This movie could have been great but there were too many plot holes. So humanity asked for help from aliens and finally got a response because the earth is dying and humanity is pretty much going extinct. So they are choosing who to save through this selection process via a matrix style program. The only way to be selected to be saved is to be the last survivor. This makes no sense. If humanity is being rescued then why are these beings forcing them to kill each other to be the last person standing. Your forcing an already endangered species to kill each other to survive?! So you're saving killers, the selfish, and the lucky? To end up back at square one because isn't that how earth got into this predicament?! Terrible premise. They also didn't stand a fair chance if they were basing this on surviving in the wilderness. They never explained what the main character saw as a little girl in the beginning either.

Eight contestants are placed on an island for a survival contest. We can guess Carol (Catarina Mira ) is the final girl because she is the only person with a childhood glimpse. While on the island, one of the contestants starts to shoot people with a bow. Then we see an alien spacecraft as Paris is blown up.
The plots fails as pointed out by one of the contestants, but just go with it. The characters could have been more entertaining.

I was really looking forward to seeing this movie. I am Portuguese and I was excited that this was a Portuguese movie made. But.. oh my God, I really can't even express my disappointment.. poorly made, the story makes no sense, there's zero character development, almost zero explanation for what the hell was going on.. and the acting.. cringing.. there's so many talented Portuguese actors (I mean.. Diogo Morgado is one of them), and this was just very disappointing.
Still kinda proud that Diogo directed a movie though :). Aaaand the beautiful Azores! Stunning photography! My 2 stars are for these 2 reasons.

I had my reservations at the very beginning and half way thru which was a stretch my reservations were confirmed that this movie is a total epic fail and waste! The acting is pathetically bad, the plot is NOT original because it appears so much was stolen from at least 3 other movies which makes for the plot to be painfully just bad. Don't waste your time and even though I didn't pay to watch there was still nothing to redeem about this movie! All the actors please don't quit your day jobs and continue to work on your acting skills!

Oh my, well this was a horrible experience. I can't even understand how something that bad could of gotten made. The acting was really amateurish and bad, but to be fair they probably didn't understand the movie either. What brings us to the story, and was that a total mess of nonsense without any reason or idea.
I just don't understand why this was made. They clearly had a very limited budget and no script or story. The special effects are dirt cheap and ugly. But nothing was worse than the total lack of any understandable plot or story. What a total waste of time. A horrible and boring waste of time.

I totally regret going to the cinema and spending movie for this movie. It was in many ways such a boring movie.. acting, the script, sound was incredibly loud and often misplaced in various scenes. The only positive thing was the cinematic scenes of the nature. They just should have done a documentary about Açores.

For the first time I really enjoyed watching a Portuguese movie. The script has a great twist and the video quality is very good.
The scenic Açores Islands were an awesome choice to shoot this great story.
It doesn't look like a national porduction.
I went home thinking about the movie message and that made my ticket worth it.
I highly recommend!

Loved the actors and the photography.
This film is a good suprise, the story, in the begining you think it wil be a simple story, then you realize that its is not that simple, there is mystery in what those people are really doing in the island.
Only one thing i think was negative, the protagonist was lost in the story, and that confuses the viewer.
The beautiful landscapes are a sufficient reason to go and see this movie!
Don't waste your time! Too bad!

Pick one or the other. Starring in your own film is usually a recipe for disaster, and this movie doesn't disappoint.
So there's 8 people. I'm already annoyed there are no representations of any race except white. I guess the others don't wasnt to participate in a survival show? Each character is lame. No background given on any to make you want to hope they win. We don't even know what the prize for winning is. Immediately something dramatic happens and you think "oh, this is gonna be spicy; there's already action." Boy is that wrong. The next hour is filled with running through this nice, yet dull, looking rainforest from another contestant. But there's no reason given as to why besides he was chasing someone. After this hour of cat and mouse 6 of them take him on and he's suddenly a super soldier and manages to handle them all until he's hit with a rock. Then our main girl gets knocked out and suddenly she's on a spaceship?! But then we're brought back to the forest. Time goes by and she asks what is going on. The only guy who knows explains but it's a awful explanation for us audience members, and then we go into a...flashback? Flash forward? Alternate time? The transition of the forest and space scenes are not good and can be confusing to understand if it is past present or future. We finally find out what is going on, kind of, and it's a big gut punch to the audience. The ending of the movie itself is another punch to the soul.
Technically this movie had problems. They are on a tropical island yet it is never sunny, always overcast, and very boring devoid of any wildlife. The alien ship, or maybe it's a human ship? Either way it's just a bunch of bright lights to hide the fact it's empty. The music was too loud during most scenes, and too hyper. Nothing in the movie was exiting for the style of music used.
Characters were unbelievable. The first one to die was probably the most realistic, as the others made awful decisions. A scientist just happens to be top tier in hand to hand combat, weapons training, and tracking? Give me a break. One guy knows what's going on the entire time but says nothing, causing so much unnecessary running and fighting, only to have no significance in the end.
I watched this on a rainy day during lunch on Amazon. If I hadn't, I would've fallen asleep. This is an easily skippable one.

This dude is a soap actor, and never going to pass that! There's so amazing actors in Portugal, that nobody "at least in Portugal " don't give them the credits they deserve! But a dude who appears in a "movie" about the life of Jesus and to be honest is lines and is voice in this movie is horrifying.... so i can't understand this industry!!! Is because of is look?? The girls like??? Is that?? Is a good soap actor nothing more.... is never going to be "Joaquim Almeida".... i like to see poertuguese people representing my country in everything.... but I can't support a person who don't deserve the attention that he have for the wrong reasons!!! Is not a movie actor.

A bit of a boring movie but, as those who read my reviews know, I always stick with it and watch the entire movie. I would have given it a 3 except for Catarina.
The one redeeming factor was an excellent, bordering on great, performance by Catarina Mira as Carol. Catarina is a gifted Portuguese actor that I was not familiar with. She has an incredible face and mature acting skills. Unfortunately, even after this performance she seems to be mired in TV and B movies. A shame.

This is a weird film. Good story idea, not liking the pace of the movie or so many missing details in the beginning of telling the backstory. Some extra storyline giving the viewer and understanding that the disaster of the movie had already happened, instead of downloading all of it in the middle of the story, which rushes the ending. Just a few more scenes away from the beauty of the island and Mr. Blue Eyes to give the viewer more depth of each story line.
The dialog, expected. Nothing surprising there. Loved the character of Scott! And of course the "love story" was a real hidden gem. Would of liked to seen more of that and less Mr. Blue Eyes.
The views are outstanding! I gave an extra star just because of the location of this film!

The movie has good and bad points. I will try to be concise and objective here.
Good Points:
(SPOILER ALERT!)
The General Movie Idea is good, the manking ruined nature (Global warming is one of the causes mentioned, pollution and wars) and now the planet is dead, there is no more space for human life, so humans sent a emergency help signal to the space, so there is this "aliens" trying to save some humans but not all of them, actually just saving the "winner" of the reality show
the spaceship scenes are also beautiful, feels real
Considering most actors are portuguese, it is nice to hear such good level of english. Pretty much native.
Bad points:
Too much thriller, suspance music, keeps on playing all through out the movie
Weird animation effect when people "die / give up on the game / press the suicide button", I believe it could be better edited

Original Environmental Call to Action

Congratulations!! I'm so proud of this Portuguese movie!
I see it as an original environmental call to action, drifting away from the mainstream movies era we live in. It is food for thought and it it is really interesting how it is interpreted differently by adults and teenagers (in my opinion!). Beautiful photography! Good cast! Well done- conquer the world!

Overall appreciation:
I think this is the first ever SciFi movie created in Portugal, and that, by itself is a good enough reason to go watch it.
The producers were not afraid to take on a project that was, by definition, very hard to accomplish considering the limitations.
This is not the best film ever, but I definitely don't regret seeing it either.
The fact that the producers and cast had the balls to do this, is reason enough to go watch it, so you should take the negative reviews here with a grain of salt and go check it live yourself .
The good: Photography and editing are well done. The scenery is beautiful. The story is interesting and wraps an eco message in what at first doesn't seem to be a movie about that subject. The futuristic sets are very well conceived for what I've heard was an extremely low budget
The average: The plot is interesting but could have been explored in more depth. Acting is just ok in some cases. Some visual effects are interesting, while others could have been taken to the next level.
The bad: The sound tack is off. In many cases it's too much for the scene, and in other scenes where it should boost emotions it is not.
