Jenna Ortega has officially evolved from a Disney princess to a scream queen. In just a few short years, the Gen Z star has left her mark in horror with successful movies (both in existing franchises and helping to kickstarting a new one), while also helping revitalize Tim Burton's career as his muse in two highly popular titles.
Though Ortega had already appeared in big movies like "Iron Man 3" (in a small role as the Vice President's daughter) and had a recurring role on "Jane the Virgin" a decade ago, it wasn't really until after the pandemic that Ortega broke big, especially in the horror landscape. It helped, of course, that Ortega appeared in four horror films in 2022 alone. She was a protagonist of the "Scream" reboot alongside Melissa Barrera, subverting the franchise's iconic kitchen murder scene by surviving her encounter with Ghostface. Then she appeared in the...

This is a quick guide on how to use Fae Sight to get a better feel of the landscape and to see if there are any looming threats in Metaphor: ReFantazio. The game developers could not help themselves but borrow notes from the Persona franchise, and establish a sense of familiarity for the player base.
The Fae Sight mechanic can be used from a safe distance and for the protagonist to gauge whether they are prepared to enter an area. This useful mechanic will allow players to identify whether the nearby enemies are easy to defeat depending on their color levels or not.
This Is How to Use Fae Sight Effectively and Efficiently The Fae Sight can tell players if they are fit to take on certain foes in Metaphor: ReFantazio.
Studio Zero decided to reflect on other great projects from the same publisher like Persona 5 and carried over certain gameplay mechanics and features.

Studio Zero’s Metaphor: ReFantazio is a brilliant rebuttal to those who think that politics have no place in video games. If the screaming metaphor of the title weren’t clear enough, the game’s opening sequence begins by flipping open a book as an unseen voice breaks the fourth wall, asking you to name not just the protagonist, but yourself, the person who will be guiding them. Every inch of what follows in this stylish fantasy successor from the Persona team is a message to you about the perils of unchecked anxiety and the societal ills that stem from inequality and discrimination. Not for nothing are the monsters in this world called Humans.
The extent of ReFantazio’s subtlety is in slapping a magical steampunk sheen over everything to provide some distance from what’s essentially a playable election. Guidance through your Archetypal class-based transformations is provided by a...

Metaphor: ReFantazio is one of those rare video game gems that does not even wait for the player to actually start playing it before the appreciation for the title already begins to take over.
While Persona fans have been waiting for the sixth mainline installment, Atlus has been spending its time in the most effective way possible, as the debut title by Studio Zero has managed to create its own distinct path in the Jrpg space while simultaneously sticking to the strengths of what made the best entries in the series so memorable to begin with.
Which should not exactly be a surprise considering that veteran Persona developers were helming the project, but the end result has proven to be extraordinarily remarkable, bringing a brand new IP to the forefront of the genre and leaving an extremely strong impact that not many games have been able to achieve in recent times.

“Metaphor ReFantazio is fantasy Persona” is the sentiment that circulated widely before Atlus’ latest RPG launched on Oct. 11, 2024. It’s an apt description on the surface, but an unhelpful one for folks who haven’t the foggiest idea what a Persona game is. Sure, Metaphor ReFantazio shares some basic things in common with Persona. They’re both turn-based RPGs with a big focus on characters and a penchant for using psychology to inform their fundamental ideas. They even come from the same development team.

Bandai Namco and Spike Chunsoft’s incredible work has made Dragon Ball Sparking Zero a resounding success among fans eagerly awaiting the return of Budokai Tenkaichi.
This game offers a large selection of characters and truly unbelievable graphic quality, thanks to the power of the Unreal Engine. This is why other popular anime or manga should also have the opportunity to receive a game of such high quality and budget as Sparking Zero.
Below are some anime and manga that could have a game with the quality of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

This manga, created by Tatsuki Fujimoto, was very well received when it was finally adapted into an animated format.

Metaphor: ReFantazio invites players into a rich fictional world crafted by prolific game studio Atlus. At first glance, its fantasy kingdom of Euchronia seems like a standard sword and sorcery setting, but appearances can be deceiving. As I ventured through this realm, I encountered challenging themes that felt strikingly relevant—inequality, racism, corruption of power.
Yet Euchronia isn’t just a reflection of real issues. Its narrative experiments with distorting reality, casting our own world as the mystical realm yearned for within the game. You take control of a player character who owns a forbidden book portraying an idealized version of modern society, free from prejudice. But only you, the real player behind the screen, recognize this “utopia” as our current reality.
This twist sparked my curiosity around Metaphor’s further experiments in metafiction. How might it continue blurring boundaries between fantasy and truth? And what deeper insights could emerge from such unconventional storytelling?...

During an online Ama this past Friday, Francis Ford Coppola shared some factoids about his recently released sci-fi epic “Megalopolis,” including a list of influences he posted on Letterboxd. The list includes films adapted from the works of H.G. Wells, historical epics, erotic dramas, and many more. Upon examining each individually, it’s easy to see how they all had effect on Coppola’s ultimate vision on a new Roman Empire and an architect trying to bring about change.
Starring Adam Driver and featuring performances from Aubrey Plaza, Jon Voight, Nathalie Emmanuel, Shia Labeouf, Talia Shire, and Giancarlo Esposito, “Megalopolis” premiered at Cannes, where it received a mixed reception. In IndieWire’s review of the film, David Ehrlich wrote, “After more than 40 years of idly fantasizing about the project (and more than 20 years of actively trying to finance it), Coppola is bringing ‘Megalopolis’ to screens at a moment when his...

There was a period of time in the Eighties where the Japanese developer was more amenable to adult-oriented content like Famicom Detective Club, a murder mystery adventure duology published in 1988.
While the original games were never released outside of Japan, Nintendo remade them for Switch in 2021, bringing the series to international audiences for the first time. With over 143 million Switch consoles sold worldwide so far, it’s...

You’ve probably heard something Colin Young has worked on before. Whether it be in one of his bands or interviewing one of your favorite musicians on the Hardlore Podcast (which he co-hosts with Harms Way’s Bo Lueders), Young is a man whose enthusiasm for music is matched only by his spinkick prowess. But where does all of that energy come from? I spoke with Young to learn how part of it comes from bonding with others over Dragon Ball in school, mixing Dragon Ball Z: Budokai with Pantera, and his deep appreciation for the medium of animation. I feel like half, if not three-fourths, of our audience is looking up anime edits on Tiktok. Are you a part of that group? Colin Young : Dude, if I wake up before 6am and I can't go back to sleep, I'm on Tiktok watching Dragon Ball Z compilations. I'm watching Future Trunks music video edits,...

Ingmar Bergman is the Oscar-winning Swedish auteur who helped bring international cinema into the American art houses with his stark, brooding dramas. But how many of his titles remain classics? Let’s take a look back at 25 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1918 in Uppsala, Sweden, Bergman started off as a screenwriter before moving into directing. His early hits “Summer with Monika” (1953), “Sawdust and Tinsel” (1953) and “Smiles of a Summer Night” (1955) helped make him a favorite amongst American audiences hungry for world cinema.
He hit his stride in 1957 with a pair of noteworthy titles: “Wild Strawberries” and “The Seventh Seal.” Both films dealt with the absence of God and the inevitability of mortality — the former concerning an aging professor (Victor Sjostrom) coming to terms with his life, the latter focusing on a medieval knight (Max von Sydow) playing a game of chess with Death (Bengt Ekerot...

The Dragon Quest series has always been popular in Japan and Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age managed to put the series on the map internationally with its critical consensus. Now, Square Enix is hard at work developing the next mainline entry, Dragon Quest Xii: The Flames of Fate . Square Enix is also working on a remake of Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation . This remake is in the HD-2D style, similar to games like Octopath Traveler and the Live a Live remake. While this game is the third in the series, Dragon Quest III is chronologically the first in the original Dragon Quest trilogy. I was able to check out a one-hour demo of the Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake and it has the charm of an old school-rpg but with modern quality-of-life features. It’ll please veteran fans of the series but also appeal to new fans.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is Atlus’ brand new IP. Atlus is well known for creating the Persona series, but now the studio is taking what it's learned over the past several decades to take a stab at the fantasy genre rather than the typical Japanese high school life. I went hands-on with Metaphor: ReFantazio at Summer Game Fest 2024, spending one hour split across three different self-contained portions of the game. Unsurprisingly, Metaphor: ReFantazio feels very familiar to Persona in terms of core gameplay loop, but it still manages to stand out in several ways in its story, gameplay mechanics, and characters. Related: Fitness Boxing Feat. Hatsune Miku Gets in the Ring on Switch This Fall The first portion of the demo was called “Scenario,” which showed off some of the game’s story. It introduced Gallica, the protagonist's fairy companion. Much like Persona , the protagonist can choose different dialogue options to respond to other characters.

It isn’t the best time to be a Persona fan for multiple reasons, starting off with the lack of a sixth mainline numbered installment in the series. Rabbit & Bear Studios has meticulously crafted a Jrpg that’s not only worthy of praise but also an acknowledgment of the undying formula that makes this genre so special. Yoshitaka Murayama’s tragic passing has left a dent in millions of hearts. Before I get into the details of Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, I would like to acknowledge that this game has paid homage to both – the genre itself, and the undying legacy of Yoshitaka Murayama.
That being said, this review comes from the heart of someone who cherishes heartfelt storytelling, diverse characters, and a world that wraps itself in mystery. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is made by people who celebrate the intricacies of a detailed adventure. However, its unsurprising turn of events and predictability often left me wanting more.
Heads up: Even though the story and combat mechanics have a lot to them, this review is going to be spoiler-free.

Mémoire Vive is starring Six Women’s Clémentine Célarié as Esther Lefevre, the reinterpreted female lead from the Turkish series, which has been greenlit for a second run. The French version is being produced by Calt Studio for M6.
The Turkish original stars International Emmy-winner Haluk Bilginer as the antihero Agâh. In the second season, Agâh, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, regains his memories piece by piece when his daughter takes him into her care.
