For fans of “Weekend,” “Before Sunrise” and other regret-tinged romances about what-might-have-beens and what-were-nots, “Of an Age” just might be the devastating cinematic kick you need — and a reason to rue the one who’ll never get away.

Its director, Goran Stolevski, made a modest splash at Sundance and in theaters last year with his directorial debut, the witchy, body-jumping folk horror tale “You Might Be Alone” for Focus Features. He reteams with the prestige distributor for “Of an Age,” which finds the director switching up genres but still laying down a throughline: The sexy Aussie-set gay romance is about bodies, after all, and the way they bend toward time and desire.

“All my films could really be called ‘You Won’t Be Alone,’” the Macedonian-born, Australian-based filmmaker told IndieWire over a recent Zoom interview. “It’s just that I’ve already used that title.” The out-gay director is charmingly self-effacing.

The Wayans family might be taking over our TV screens again, this time in a new potential series at CBS. On Oct. 10, Deadline exclusively reported that dream duo Damon Wayans, 62, and his son Damon Wayans Jr., 40, are set to star in an untitled father-son comedy at the network, which now has an official pilot order, per a Feb. 8 update.

According to the outlet, the multicamera sitcom "revolves around legendary talk radio host and happily divorced 'Poppa' (Wayans), who has to drag his grown son (Wayans Jr.), who has all his charm and none of his drive, kicking and screaming into adulthood before he turns 40." It'll be executive produced by the comedy pair, along with former "Last Man Standing" executive producer Kevin Hench, and cowritten by Wayans.

The yet-to-be-titled series marks Wayans's return to network comedy following his wildly successful sitcom "My Wife and Kids.

CBS has announced a pilot order for an untitled father/son project from Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr.

“Legendary talk radio host and happily divorced “Poppa” (Damon Sr.) has his point of view challenged at work when a new female co-host is hired, and at home where he finds himself still parenting his adult son (Damon Jr.), a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband,” reads the multi-camera comedy’s logline.

In addition to starring, Damon Sr. will serve as an executive producer and co-writer with former “Last Man Standing” EP, Kevin Hench. Damon Jr. will star and executive produce. VP of productions, Kameron Tarlow, will oversee the production on behalf of Two Shakes Entertainment. CBS Studios is behind the project.

CBS promises additional information will be given in the coming weeks.

Wong Kar Wai’s emails are every bit as restrained, oblique, and poetic as you might expect from someone who wears sunglasses to the movies and conjured “In the Mood for Love,” but the right question (or maybe the wrong one) can trigger a sudden pulse of raw emotion.

Ask Wong if he’s concerned about the future of film, for example, and he responds with the rare answer that isn’t slightly canned or softened by metaphor: “I’m tired of all this ‘cinema is dead’ shit. People enjoy watching movies, period. What makes them hesitant are the risks (under Covid) and the costs of watching films in cinemas today. For people who really care about the future of cinema, I suggest they go buy a ticket to support their local cinemas when they reopen, because many of them are barely surviving. Or at least keep positive.”

Damon Wayans Jr. has signed on to star in “Kill the Orange-Faced Bear,” the TBS comedy pilot about a man bent on revenge after a bear eats his girlfriend.

Wayans Jr., whose credits include the much-beloved “Happy Endings” as well as his disappearance and then reappearance on the hit “New Girl,” will be joined by Jessy Hodges (“Indebted”), Alex Karpovsky (“Girls”) and Nate Torrence (“Hello Ladies”).

Wayans Jr., who will also serve as an executive producer, plays Hank, described as a “charming, funny and grieving man who’s hell-bent on tracking down the bear who attacked his girlfriend on a camping trip.” “Kill the Orange-Faced Bear” will be told both from Hank’s point of view, as well as the Pov of the bear, “who is just trying to move on from the incident and navigate the other idiot bears in her life.”

Exclusive: Voltage Pictures has taken worldwide rights to American Boogeywoman, based on the early life of one of America’s most notorious female serial killers, Aileen Wuornos. Charlize Theron won an Oscar for playing her in the 2003 film Monster.

Currently in postproduction, the film stars Cobra Kai star Peyton List as young Wuornos and is written and directed by horror filmmaker Daniel Farrands.

List is joined by veteran genre actor Tobin Bell (“Jigsaw” from the Saw franchise), Lydia Hearst (The Haunting of Sharon Tate), Nick Vallelonga (Green Book), Swen Temmel, Meadow Williams, and Andrew Biernat (Shadow’s Edge).

Fox has put in development G-Men, a multi-camera family comedy from writer Luke Cunningham (The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon), Austen Earl (Happy Together) and 20th Century Fox TV.

Written by Cunningham, G-Men follows two estranged brothers — who both claim to be government agents, even though one is a hardcore FBI agent and the other’s a part-time mailman — struggle to put their vast differences aside when they reunite to help their larger-than-life mother move on after the death of their father. They hate this new arrangement at first, but ultimately they realize that sometimes it’s the people you agree with the least who inspire you to be your best.

Cunningham and Earl executive produce. The project is a co-production between 20th Century Fox TV and Fox Entertainment.

Cunningham was a writer on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and moved to The Tonight Show with Fallon as a writer for the first three seasons.

The network has given a script commitment to “G-Men,” a multi-camera comedy from the pair that hails from 20th Century Fox TV and Fox Entertainment.

We still have much to learn about Clerks 3, which Kevin Smith now seems determined to make. But at the very least, the soundtrack is probably going to rock, literally, as former My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way is set to provide the score for the movie. Disney Plus will reek of children as Hocus Pocus sequel opens a new chapter in an ungodly book.

Sanderson sisters Sarah, Winifred, and Mary will resurrect from their second deaths, and we didn't have wait three hundred years for a virgin to light a candle. A sequel to the 1993 cult horror comedy Hocus Pocus is in development at Disney Plus, according to Collider. Workaholics' writer and co-producer Jen D’Angelo is already signed to write the screenplay.

Bette Midler (The First Wives Club), Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex and the City), and Kathy Najimy (King of the Hill), who starred in the original Hocus Pocus, have not committed to a return yet. There is also no word on whether they would have lead parts or be there to hand off their broomsticks to a new generation of dark magicians.

Disney is taking another stab at developing a new incarnation of the 1993 cult classic feature Hocus Pocus, which starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy. This time it’s through the Walt Disney movie studio which produced the original for the upcoming streaming platform Disney+.

The new film, now in early stages of development, will be written by TV writer producer Jen D’Angelo It is unclear whether it will be a true sequel but there is hope that Midler, Parker and Najimy could reprise their roles in some shape or form.

The Hocus Pocus followup, first reported by Collider, is consistent with Disney+’s programming strategy of mining the Disney movie library for reboots and sequels, starting with the new live-action/CGI Lady and the Tramp film, which is part of the streamer’s launch slate.

A sequel to the 1993 cult hit “Hocus Pocus” is in development for Disney+, with ‘Workaholics” writer and co-producer Jen D’Angelo attached to write the script.

Details about the sequel’s plot are not currently known. The original film starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as three cursed witches from the 1690s who are resurrected 300 years later and must acclimate to the 20th century while performing several nefarious deeds in order to undo the curse. According to Collider, which first reported the news, D’Angelo is attempting to bring Midler, Parker, and Najimy back for the sequel, though they are not currently attached to the film.

Disney did not immediately respond to a request for comment from TheWrap.

Disney Plus has launched development of a sequel to 1993’s fantasy comedy “Hocus Pocus” with “Workaholics” writer and co-producer Jen D’Angelo on board to script.

The original “Hocus Pocus” starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as a trio of witch sisters who have been cursed since 1693 in Salem, Ma. The witches are are inadvertently resurrected 300 years later by a boy whose family has moved from Los Angeles to Salem.

However, as the witches try to acclimate to the 20th Century, they discover — to their horror — that Halloween has become a holiday. Midler, Parker and Najimy are not attached to the sequel but Disney is hopeful that they may become involved.

Kenny Ortega directed the original from a script by Mick Garris and Neil Cuthbert, based on a story by Garris and David Kirschner. Omri Katz played the young male lead, and his sister was portrayed by Thora Birch.

NBC is in tune with “Perfect Harmony” executive producer Jason Winer, developing another show from Winer’s 20th Century Fox TV-based Small Dog Picture Company. The Peacock network has bought the script “Forever Family,” a comedy from writers Austen Earl and Joel Church-Cooper.

Winer will serve as a non-writing executive producer on “Forever Family,” which centers on three different families that live “miles away but worlds apart” and who discover that their adopted children all share the same birth father. Earl and Church-Cooper will executive produce the project, along with Winer and Jon Radler, who heads up development at Small Dog.

“Forever Family” is part of a growing slate for Winer, who sealed a new overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV, now a part of Disney, earlier this year. Winer has been based at 20th for 13 years, and his current credits include “Perfect Harmony,” which premiered on NBC last month,...

Exclusive: Prolific multi-cam director Phill Lewis (Happy Together) has been tapped to direct the first batch of episodes for Netflix's new comedy series The Big Show Show.

Starring WWE superstar The Big Show (real name Paul Wight) the family comedy comes from WWE Studios and writers Josh Bycel (Happy Endings) and Jason Berger (La to Vegas). Filming is slated to begin Aug 9.

Marvel announced at Comic-Con it was officially setting “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” for Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The reveal included an exciting casting note: Tony Leung, the legendary Hong Kong actor famous for appearing in Wong Kar-wai films such as “In the Mood for Love” and “Happy Together,” is starring in the tentpole as the villainous Mandarin. The casting allows the McU to introduce the real Mandarin after providing a fake out in “Iron Man 3,” which cast Ben Kingsley as the character but included a twist that revealed he was just an actor posing as the real Mandarin.

In a new interview with CinemaBlend to promote “Hobbs & Shaw,” screenwriter Drew Pearce said he’s excited the real Mandarin will properly debut in the McU thanks to “Shang-Chi.” Pearce also wrote the Marvel short film “All Hail the King,” which centered on Kingsley’s sham Mandarin in prison.

The Red Line has reached the final stop at CBS. 

The Eye network has swung the ax on the freshman drama after one low-rated season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"[The show] did not get picked up for a second season, so it will exist as an elegant novel," co-showrunner Sunil Nayar revealed to the website at the Atx Television Festival.

The Red Line ultimately averaged 3.85 million total viewers and a CW-esque 0.36 rating in the adults 18-49 demo.

It was the network's second-lowest rated scripted drama, coming in marginally ahead of Saturday drama Ransom. 

The Noah Wyle fronted drama focused on a white cop in Chicago who mistakenly shoots and kills a back doctor.

At the Upfronts earlier this month, a spate of freshman and sophomore series led by actors of color that were initially greenlit seemingly in order to address broadcast TV’s representation problem were canceled, including “The Passage,” “The Fix” and “Happy Together.” This caused some initial concern that networks may not be as enthusiastic about ongoing attempts at diversity, but as Fall 2019 new series orders were unveiled, the picture proved to be more assuring.

As broadcast TV networks set their 2019-2020 programming lineups, diversity concerns still very much remain at the fore, as Hollywood overall continues to be under pressure to address its historical erasure of characters of color in front of and behind the camera. TV continues to outpace film in both regards, with recent improvement on how voices and stories from all walks of life are embraced within the space.

“The Kids Are Alright”: Obvious and heartless pun aside, the family comedy won’t see a second season. The series was inspired by the childhood of creator/executive producer Tim Doyle, and focuses on a traditional Irish-Catholic family in the 1970s.

“The Fix”: About a district attorney’s redemption after suffering a “devastating defeat,” the freshman drama won’t get a second chance to make its case. It starred Robin Tunney, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Scott Cohen, and was executive produced and co-written by Marcia Clark (lead prosecutor in the O.J. Simpson case).

CBS has canceled a quartet of shows.

Three of those, “Fam,” “Happy Together,” and “Murphy Brown,” will come to and end after only one season, while “Life In Pieces” will end after its fourth season, which is currently airing.

The “Life In Pieces” news comes only five episodes into season 4. So far, it is averaging a 0.84 rating in the key 18-49 demographic and 5.75 million viewers per episode, which represents a dip on last season which averaged a 1.11 rating and just under 6.5 million total viewers.

CBS’ freshman comedy Happy Together, headlined by Damon Wayans Jr., will not be coming back for a second season. The cancellation came within an hour or so of Fox pulling the plug on Lethal Weapon, starring Wayans’ father, Damon Wayans.

The writing was pretty much on the wall when the multi-camera Happy Together did not get a back order in the fall. Odds of a fall freshman series getting a renewal after failing to secure a back order are usually slim.

Happy Together, from writers Tim McAuliffe and Austen Earl, underperformed in the ratings but had a few things going for it.
