy! I really enjoyed this more than I have enjoyed any other series for a very long time. I laughed and I cried while watching these episodes which is not something I have done in a long time. You should watch this if you haven't already I would recommend it to anyone. I'm not promising a revolutionary masterpiece, only that it's entertaining and will make you fell good and to be honest, isn't that what it's all about?

Adorable

Sure they have some of the usual girls make it big story, but the story is so much more lovely and sweet than that. I genuinely adore this anime and am happy for the change of pace.

Great Soundtrack and Heartwarming Message
Chloe-h199428 January 2020
There are some truly touching songs on the Carole and Tuesday soundtracks - I love Loneliest Girl and Lay It All On Me. However, despite the truly stellar soundtrack, I found the story fell a bit short of a home run. Each episode in the first season seemed like it was trying to do a stand alone episode which led to a disjointed middle. The second season started to have a more overarching story but it still felt a little like a show that didn't know what exactly it wanted to be. Themes and characters where introduced never to be heard from again or just popping in again once or twice for a performance or two. It was hard to feel the emotional resonance of these brief appearances even though I knew what I was supposed to be feeling. The soundtrack patched many of the plot holes - providing the emotional oomph that was lacking. Many character relationships were left unresolved completely. It's worth a watch for the soundtrack and the heartwarming message but its not perfect.

Cute anime with flaws
Bright000115 August 2021
It's a cute little anime which does entertain overall, but is nowhere near perfect. Most of the music and singing felt somewhat "flat" (any random deadmau5 song is more of a banger than what the "best DJ on Mars" produces), and of course Netflix had to jam in a big spoon of wokeness an lgbt stuff into it as well.

If you have a subscription and you're bored its watchable; Don't bother otherwise.

Carole and Tuesday is a Masterpiece.
fablejoeygaming5 January 2020
Pure Bliss. 2 of my favorite things on the whole planet... are anime, and music. If your ever looking for an absolutely perfect blend of the 2.... Carole And Tuesday might just be one of the best anime to come out in years.

Shinchiro Watanabe had a huge part to do with this show, as he was the supervising director. Although quite subtle in some areas, you can definitely see the Watanabe style throughout the show, from the direction. The editing of characters movements, and even some of the hairstyles are easily Watanabe styled.

Carole and Tuesday is unbelievable in more ways then just having one of my favorite OST's in anime ever. The animation is absolutely stunning, which is a stupendously important thing to get right, especially when animating mouths when singing, and hands when playing instruments like piano and guitar. Although sometimes the vocals being sung don't perfectly match the characters mouth's it's not distracting whatsoever because your so unbelievably invested in the music.

Let's get the score out of the way right now. Carole and Tuesday easily has one of the most heartfelt and truly beautiful scores in all of anime. It helps that our 2 main protagonist's have completely angelic vocals and delivery in the songs that they sing. Carole And Tuesday perfectly captures my thoughts on music as a whole, and even the music industry today. Carole And Tuesday's songs are easily the greatest part of the show. Some of my favorite lyrics in really any duet performed in anything ever. Carole and Tuesday's OST is of course brilliant and stands out from any other anime in the last couple years, just from it's uniqueness alone. But when the characters Carole And Tuesday perform together, it is just as exciting and wonderful as any action sequence, or drama filled moment from an anime. In fact in some ways I'd say there songs that they perform are even better than those things. Whenever they sung together, they always had my full attention. I could hardly even blink while watching these scenes because I was worried I'd miss a beautiful movement of animation. Carole and Tuesday's vocals are only defined by one word for me... and that's angelic. The voices are so different and unique, yet they work together so perfectly. Not only is every song well written, and performed, but almost every performance of theirs in the show brought me to tears.

Since the whole show is based around music, Carole And Tuesday arent the only ones who perform their music. The show has multiple artists, who all have wonderfully written and performed songs, that really elevate every element of the show. The music in this series is just fantastic, never a single dull moment from anyone here, truly mesmerizing. And I truly hope you give your full attention to Carole And Tuesday whenever they perform, let their songs touch you, and I promise they'll hit hard.

But an OST alone doesn't completely carry a show... but in this case is doesn't need to. Because Carole and Tuesday are just stupidly loveable. Carole is such a well written character, and I'm sure anyone who's had similar experiences to her will be able to get insanely invested in her character. She's so fantastically realized, and really keeps the show fresh and fun. And then there's Tuesday. Tuesday and Carole, are 2 totally different characters, yet they have a bond together that is undescribable. Leave it to Watanabe to make 2 crazily different characters, have one of the most emotionally investing relationships in anime. Tuesday is just perfect, her character has flaws of course, yet she's just so loveable, and selfless. She's truly a character that I could relate to completely, and both Carole and Tuesday's have become some of my favorite characters in anime of recent years!!! They have more chemistry than any real 2 people have when singing together in real life. I feel like an Anime is a perfect way to do a story like this because it is hard to express with "real life" emotions. Carole and Tuesday are fantastic, and so is there supporting cast.

Everyone in this show grows on you. Even characters you might really dislike, you end up smiling when you see them on screen... which is really saying something. Roddy and Gus are especially charming and by the end of the show I really ended up loving both their characters. The supporting cast is wonderful, but even so Carole And Tuesday carry the show completely on their shoulders.

Carole and Tuesday like I said perfectly captures my feelings on modern music, which is something I never expected. A lot of the music throughout the show is said to be created with complete AI. Which is basically meaning nothing is ever done by solely the artists alone, and everything is done by computers. Basically it shows that anyone with the right technology could make music. But when the music isn't written by the person who performs it, or even when the person singing has so much help from artificial means that they truly wouldn't be anything without it... their music feels soulless.

So in a world where everyone surrounding them uses AI or Artificial means to create their music and probably wouldn't be any good without it... you have 2 girls, Carole And Tuesday, who write and perform their own songs on their own, without needing any help from artificial means. No auto tune, no separate band... just 2 girls one playing the piano, one playing guitar, and them both singing. There's something undeniably beautiful about the way Carole and Tuesday make their music, and I think it's definitely an important message to take with you even after the curtain rolls.

The only real issue I have with the show revolves around a single character, and really isn't much when looking at the show as a whole, but I still thought I'd mention it. The "antagonist" of sorts to the show Angela, was really quite irritating. And I understand that being the point with an antagonist but for me at least, she took up a whole lot more time than she needed to within the show. And even by the end I still wasn't totally invested in her character. She's certainly an antagonist so it makes sense that she's unlikable, but I just found that every time she was on screen I couldn't help but wish to see Carole and Tuesday again, because quite frankly I really disliked her character, and the way in which her music is made. But in the end, one character that I didnt necessarily love, and even slightly began to tolerate doesnt bring down such a powerful show.

Carole and Tuesday isn't just an Anime about music... it's a beautifully written story about 2 girls and their journey with music in a world where everyone seems to be doing things differently than them. Carole and Tuesday is amazing. The music is unbelievably, and insanely touching. The vocal performances in the Dubbed version of the show are 2 of my favorites ever. Carole and Tuesday has a brilliant message, and it's one I won't forget any time soon. This show is something else... and I enjoyed it more than I ever could have imagined I would.

Rating: 10/10

In one of their songs they sing elegantly "There's nothing wrong with Happy Endings", and I have to say I agree wholeheartedly.

Mild musical slice of life. and political BS
jferwc16 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The history is simples yet catch your atention, judging by the director previous works i expected more, but the main problem in my point of view was the forced political agenda of the last episodes, After the candidate to the presidance of Mars express her desire to make stronger imigration policies and supossedly a kind of artistic sensorship those things start to happen in the main plot... how the "insert F word" a candidate has the power to make rules and laws befor get elected? too much political bs in a already ordinary narrative.

This show is a masterpiece pure and simple. Great story, Great characters, fantastic music I've never been so entertained by an anime from start to finish. The show had the right elements of every kind of anime you can think off. The last 7 minutes alone of the series is some of the most beautiful use of music I have ever heard, it's truly is a miracle of a show that I'm glad I witnessed. Mother Mother Mother, it's a masterpiece indeed.

Just finished watching season 2 and I was not disappointed. Don't watch it if you're a hardcore right-wing, you will probably not like it. Great to see Netflix producing this sort of series, it shows they're not afraid. They aren't only money makers; they seem to have a soul also. Bravo.

Two dissimilar characters
Mysterygeneration17 January 2024
Shinchiro Watanabe, a director of over three decades of experience, steps up to the screen for a brand-new original anime project. Cowboy Bebop by Shinchiro Watanabe is well renowned for its ability to draw a global audience and achieve success on all continents. Although Carole and Tuesday won't probably be as successful, the idea is still worth considering. With the dearth of two-course music dramas these days, Carole & Tuesday seems like a welcome change of pace.

Tuesday and Carole are two dissimilar characters with dissimilar histories and dispositions. Tuesday is a more innocent and feminine character, while Carole is an orphan with a rebellious attitude. They are both easily accessible in society because they exhibit relevant qualities and realism. Carole works two jobs, one part-time, and Tuesday is a shy rich girl who can sing and play guitar.

Two young girls named Carole and Tuesday are at the center of the narrative; they have the capacity to realize their goals. They exhibit incredible potential in their disciplines, even though they lack professional experience. Their character chemistry is remarkably compatible despite their dissimilar personalities and appearances. They gain confidence as they make their way through the music business, cultivate a loyal fan base, and market themselves as international superstars. Even though they are inexperienced, they overcome obstacles in the adult world by bonding and building trust via their passion of music.

Two anime characters named Carole and Tuesday go through character development as a result of challenges including harassment and rivalry. Carole becomes a more responsible adult, and Tuesday becomes more self-assured. This anime emphasizes how difficult it is for young girls to make decisions and how crucial it is to understand how those decisions will affect their life.

Angela Carpenter, a former child model, is attempting to establish herself in the cutthroat music entertainment industry. She displays charisma and commitment, and her strong sense of self-confidence and talent make her an enigma for the main characters. Even though Angela made fun of Tuesday and Carole during a competition, she doesn't regard them as friends or equals. The path of the anime's heroes is portrayed by this realistic character.

While characters like Cybelle, Dahlia, Tao, and judges aren't given as much attention as they should, the anime emphasizes the significance of characters like Gus Goldman and Flora in the lives of Carole and Tuesday. The F-bombing performance by the Mermaid Sisters is a noteworthy highlight of the event, but other aspects aren't given as much attention.

The show Carole & Tuesday has a recurring soundtrack with a variety of songs and performances. There are twenty tunes on the first album, "Kiss Me" being one of my favorites. Character performances highlight exceptional talent, syncing choreography and visual components to enhance each other's strengths. The 24 episodes of the show feature a range of acts and subjects.

An anime called Carole & Tuesday, which combines comedy, drama, and joy, perfectly embodies the essence of the music industry. Tuesday and Carole are a passionate duo that find common ground in their shared love of music. The program empowers people and changes lives while providing a distinctive viewpoint on music.

More than a music show
wlatca-7066626 September 2021
When I starter watching this series I wasn't expecting nothing more than convincing animation and charming characters, It seems like a trade mark of anime by Shinichiro Watanabe . I truly didn't expect the direction it would go or whether it will have anything to say that could make it anything more than another eye candy show. I must admit that the final makes it all really even more worth going through as it is inspiring and super heartwarming! Greetings from Poland where the freedom of media is something you need to fight for!

Annoying stereotypes of young women.
sadie-mck9 October 2019
This is why I don't watch Japanese anime. They have one dimensional characters that we have seen before. The innocent wide eyed Japanese girl who is unwordly and feminine. The black girl who is a tomboy, breaks the law, is mistaken for a prostitute and is streetwise and cheeky. The animation and soundtrack are adequate. Nothing to write home about. I won't be watching any further episodes. I've seen enough of this uninspiring run of the mill show.

Great show but could be better
mpmmie-441344 January 2020
The show is great. I love the futuristic aspect and the story of the two characters becoming musical artists. I'm disappointed on season 2 and how the team handled race. They had black characters in stereotypical black roles and you can see a bunch of micro aggressions towards these black characters. In 2020 this is unacceptable. Still a good show but they do have room to improve.

An incredibly moving series
teagantomasello2 April 2021
Carole and Tuesday was something I initially skimmed over on Netflix. After browsing for good animes to watch, this popped up. After reading reviews on here I gave it a shot, and wow. It was a truly incredible series.

It starts up a little quirky, but the heart and soul between Carole and Tuesday feels so real. Their music they make together and their ambition is so inspiring to watch. I know it's an anime, but the emotions it evokes are very real. The songs are all fantastic and fun, and the artwork is beautiful. The relationships built and the way the rise is amazing.

If you want a heartwarming series, and something that will truly move you watch this. It was so so so worth it. I binge watched the whole series.
