Title: Do you believe in God?
Br4ve-trave1or6 July 2018
Wow, what an impressive immersive pilot!!! This episode is Netflix introducing us to India (They deserve it) the way Dark and Babylon Berlin did for Germany, also it has the same production and as impressive as the first episode of Narcos imo.

The pilot feels very refreshing and like we're in the hands of talented writers surrounded by a seasoned cast. From the very opening scene, "Do you believe in God?" I had it on dubbed and then switched, but even though I dont prefer dubbed, it was not that bad imo before I switched to Hindi and subtitles.

This story and plot is very unique and high praise even though it may come down to being good versus evil but the execution and the way its captured is so well done. I insist on remaining ambiguous in this review, meaning go in it knowing that it has received critical acclaim and dont look to see what about. Just go into this series blind and I think you'll find yourself generally surprised on how you feel after the first episode. At least I did. Ok, fine, just know that you're about to watch something that maybe a very special series debuting from India and representing their country amazingly! The casting is brilliant btw, and the acting is top notch! Bravo India, I wish I understood Hindi. 9/10

Intriguing and well-acted

This is how you begin a series! Let's admit it. The current state of Indian television is just devastating- from non-sense soap operas that will make you cringe- television is nothing but melodrama.

Leave it to Anurag Kashyap to revive the same. "Sacred Games" has been hyped so much around the Internet that it raises the question- is it really that good? Indeed it is. Well directed and superbly edited, this series will hook you from the very first scene itself- the way it clashes between past and present is amazing again.

But the biggest treat here are its actors especially Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Saif Ali Khan. Siddiqui is the kind of actor whose presence is enough to have you hooked- even his voice gives you the goosebumps. While the sharp writing is definitely to be credited for it, it is ultimately Siddiqui's dedicated work that makes this series work. Saif Ali Khan is also great and the way he goes around throwing abuses will surely make you laugh and raise your eyebrows at the same. Glad to see him in something different rather than stupid comedies like Humshaakals.

Overall- it is an amazing show that will hold your attention right away! Watch it!

Hugely Overrated
markfranh29 July 2018
I've done a review of the whole series but I thought I'd do an additional one under the first episode in order to possibly save people of the ordeal of wasting hours of their lives watching this.

This is possibly the most overrated and overhyped series I've ever come across. It is beautifully filmed, wonderfully acted, with a great background in Mumbai, and thoroughly, completely, frustratingly, and agonizingly unwatchable. Why? Because it's almost impossible to follow what is going on. If you speak Hindi, then perhaps it makes sense. If you have a good knowledge of India and understand Indian modern history, then just maybe, maybe it would make an inkling of sense. But otherwise? No. Don't waste your time.

This series is based on a 900 page novel and whoever was responsible for trying to compress 900 pages into a mini-series of 8 parts faced a near impossible task and has failed in the undertaking. Scenes seem to jump randomly and have at times to bearing on what has come before or what comes later. We were left thoroughly confused and totally disappointed.

By episode 5, we were ready to give up but decided that with only 3 episodes left we'd watch to the end. HUGE mistake for two reasons: 1) it only got worse. and 2) and get this because it is the key point I want to make here:

THIS IS ONLY SERIES 1 AND THE SERIES ENDS WITH A CLIFFHANGER WITH A FURTHER 8 EPISODES NEXT YEAR TO FIND OUT WHAT IS GOING ON.

Please, please don't waste your time. It really isn't worth the agony of having to endure this. Episode 1 may tempt you in because it is admittedly very well done; episode 2 may entice too but it's all like an addictive drug. Get hooked on it and you may not be able to stop even though you know is all absolute garbage.
