Visually astounding, story-wise okay

Warning: Spoilers
"Bilby" is an animated 2018 short film that received some solid awards recognition and I will spare you the names of the people who made this one because it is more than you would expect for an 8-minute film. This is an American production, even if it felt more Australian especially in the first half, without any spoken dialogue, so you can watch it wherever you are from and no matter which languages you speak without the need for subtitles. Okay the biggest strength here is not surprising because this is a Dreamworks production and that of course menas the visual side in terms of both characters and setting (landscapes etc.) is absolutely stunning. This is what carries the film for a long time admittedly as the story is not really on par and maybe slightly too simple, even (or especially) for asuch a brief movie. But eventually, the heart prevails and it turns into a good movie. Pretty impressive how the title character is more of a gritty fighter than you'd expect how he protect the baby bird from poisonous snakes and scorpions and a lot more really. Too bad he won't get rewarded with his desired berries. Well.. until the very end that is. The final shot I found really beautiful and a great way to end the movie and this was the main reason for my decision to give this film 3 stars out of 5 and a positive recommendation. In-between I wasn't entirely sure as I was not as touched as I hoped I would be by the story, maybe also because honestly I found Bilby cuter than the bird, even with the noises it was making. I assume the Academy thought the same as they did include it on the list of 10 potential Oscar nominees for the Best Animated Short category, but it did not make the final cut. On a completely unrelated side-note, I thought the bird that gets the baby bird at some point in the second half of the film would be the mother. Well, I was wrong. But I think I'm right when saying that this is a solid little film and I recommend checking it out. Also worth seeing for the little ones as the admittedly many life-threatening situations for the bird are never one bit scary or gruesome to audiences. Go see it. Thumbs-up.

A friendship that makes my heart warm.

Warning: Spoilers
Bilby is a short film which is about friendship. I love this short film because it makes my heart so warm. The animation is so cool. And it's very touchable.

What I love about this short film is how Bilby decided to save that white little guy instead of chasing food. That must be a very hard decision to make. But Bilby finally decided to save him. It really touched me. The characters are not saying a word. But it really shows it's purpose.

The best thing of this animation is that Bilby tried to save him even he knew he might not save him. He gave his life to save him. He saved him many times and the connection between those two becomes stronger and stronger. Even after that little guy becomes mature, they stay together. It's like nothing can keep them apart. The final scene is very touchable. And also it made me feel that their friendship is really, really great. I really admire those two.

Anyway, although this animation is just a short film, but the creator can show the importance of friendship and it's meaning in 9 minutes. I really love this one for it's true meaning. Well done, DreamWorks!

A Really Cute and Heartfelt Short!
Clank_Zoka9 January 2019
Huh who knew DreamWorks did short films?, because I sure didn't and this one shows that they still got what it takes to be at odds with Pixar, this short is about a Bilby protecting a baby chick from all sorts of predators in the Australian Outback, it may be short but it has so much to offer, amazing animation as always from DreamWorks, the characters are cute and funny, the comedy is surprisingly strong, the score is amazing, it's touching and adorable and I like the two main characters, they are both loveable and work off each other very well!.

I highly recommend this short, properly the best DreamWorks has done since Captain Underpants: the First Epic Movie, it shows that they still can make great entertainment with good animation as always and making something for everyone to enjoy, it's making me even more excited for the new How to Train Your Dragon Movie that is coming out soon.

This short easily gets a 10/10.

The animation's camera work is a testament to the skillful craftsmanship behind the scenes. The positioning of the camera not only showcases the intricacies of the animation but also adds depth to the storytelling. With every angle meticulously chosen, the audience is immersed in a visual feast that enhances the overall experience.

The humor in this short is nothing less than brilliant. The timing, wit, and with no dialogues, had me laughing out loud throughout the entire viewing. It's not just simple gags; the humor is intricately woven into the narrative that needs no words, adding layers of enjoyment for viewers of all ages.

It's a testament to the power of storytelling when an animated short can evoke such a range of emotions, from laughter to anxiety, and even tears of both terror and joy.

However, what truly sets this animation apart are the characters. They are not just mere drawings; they come to life with distinct personalities and relatable traits. You find yourself forming a connection with them, as they navigate the challenges presented in the story. Their growth and development throughout the short contribute significantly to the emotional impact of the piece.

Dreamworks has truly outdone itself with this animation. It delivers a rollercoaster of emotions right from the start. The seamless blend of laughter, anxiety, terror, tears, and happiness is a testament to the creators' dedication to delivering a holistic experience. It's a rare gem that has the ability to resonate with audiences on a profound level.

This animated short is a masterpiece that deserves all the accolades it receives.
