The purpose of serie is just popularisation of the life of the last Romanovs. And it does this in decent manner. Sure, the commentaries of writers and historians are not the best, the performances are acceptable, the physical rasamblance - not always most inspired. But the episode represents only the frame of story. And, starting from this point, the serie is promising.Yes, the colors white and black are so powerful than the nuances are compromised. But this episode is the first. And the rhytm seems good.
