Sex & Nudity

  • One of Adam's 'imaginary' characters, Joaquin, who dwells inside his mind, is a boy about his age that spends the entire film in his boxer shorts.

Violence & Gore

  • During a mental breakdown, Adam accidentally spills a beaker of acid onto one of his friends' arms. The viewer can hear the skin sizzling as well as smoke coming off his arm, however, no blood or gore is visible.
  • Adam has three or four mental breakdowns throughout the film which feature him getting into physical altercations with authority figures (parents and teachers)

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • In one of the final scenes of the film, Adam attempts suicide by swallowing an entire prescription bottle of anti-psychotic medication. The attempt fails and the film shows the negative effects this suicide attempt has on Adam.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The central character of this film, Adam, is a high school senior who happens to suffer from schizophrenia. The director of the film wanted the audience to see what the world looked like through Adam's eyes with all the hallucinations and delusions that go with the condition. Because of this, there are several semi-frightening scenes showing the audience what Adam is seeing but isn't truly there in reality.
