It's ok, nothing extraordinary.
Top_Dawg_Critic14 October 2018
This was a low budget weakly produced film that is highly predictable. If you see the trailer, you've seen the entire film.

Postpartum Depression? Or More?
lavatch1 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Josh and Danielle Thompson are a nice couple who are unable to produce a baby. But Danielle's gynecologist and a social worker assure them of the joys of having a surrogate. Josh's sperm and Danielle's egg will be implanted in vitro into young Kailee Richards. Nine months later, a beautiful baby girl, Sophie, is handed off like a football to Josh and Danielle. But Kailee refuses to leave them alone, breaking her contract in which she agreed never to contact the parents.

"The Sinister Surrogate" developed good dramatic tension in the struggle of the kind parents to free themselves of the increasingly disturbing hold of Kailee Richards. But the film was disappointing in the lack of development of Kailee's character and the minimal amount of screen time she was given. At the hospital, it appeared that Kailee was suffering from postpartum depression. But the narrative soon demonstrated that the problem was much deeper.

There were too many loose ends in the film in understanding Kailee's motivation and her complicated relationship with her mother, the psychiatrist Dr. Karen Jorgensen. The mother and daughter were working together behind the scenes to steal the baby that they both craved. But when it was announced that Dr. Jorgensen was murdered, she shows up in the Thompson home in the next scene. Who died in the reported crime scene?

And just at the moment after the doctor stabs Josh and is making off with little Sophie, Dr. Jorgensen is shot by her own daughter. What on earth is going on? That act was never explained after Kailee is taken off in the squad car. More time was given to Josh's unfortunate employee Tyler, who dies trying to hack into the medical records of Kailee. By the end of film, we know more about Tyler than Kailee!

Another curious figure in the film was the "by-the-book" Detective Logan, who has to be one of most dim-witted law enforcement official ever to grace a Lifetime movie. What was he thinking in delaying an investigation of Kailee's past, which should have led him straight to Dr. Jorgensen?

The best moments in the film were those of the gentle parents when they were first introduced to their new baby. Clearly, they were on their way to raising the little girl in the way that both Dr. Karen Jorgensen and her daughter Kailee Richards deserved in their own, sordid lives.

Ok- pretty actor( actress)
doycesub9 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The actor playing Kailee (Jaciyn Hayes) is very pretty!! The police detective character is quite stupid!! I'm not sure the character could find is butt with both hands!! It's the usual Lifetime movie where the victims have to solve their own crimes against them. The police seem unable in this to investigate anything!! Other than that enjoy the pretty women and the ok story.

My issue with movies like this
CranberriAppl30 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Is that the psycho's behavior should have been nipped in the bud from the start. True, then the movie wouldn't be 2 hours, but logically, it's hard to believe that certain things would happen w/o consequences. I'm pretty sure these agencies put in the contracts no-contact clauses (or rules at least that both parties must agree/adhere to). Thankfully the wife brought up going to the police, and of course in Lifetime's world, the husband is the hesitant one, but no. If you don't want her around you, and there is a contract about this transaction, you need to at least put something on record.

I'm 40 minutes in and I kind of think the surrogacy director (?) might be in on it? Not sure if she's old enough to be the woman in the flashback, but she's just too flippant about a potential issue where a surrogate she "vetted" is forcing herself on the adoptive parents. How are you not concerned about potential trouble to your business? I mean come on, at the 50 minute mark, what she's doing shoudl be considered stalking.

OK, while it's nice to see Mac from General Hospital, but even in here he's a terrible detective. This mess should stop and end at whether or not the surrogacy agreement requires her to stay away.

I'm getting so annoyed by this. I want to turn it off. Or I'll see if it's posted to Youtube and just FF to the end.

Garbage movie so far.

Edit: Annndddd I was correct in my suspicions. I will say that I'm glad that for almost all of the movie, the couple was "woke" to Hailee's behavior. It would have been even worse if they kept giving her the benefit of the doubt. I am glad that they stuck together and she didn't drive a wedge btwn them to where they were fighting each other or calling each other crazy. That is a change from the usual. IDK, I'll add a couple of stars to update my score. It was never that "thrilling" but I did end up watching it til the end.

Was a typical Lifetime movie up until the last minutes. The last 10 minutes of directing was HORRENDOUS and turned a B movie into an F!

Psychopath Blueprint
cleejonez4 November 2018
This movie IS the blueprint of the crazy psychopathic warped behavior. Anyone who as been the recipient of abuse by a psychopath/socipathic (Narcopath) narcissist knows this insanity. NOBODY is exempt from being a 'target'. Wake up to this behavior....know the signs and act accordingly so you aren't the one who gets compromised. These people can be very 'expensive' to your bankbook to get away and protect yourself.

The acting isn't that bad.....
deralexanderda23 April 2022
The acting isn't bad bad, but the script is extremely obvious.

I managed to make it all the way to the end (others didn't), but it wasn't worth it. Do yourself a favour and skip this one.

Stay till the end it's a bit better than the usual wacko surrogate movie.
phd_travel10 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
There have been a bunch of wacko surrogate movies in Lifetime so this one has to have something different. The wackoness isn't that unique but this one is nicely done. The ending makes it worth while. Like the way the couple takes things into their own hands. Like the victimised couple too they avoid being annoying.
