People who don't like it use words like "hip"

It's a lovely series. The acting is on point and all the characters are so likeable. It's very real and the world they live in is very relatable. The bad reviews are mostly written by pompous people who probably can't relate. I'm glad we're still getting series on TV that aren't all glitz and glamour and actually speaks to certain people rather than just entertaining them. Well done to the writers, actors and all involved. The series have given some warmth and connection during a tough time.

Strugling with my prejudices
MayaFlorale23 October 2020
Now this is something you don't see every day. You consider yourself are open minded, well this is really a challange of the stereotypes about love and relationship. I almost failed and stopped watching just before the end. My insincts (like: this is so wrong!) vs. common sense and my believes (live and let live) were in an constant battle inside me. I like the originality of the story, the plot was interesting, the acting decent. The chemistry between the three was definitely there. The friends and family of the trio were just unrealistically supportive. The story also somehow lost it's charm after they came out of the closet. After that it was just a semi-ordinary drama.

Great stuff
abettssymonds19 March 2020
Definitely a hidden gem in my opinion. It captures poly and London life really well. Acting is in point, very subtle but that's what gives it charm. The peripheral characters are really well developed, especially in the cafe. Would watch again.

This is inspirational, beautifully filmed, well acted, great writing, excellent storytelling. Proves you don't need enormous budgets to tell good and important stories. Love is everything. Fab soundtrack and score. Bravo!!!

Starts well but becomes boring
garethvthomas5 November 2020
Starts interestingly but runs out of steam within a few episodes. Then it feels very over-extended and should have been cut shorter. I lost interest in the characters and found them frustrating and annoying. Given my chances again I wouldn't watch this series.

Wonderful and very moving
chudson-8948621 March 2020
What an amazing show from start to finish. Each episode had me smiling, laughing and crying. I fell in love with the characters straight away. The acting was incredible and so natural. The chemistry between the three leads was believable and felt real and the supporting cast were just as good. I could happily watch this all over again just to see these wonderful characters again. It was that good.

YOUMEHER
glyndwrg14 November 2020
I watched this after watching YOUMEHER on Netflix..So was a little disappointed with Trigometry. Well done BBC for at least being brave enough to broadcast. I found some characters could have been better employed somewhere else because they were not relevant to the story.

With YOUMEHER I was left wanting more, but with this series, once it had finished I felt relief.

BBC finally goes Bold
zoegledhill25 March 2020
Was pleasantly surprised to see such positive representation on mainstream british television. It depicts an interesting polyamorous triad in their origin and growth and how they navigate their relationship around society and those around them. Not shying away from the negative stigma and reactions given to the triad but also showing positive reactions and ending on an ultimately very positive and uplifting note. It expands upon the lives of their family members and friends so elegantly with a particularly moving episode focusing on Ray's mother. The three main characters are well developed and extremely likeable, I found myself falling in love with all three of them! In hope for a second season but also think they absolutely smashed it and rounded it off nicely with this first season. Ultimately it's an extremely refreshing show!

Exellent ignore negative reviews
madjackmacmadart29 March 2020
I'm really enjoying this quirky drama. Watching episode 4 as I type this, I had to create a profile and review after reading so many negative reviews. Good acting and sexy drama without actually seeing anything too revealing and all likable characters. Love it

Desperately Dull
JRB-NorthernSoul18 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Below par direction and production values, presumably made on a very low budget. Surprised it was on BBC2 feels pure BBC3. Premise and script flimsy and ineffectual it's hard to see how it could stretch out to 8 parts around a menage a trois and a character with mental health issues. Lacked any drama or humour, very flat in tone. Disappointing all round.

Absolutely worth seeing...
jrarichards4 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
From our school days, we remember (and if not, the series will at its very end remind us) that trigonometry is that part of geometry dealing with triangles, the lengths of their sides and the angles between them. If a triangle is equilateral, the distances separating the three points are the same. In contrast, an isosceles triangle has two longer (equal) sides and one short one, meaning that two points are close together. Finally, there is a scalene triangle in which each point is different distance from each other point.

Now how might all that apply to the more-or-less ethnic Gemma (Thalissa Teixeira) and long-term boyfriend Kieran (Gary Carr) when a (very white) lodger called Ray moves in to supplement their finances? Ray is not as male as she sounds, being former Olympic-level synchronised swimmer Ramona (French), though the actress is Greek-French Ariane Labed. Ray actually seems to be of British-French parentage, while Gemma has a (once again very) white father ex military. All of this helps fill out the cultural mix of London that we see presented, and indeed, as Kieran works in an ambulance, while Gemma is struggling to make a go of a restaurant, there is a setting that is at once rather homely and domestic, while also vibrant and multicultural and multi-gender. Nostalgia for a pre-corona London is quite likely to be present in the viewer.

Now there is not the slightest question that Gemma and Kieran are good people, and that is quite important. However, not everybody in their family and circles is as good as they are, and few people featured are true successes in life, as measured by typical standards. For her part, Ray is sensitive and a bit traumatised by what happened to her health and career.

Of course the cultural snapshot is NOT the key point here, but it leavens the mix.

What really of course matters is how love flourishes within the triangle, unbidden, inconvenient, disruptive, semi-tragic, threatening, tempting, and irresistible.

How equilateral that triangle looks becomes a matter of some importance.

A key further point concerns the eroticism, which is tangible but not excessive. We see rather little (though not zero), and there is not much dirty about this threesome setup. It is much more based on love than lust, or indeed on adoration, as this word is deployed in relation to how our couple come to feel about their lodger/guest. Indeed, since Ray has another fling or two, one thing we are expected to accept (perhaps dubiously) is that Ramona is somehow irresistible to one and all for some reason. Do we in the audience also feel that? Perhaps.

In any case, the presentation here is serious, worthwhile and informative. Our thoughts could be provoked, if we choose to allow that; but there is little nasty. For me the worst moment (though probably quite authentic) came with the wedding of Gemma and Kieran, which offers a further (less-favourable) snapshot of modern Britain, in which guests introduce rancour, negativity, a lack of enthusiasm, chaos, swearing, excessive drinking and weed-smoking into the happy couple's day.

Few more spoilers need be added, but it is worth hinting at a marvellous moment at the very end of episode 5 (a kind of mid-series "climax") in which some of the heavy seriousness dissipates into traditional British humour and understatement. This was a quite unexpected touch, but in some sense inevitable, most welcome and in fact perhaps a little bit of genius. For reasons best known to itself, the series does not end there, but flogs on for a couple more episodes, looking - not always convincingly - at what the mostly-liberating impact of the group of 3 on people in their surroundings (mostly family) is going to be. It's less compelling, but still worth pressing through with, though a valid question might concern how we actually feel at the end of the thing. Actually, perhaps just a little bit exhausted by what is an intriguing trigonometrical thought-experiment whose real-world validity might occasionally look a bit questionable.

But so what? We need this kind of refreshing input from a bit outside the comfort zone...

Waist of time
mijana-velickovic19 April 2022
Really boring, nothing really happens, bad acting, bad dialogue, not convincing at all. Episodes are too long. Good idea, bad execution. Not worth watching.

I cant think of one good or slightly interesting thing that happened in this show.

My wife and I both really loved this program. The interesting story, the way it was filmed and some excellent acting make this one of my favourite TV series ever. I hope if they do a new series they keep us guessing and continue their high standards. Loved it.

After the wedding episode (4) it became boring and the characters annoying. Directing was great, acting good and scenario problematic.

Tragically hip
paul2001sw-128 April 2020
Rarely will see you a drama so achingly contemporary, so uniform in its depiction of diversity, as 'Trigonometry'. It features a cast of characters of differing race, nationality, class, religion, sexual orientation and lifestyle; all set in a trendy cafe. Throw in recreational weed smoking, conversational swearing, a subplot about a very conventional character getting a tattoo (something that might have been genuinely cutting edge about 20 years ago) and the mix is complete. When at one point two characters played a game of "Who am I?" with the personae of drag queen Ru Paul and feminist author Margaret Attwood, it was hard to tell if this was self-parody or self-saborage. At the heart of the story is a a couple who both find themselves attracted the same third party, the mysteriously magnetic Ray (mysterious to me, at any rate). I'm sure there's a good drama to be written about unconventional partnerships; a good start might be to throw out the manifestos and let the story speak for itself.

Stunning LGBTQ series about polyamory, one of the best romantic drama I have ever watched!
tmuk55-726-28975812 June 2020
A series that feels real enough to grip and reach inside, but romantic and glitzy enough to make you dream and fall in love with at least one of the women in it (nice guy, but hey, I am a lesbian!).

Refreshingly, it is NOT about sex, but about real life, trying to survive, live and find time for one another in a very realistic (south?) london setting, in all its multicultural, multiracial, difficult, challenging, frantic beauty.

Desire morphing quickly into love in one of the most difficult circumstances: 3 people, 2 genders, 2 sexual orientations, 2 races, many differences and some similarities, money constraints,

No point spoiling it for you... I had planned to watch it at leisure.... Ha! Having started, I immediately fell in love with the characters, settings, acting, directing, sets, backdrop, plots and stayed up all night to binge-watch the lot!

It is a story of tenderness, but it isn't in the least bit schmaltzy, it is about sexuality, but it does't even remotely smell of soft porn.
