Much better than the Dreamworks adaptation
Stenian8 August 2021
I'm a nonbeliever and I enjoy a few biblical stories. Except, this one has to be my favourite bible story by far because, unlike many other biblical stories, it has the most familiar structure of a fiction story and it fits as a novella under the genres of historical fantasy. This film just brings the Joseph story to life with its gorgeous animation, engaging score and decent voice acting.

I was choking up a few times towards the end of the film. The beautiful Middle Eastern music really helped with those sentimental scenes at the end of the film, and it overall captured the Egyptian mood of the film.

It was far better than the Dreamworks animation version (Joseph: King of Dreams) as it lacked the annoying musical aspect. This film was also much more mature compared to the 2000 adaptation, which was way too Disney-ish and juvenile.

It is extremely underrated and overlooked. Should've had a limited theatrical release. Should've at least gotten some more attention. But by the 2010s, biblical movies lost a lot of popularity either way.

LOOOVED IT!!! Best told TRUE story of Joseph (with the exception of The Holy Bible!)!

I've read the Bible scripture of Joseph's life (Genesis 37-50), seen "Joseph: King of Dreams" (2000 Anime/Adv/Fam movie), as well as watched/heard other people explain his life, but I was still not completely clear on everything he went through. "Joseph: Beloved Son, Rejected Slave, Exalted Ruler", was the BEST rendition ever! It explained his life SO CLEARLY, at a very good pace (never too slow or too fast), and without loud, distracting music! It was SO well and tastefully done!

*NOTE: "Stenian's" review was very well written, EXCEPT that it is NOT fiction! If you do the research (seek) you will find ample evidence inside and outside The Holy Bible that it is the TRUE, inspired Word of God.

Better than expected

I found this while scrolling through the Pure Flix catalog. I only do free trials with them because I'm a masochistic blasphemer. Anyway, I put this on with the intent of not paying it much attention while I did something else. But I found myself engaged with the little ditty. Voice acting was good, animation so-so (some of Jacob's expressions border on dirty old man levels), and I'm assuming it followed the story right. I dunno but I'd advise parents because there's a few questionable themes, like the Great Royal Wife lusting after (and then playing Me Too against) Joseph, and the behaviors exhibited by Joseph's brothers. Decent watch. 2.5/5.

well crafted

A generous story, beautiful animation and noble message. Maybe not the expected film but a well crafted one, proposing interesting perspective about familiar events. Not exactly storytelling but remember of a life containing the main tools defining our life. Beautiful in many aspects.
