Is the Academy ready to embrace Adam Sandler?
On Tuesday, Netflix released the first trailer for Happy Gilmore 2, the long-awaited sequel starring Sandler as the unconventional and irascible pro golfer. The short teaser quicly trended online, sparking a fresh round of love and appreciation for its star following Sandler’s well-received appearances at the Golden Globes, the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special, and the Oscars this year. However, all the goodwill feels like prologue to Sandler’s next big project: a juicy role in Noah Baumbach’s new film, Jay Kelly, opposite George Clooney and coming this fall also via Netflix. On paper, the Baumbach project is the type of movie that will find itself in the middle of the awards conversation, meaning the beloved Sandler could finally receive recognition from the Academy after snubs for Uncut Gems and Hustle. Ahead is the extremely early case for Sandler...

After nearly three decades, Happy Gilmore is ready to return to the golf course.
Netflix on Tuesday released the teaser trailer for the upcoming film Happy Gilmore 2, a direct sequel to Adam Sandler’s 1996 slapstick comedy.
While the original film saw Gilmore (Sandler), a failed ice hockey player turned surprise golf sensation, upset pro Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald) at a major tournament, the sequel sees Gilmore return to the game after a long absence.
“I haven’t swung a club in years,” Gilmore says in the trailer, as he prepares to return to the game to take on some of sport’s current stars.

Hollywood A-listers or TikTok trendsetters, who’s got the bigger paycheck in 2024? Once upon a time, movie stars ruled the money game, cashing in on blockbuster deals and hefty backend profits. While actors still pull in jaw-dropping salaries, think Robert Downey Jr.’s levels of wealth, the influencer economy is a whole different beast. A viral post can make more money in a day than some actors do in a whole season. Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot’s live-action rendition of Snow White is just around the corner, hoping the many controversies do not render it a box-office disaster. Having already starred in another reimagining of a classic — West Side Story — Zegler’s career thus far hinges heavily on remakes and franchises.
These include the Dceu sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, a prequel that recruited Zegler as Lucy Gray. The latter role did not arrive without inciting comparisons with Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen, the original spearhead of The Hunger Games’ celestial $3 billion success.

It’s no news to her avid fans, but to the average Netflix viewer, “Running Point” contains a surprise: Mindy Kaling loves basketball.
The producing powerhouse behind “The Office” and “The Mindy Project” and more recently “The Sex Lives of College Girls” and Netflix’s own “Never Have I Ever” takes on the power and politics of the NBA with her new series — a fascination that dates back to her childhood.
“When [my dad] emigrated here, one of the ways that he felt like he could become better attuned to American culture was to get really into professional sports,” Kaling told IndieWire ahead of the show’s premiere. “He fell in love with basketball, and we were kind of forced to watch the Boston Celtics my entire childhood, until we fell in love with it too. It was the heyday of Larry Bird, the Celtics versus the Lakers, that dynasty.”

Did Anne Hathaway face a lot of hate from Hollywood in 2010s? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Anne Hathaway just admitted it cost her some big roles due to her hate era. “A lot of people wouldn’t give me roles because they were so concerned about how toxic my identity had become online,” she told Vanity Fair.
But what even started all the hate? Flashback to 2011 — Hathaway co-hosted the Oscars with James Franco, and it was a mess. She was overly eager, he looked half-asleep, and the internet roasted them both. Franco didn’t help, throwing shade on The Late Show with David Letterman: “Anne Hathaway is so energetic, I think the Tasmanian Devil would look stoned standing next to Anne Hathaway.” Ouch.
Then came The Dark Knight Rises, where fans weren’t sold on her as Catwoman. And in 2013, after winning her Oscar for Les Misérables, every acceptance speech...

It’s unbelievable to learn that it has been almost 30 years since Happy Gilmore graced fans with its comedic presence in theaters and at home. The 1996 sports comedy was one of Adam Sandler’s first, before he had formed Happy Madison Productions, which went on to become a juggernaut in the movie business. The cast is made up of mostly familiar faces, many of whom went on to star in huge projects, including Sandler himself.
With a sequel film coming out this year, and many of the original cast members reprising their roles, fans are excited at the prospect of seeing the title character and his hockey-inspired golf style once again. But it also makes fans curious what the cast members have been up to in the last almost three decades, notably the ones who aren’t the most known figures.

Uncut Gems, the Adam Sandler thriller with a whopping 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes, has landed on streaming. The 2019 film directed by Benny Safdie and Josh Safdie has been added to Tubi, the platform that requires not a single dime and where you can watch movies and TV shows absolutely for free, if you're willing to take a few unexpected breaks, as Tubi cuts to ads unexpectedly, regardless of if the movie is at its most exciting moment. Jeremy Renner & Amy Adams Laugh Riot ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
Denis Villeneuve’s critically acclaimed sci-fi drama Arrival, released in 2016, treated viewers with an emotionally resonant yet challenging story of humanity’s first encounter with extraterrestrial life. Starring Amy Adams as linguist Louise Banks and Jeremy Renner as physicist Ian Donnelly, Arrival became a landmark achievement in the genre and marked a turning point in the Dune director’s career.
Ironically, the central conflict observed in Arrival — linguistic barriers to communicating with a diverse species — wasn’t limited to the movie’s script but found its way to the production, albeit not so much as emotionally but humorously. During the promotional tour of Arrival, Adams and Renner appeared on The Graham Norton Show, where they delighted the audience with hilarious behind-the-scenes anecdotes about working with Villeneuve.

The ending of the new Netflix sci-fi adventure movie Spaceman is somewhat ambiguous, especially regarding the fate of Adam Sandler's Jakub protagonist. The unique and existential Spaceman was directed by Johan Renck, known for his exceptional work on Chernobyl (2019), Breaking Bad (2009–2011), The Walking Dead (2010), Vikings (2013), and Bloodline (2015). Despite Renck's impressive filmography, Spaceman has received mixed reviews from critics off the bat, earning a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 50%.
Spaceman stars Sandler in another notable dramatic performance seen in previous works such as Uncut Gems, Punch-Drunk Love, and Hustle. Sandler's Jakub receives the unfortunate news that his wife Lenka, played by Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan, wants to divorce him while he's halfway on an 8-month solo mission to outer space. Jakub is tasked with gathering samples of the mysterious yet mesmerizing Chopra Cloud that randomly became visible in the Earth's sky. The Equalizer cast carried the television adaptation through its five seasons, proving the series about someone helping people who can't help themselves is just as popular now as it was when the original series aired in the 1980s. Based on the original series of the same name starring Edward Woodward, the CBS reboot features Queen Latifah as a former CIA operative who seeks justice on her own terms in New York City. The Equalizer retains the spirit of the original series, along with the movie franchise starring Denzel Washington, but gender-swapped the lead to Robyn McCall instead of Bob McCall.
In the pilot, Robyn (Latifah) helps a young girl, Jewel Machado, who becomes mixed up in a murder conspiracy. Robyn considers returning to the CIA but would rather spend time with her teenage daughter, Delilah, while moonlighting as a Big Apple vigilante. The show has changed up the cast somewhat...

Matt Smith goes full bad boy in the first look at Sky’s six-part series “The Death of Bunny Munro,” based on Nick Cave’s cult novel.
In the debut image released from the series, Smith — who is playing the title character — sports only his underwear as he gets ready to light up in a laundromat. By Smith’s side is newcomer Rafael Mathé as Bunny Munro’s son, Bunny Junior.
Described as a “wild cautionary tale” and “tender portrait of a father and son,” “The Death of Bunny Munro” takes place after Bunny’s wife, Libby, dies by suicide. According to its official synopsis: “Sex-addicted door-to-door beauty product salesman and self-professed lothario Bunny Munro finds himself saddled with a young son and only a loose concept of parenting. Adam Sandler is an actor who many tend to associate with dumb comedy classics from the '90s, but since then, he's known for even less mature, repetitive comedies such as Grown Ups, or an unending stream of vaguely thematically different rom-coms like Just Go with It or 50 First Dates. Most of these (often painfully unfunny) movies are produced or written by Sandler himself. However, from time to time, Sandler places himself in the hands of other creatives, which often yields better results. The actor won an Independent Spirit Award for his performance in Uncut Gems, but this is arguably not his best movie.
Paul Thomas Andersons 2002 drama Punch-Drunk Love is an incredibly quirky film which stars Sandler as Barry Egan, a socially awkward and chronically nervous businessman. An Adam Sandler horror-comedy franchise is dominating a global streaming chart. Sandler is a five-time Emmy nominee who first rose to prominence as a member of the cast of the long-running NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live. He has since become a major comedy star, with his movies Billy Madison (about a wealthy adult man who is forced to return to school) and Happy Gilmore (about a golfer with anger issues) helping his star rise further and providing the name for his production company Happy Madison, which was founded in 1999.

Of the score, Dan Deacon says, “Comic books were core part of my childhood and some of my fondest memories of being a kid. I was 7 and an avid comic collector when Venom first appeared. Peter Yates' "Bullitt" is one of the most stylish cop flicks ever made. Those multi-screen opening credits designed by the great Pablo Ferro, that jazzily urbane Lalo Schifren score, those wildly cool outfits donned by Steve McQueen at the height of his laconic sexiness (some inspired by the suits sported by real life detective Dave Toschi) –- it's a stone groove punctuated by spasms of violence and, of course, a raucous car chase through the hilly streets of San Francisco. Are “Anora” and “The Brutalist” being underestimated for an ensemble nomination at the Screen Actors Guild Awards? Who will be the surprise SAG nominee of the year? Gold Derby editors and experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here with their first SAG Awards film predictions.
While “Anora” is perched atop the Best Picture odds at the Oscars, it’s not even in the top five in the SAG ensemble odds, sitting in sixth place. That might be because the Palme d’Or champ is perceived as a Mikey Madison vehicle, but it’s also a sneaky ensemble piece with great performances by Mark Eydelshteyn, Yura Borisov, Karren Karagulian, and Vache Tovmasyan. Similarly, “The Brutalist” — third in the Best Picture odds but seventh in ensemble — could easily be another film that gets multiple individual nominations, for Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, and Guy Pearce, but get snubbed in ensemble like “The Power of the Dog,...
