- Harry Bosch finds out one of his old cases is up for review and worries that all the cases since might be questioned. In another part of town, thugs in masks murder a pharmacist.
- Fifteen months after solving the cold case murder of his mother, Marjorie Lowe, and suffering the loss of his ex-wife, Eleanor, things look grim for Detective Harry Bosch. Strung-out and dirty, we find Bosch stepping off a small plane in the middle of nowhere and transported along with a dozen other haggard-looking lost souls to a remote camp in the desert. Has the dark side conquered Harry Bosch? At night, Harry starts snooping around the camp. Maybe he's not a junkie after all. But Bosch is discovered by the camp's crew, a gun pressed to his head, and just as the trigger's pulled ... We jump back a few weeks to where this all began: Pharmacist Jose Esquivel Sr. and his son, Jose Jr. argue in their small struggling store, while dangerous men lurk outside. Jose Jr. storms out. The men enter demanding oxycodone, and, failing to get it, shoot Esquivel Sr. dead. The murderers flee. As all of Hollywood Station scrambles to the crime scene, Crate and Barrel get T-boned by a patrol car. Bosch and partner J. Edgar take lead on the case and get to work tracking the killers. Meanwhile Police Chief Irving meets with the ambitious new LA District Attorney Roselyn Hines, who weighs the value of releasing body-cam footage of an officer involved shooting, and appears eager to file charges against the cops. J. Edgar meets with South LA Detectives, Marcos and Arias, who want Edgar to connect them with his former Criminal Informant, Gary Wise, hoping Gary has info about a drive-by shooting in which two young kids were tragically killed in the crossfire. Maddie Bosch, interning at the DA's office, has caught the eye of law clerk Tom Galligan. He's working with the Conviction Integrity Unit (CIU) reviewing an old case of her father's - the brutal rape and murder of a young woman, Danielle Skyler. When Maddie tells Bosch about it, he assures her the conviction of Preston Borders was by the book. There are two kinds of truth... and Borders behind bars is the right kind.
