Chapter Eight: The Battle of Starcourt

When Hopper is loading up the gun from the dead Russian security guard, you can see Robin hop up on the counter in the background. Then, the camera angle changes, and as it's panning over from Hopper to Erica, you can see Robin walk over and start to hop onto the counter again.

Suzie said that Plancks constant is 6.62607004, but when Hop enters the pass code, he uses only 6 digits with the last 4 being 6264.

When Dustin calls Suzie to get Planck's Constant, the sky over Salt Lake City clearly shows a night sky full of stars, which on the 4th of July would put the time there after 11:00 PM. This would mean that it's after 1:00 AM on July 5th in Hawkins, since the two places are separated by two time zones. When the mind flayer is killed, there is a shot of the blue and yellow clock, showing it to be 11:50 PM in Hawkins, over an hour earlier than it would have been that dark in Salt Lake City.

When the kids leave the mall and are driving to the antenna hill, it seems to take a long time. Yet when they're on the hill, they can see the mall clearly, as though the hill is overlooking the mall from a half-mile away.

When El hugs Hopper on the mall fountain, she pulls away and looks at him, her thumb lands at the top of his collar near his neck. In the next shot her hand is much lower on his shoulder.

Factual errors

When Suzie and Dustin were singing on the ham radio, both their voices were being transmitted simultaneously. That is called full duplex as in a telephone connection. This is impossible on the short wave frequency they were using which only supports simplex, as in one voice at a time.

Dustin & Suzie make a ~1500 mile Ham radio contact from Indiana to Utah at night on a frequency of 14.158[MHz]. Such radio contacts rely upon atmospheric ionization provided by the sun, and would be unusable when darkness covers both locations.

While Dustin should be able to hear Suzie (if the conditions were suitable) there is no way those with hand-held radios would be able to pick up her transmission, especially deep underground with plenty of metal shielding.

After rolling the car, Mike says "told you -- physics." Yet no one is holding their metal stanchion in a way that would increase their mechanical advantage. If anything, their final attempt required more strength than pushing on the car with their hands directly.

When Dustin and Suzie are talking, Suzie refers to Planck's Constant as a "mathematical equation". Planck's Constant is a number that links a photon's energy to its frequency of its electromagnetic wave. It is a quantity that is important in quantum physics. It is not an equation.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

When the station wagon wouldn't start, Johnathan said the ignition cable's gone. But they appear to all be there.

Miscellaneous

When the camera is panning through the Starcourt parking lot in the aftermath of the final battle the muzzle of one of the M-60Ds mounted on the UH-1s is seen waving around randomly as though someone is playing around with it. Even if it was one of the kids no US Army helicopter crewman would allow someone to play with a loaded automatic weapon.

Anachronisms

Suzie claims Planck's constant is 6.62607004, but that measurement is from 2014.

In the "three months later" scene, when the "Cutting Edge" starts, you can see two white modern window air conditioners, one Haier and one LG. In 1985 window ACs weren't white (usually beige, or dark green) and had spine fin coils instead of radiator coils.

The Wheeler Family station wagon is a Ford with a 5.0 HO engine (you can see this when the hood is opened). But the engine is fuel injected (no carburetor), which wasn't available on the 5.0 HO engine until 1986. It's doubtful that in July of 1985 that the Wheelers would have a 1986 Ford.
