melodrama with the lot....
hamlet-1614 November 2018
"Toto I don't think we are in Midsomer anymore"

When KDrama goes full on melodrama they do it with style!

The plot involving a top news anchor and her husband whose relationship is on the rocks... a high flying golfer ... a death that might be murder.... an ambitious young news reader ... mysterious people from the past... a determined detective ...you get the idea!

But it is the style, design, cinematography (which is truly breathtaking at times) and quality of the acting that make Misty worth watching.

This is not Hitchcock ... or Midsomer Murders but give it a chance and enjoy the ride!

Long-winded
lilou-clark27 December 2021
The story is interesting but lengthy and I wished for an other perpetrator and end.

My impression is that there is always a lot of talk in KDramas, but never what is really important, but maybe it has to do with the culture. Or why wouldn't the leading lady tell her husband that the golfer is her ex-boyfriend, he's bugging her and she's dealing with it. None of this would have happened.

The detective, yes that certainly happens a lot, that they so doggedly want to blame someone and then don't investigate neutrally, but they didn't really follow up on any clues; last call (much later) fingerprints and DNA on airbag. Why did the young presenter call the golfer, why did he have to leave right after the phone call?

Why didn't anyone say it was an accident? It wasn't a murder, sure he covered it up which made it worse, but if he had reported it right away?

The one in the newsroom (not Mr. Jang) was super annoying, but there's one of those in every KDrama.

Immaculate acting in a stylish & tense drama
JosChimes13 July 2021
I've just finished watching this engrossing award winning drama - it was too intense to binge, but is definitely worth watching for the immaculate performances of. Kim Nam-joo &Ji Jin-hee with Jeon Hye-jin and excellent overall casting and suspenseful storyline. Without giving away too much, my main conclusion, which wasn't really mentioned in the script, is the impact that predatory men can have on the lives of women and how we have to manage around that - and of course the lives of other men can be badly affected too. The themes of motivation, communication & emotional distance are constantly highlighted in a variety of intricate ways - via personal relationships, family status and wider communication through the media. Nothing about this is light hearted, but the main characters are unforgettable.

How can I love the show while hating the heroine?
Hwangkidong10 October 2020
A really captivating drama with the central theme of marriage disappointment, interspersed with a murder mystery, cutthroat workplace shenanigans, conspiracy and legal drama. While some of the twists and turns are not exceptionally original, I must say I was impressed by the ending. Not totally different from what I was expecting yet it was delivered in such a way that took me by surprise. Perhaps the biggest reason I give this drama a thumbs up is that, despite my revulsion with the heroine's character during most of the show, I was nonetheless thoroughly glued to her story till the very end, and even ended up routing for her. Highly recommended - as long as you're not looking for a comedy.

A real cliff hanging who done it
Dillydaydream20 August 2020
A famous Korean golfer lays dead in his crashed car - but what was the cause of death? Did he die because of the crash- or was he murdered. One dogged and determined detective is convinced it was murder. But who did it- was it his lover from the past who is now a famous news anchor and whose brooch was found in his car. Or someone else- or was it just a car accident. If the news anchor is convicted of murder a lot of influential people will be pleased so is there a plot against her? This is a brilliantly written drama with a faultless cast. It keeps you guessing to the end and I have to say the end was totally unexpected.

A very heartbreaking drama
raissapramudi9 September 2019
This drama will make the viewers fall in love with the characters and feel their pain. That is why it so heartbreaking. I could not stop thinking how sad this drama is.

This drama also has a good moral values. It opened our mind of law and media. Two things that have great impact on government. It taught us how we should keep our principle even in the hardest situation.

Overall I really love this drama. This is an adult drama because I think kids or teenagers will not fully understand and feel this drama.

Amazing acting, ending is unsatisfactory
big_O_Other26 July 2022
Korean actors perform amazing feats, sometimes just with their eyes alone. This series is no exception, as the whole thing largely depends on the subtly changing face of the principal actress who rarely speaks but her face tells all. It was pitch perfect until the end, and I wish it had just quit after episode 14. But the entire cast was terrific, the story wonderful so it is worth watching.

Nam-ju Kim Best Actress Very Strong
elizabeta-7546815 April 2022
I was surprised how smart her character was. She could convince people in such a way that I was shocked. A master with words and with grace and confidence. I would like to be as strong as her. Her husband was so sacrificial. I wish I could find a husband like her.

Typical Court Drama with an Un-expected Ending...
superstore887 July 2020
This KDrama is quite slow moving for me,,,,with a predictable ending partially....then suddenly the writer went out of bounds and created a silly ending......just to make a very simple story become different with a twist...It's hard to admire the lady star...though she looks pretty but she is so thin...making her look weird....I don't see any change of facial expressions from beginning to end specially the male character...You need a lot of patience to enjoy watching this show....

THE k-drama
soneagu5 September 2023
I have watched tons of k-dramas, I liked lots of them, cherished some of them, absolutely adored this one! The first 2 and a half or 3 episodes were the absolute best of a certain genre (directing, scenario and play of female lead are mesmerizing!). I watched it because of the male lead that I liked a lot in "Designated Survivor: 60 days", however the female lead is hypnotizing from one end to the other. The series is great (director, scenarist, make-up artists, basically everyone involved is at the top of the cinematography game), but the last episode is so poetic that I really couldn't focus on anything else the entire day (of course I spent the entire night watching it to the end). Maybe there are better shows in the world on this theme, but I have very very serious doubts!

Ok time killer
madbird-6124316 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I watch this drama because of the male lead. I run through it though as I find the plot a bit not sensible. The tennis champion can so easily be killed by the female, or the male lead?

Anyway the acting of all the actors are amazing, particularly the female lead. It is reported that the male lead did not know he was the murderer when acting in the first ten episodes. The director did this purposefully???

In a span of 3 yrs Kdramas tightens up
dumsumdumfai18 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was a 2018 series of 16 episodes. Starting in 2021, I saw some Kdramas has tighten up to 12 or 10, even 8 episodes. That's how quick a change comes and hoe adaptable they are.

There's a formula to this series like many others of their times. The open and end of the episode is of the current time, here the murder investigation. The 2nd timeline, the meat of the show is the lead up to the murder. While a third time line is any other past memories that built each character s back story.

Eventually the investigation will take over as the meat. But still there's way too many 'stretch moment' where a 10 second scene becomes 2-5 minutes multi angle, slo-mo emotional stirrup. That just detracts to the acting and story. But still the story is not hard to follow.

I'm now up to 4 episode and can feel the padding to 16 episodes is unavoidable and unnecessary. Hope I'm wrong. Will update.

Update1.

Up to 8th and it's strange to have the integrity of the character shown so late in the series. Also the men are so weak in this. Guess that's not the target audience. The twist and turn are not that shocking but the police character are just sit ins scratching their heads. And they didn't check the call log until arrest and interrogation?????

Update 2 So coming down the stretch, it's clear the murder is secondary. The political battles and media indepence and objectivity is the point. However, from just before the invalid arrest scene you can guess who did the deed. Yet, the slow-mo, repeat from different angles drags on.

Update 3 The twist with eP 16 is just ridiculous. 6 rating is generous.

Are you happy ?
alaningle79 July 2020
A star news anchor is accused of murder and her estranged husband who is a lawyer defends her. The female lead is outstanding in this as she plays a ruthless ambitious journalist who will stop at nothing for the truth. The plot twist is a bit obvious and there are a few annoying characters and events but the main cast keep your interest. An original look at a relationship and what we may think is love.

It's a great show but---
sallykfoury27 November 2021
I like everything about the show except for the annoying detective. The character is meant to be smart but this detective is not. This is what made me mad. The role and his character are so exaggerated. He's not realistic at all. I was annoyed that made me sometimes skip his part. Not convinced at all with his role.

Should be a 10, but...
balletteacher24 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Being a lover of newsroom dramas, this was a MUST-SEE for me. I was completely hooked because the Koreans have a knack of writing up the most incredible plots...making me completely absorbed episode after episode. One will delight at the back room gossips; the back-stabbing; the pursuit of power. This also showed the power of the media and how it can influence norms and a whole mind-set in certain free countries.

Sadly, during the last 5 episodes, when the courtroom drama and murder mysteries were being solved, things started getting confusing, jumbled and well...it started falling apart for me. My heart started dropping when my hope of a rekindled romance started fading away. The appearance of characters from the past, the jealousies of co-workers in a tension-filled newsroom, the corrupt CEO's and law firms, the vengeful ex-best friend. What more can you ask for? One thing I also dislike in ALL Kdramas: why do the characters love to drink to death???

The two leads, played by the very ultra-slim and stoic Nam-Ju Kim and the very dashing and handsome Jin-hee Ji, we're terrific from start to finish. Their strange relationship was a bit annoying at times. The lies that they both kept from each other were frustrating me as an audience. Ms. Kim played that cold-hearted bitch part to the hilt, but I'm not sure why the director told her to never eat in scenes where she looked like she hadn't eaten in days! Again, not a good image of health at all! Mr. Ji was smoldering in his love for his wife, he remained strong throughout until his cowardly turn at the end. Ugh!!

The supporting characters were all terrific! My favorites were the JVC News Boss, played by Lee Kyung-young and the best friend/reporter, Soo-Jin Kim.

Costumes get an A-plus! Ms. Kim's outfits were classy and elegant and she carried them well. Just like a ramp model! The men's suits...wow!

Wish I could've given this a 10...

Clever, stylish, and unsettling
cheshire-1290714 April 2022
Each shot in this well-thought-out show is beautifully aesthetic, and the plot intricately designed to weave together a slow-moving yet gripping drama. The editing is slick and each of the actors were excellent. Almost none of the characters were decent people, but the writers did a fantastic job of making each of their decisions perfectly understandable and, in some cases, relatable. The twist at the end, once you reach it, seems simultaneously horrifying and inevitable - the one thing this show is not is uplifting! Overall a gripping and clever drama that was well planned from start to finish.

Wasted hours that I can't get back. Watched to end to see how it would end. Don't recommend. Main actress is a total B@(&!. Face doesn't move, no expression, too much Botox. Monotone voice.

IT DRAGGED
pjkblue-3592612 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Sixteen episodes but it could have been whittled down to ten. Lots of meaningless scenes where the characters are being so reflective, with internal angst. Granted there are scenes that invoke a sense of drama, even melodrama, but these characters are just so morbidly mopey it's just blah moments.

The husband, the golfer and the first boyfriend are so insipidly weak and infatuated with such a cold and vindictive woman that it is well beyond belief, as well as each male being incredibly stupid.

The ending - last few episodes - were so jumbled. I guess the writers wanted to keep viewers guessing and it became an overstuffed bag of murder suspects.

My ending would have been similar to "Primal Fear". The lead anchorwoman is so conniving, so cold and heartless that she actually killed the golfer, but it worked out that she gets cleared of murder while someone else (one of the idiot guys) gets the jail time.

Soap
nash@iit.edu21 April 2022
A mediocre drama, basically a Korean soap, good for watching if you are bored in the afternoon. Difficult to feel involved or any empathy for any of the characters. Good cinematography and acting, but the directing style is cliched and the scriptwriting is mediocre. This is a common problem with modern TV dramas, it seems they spend a lot on the actors and sets and very little for good quality scriptwriters.

Misty, more than mystifying
marishkagrayson3 October 2022
All the gorgeous actors and attire cannot detract from the fact that the script is weak. This thriller depends on the fact that they assume the viewers are ignorant of modern forensic techniques. Unfortunately, modern forensic techniques forces such stories to either be historical fiction (prior to 1980) or simplistic renditions of murder mysteries that don't rely on investigative techniques. Forensics are able to determine whether a corpse has been moved after the time of death, any foreign particles embedded in wounds and tissue, fibres left behind by perps, DNA, spittle, hair and so much more. Simply wiping down a crime scene is no longer enough to cover up microscopic evidence. This story relied on the fact that the viewer would never be given a complete reenactment of the accident/homicide. How was the suspect supposed to have committed this act? All the detective could point out was a damning brooch? What about the dashcam in other people's cars to prove their alibis? Evidence is left out, no one is questioned properly, the detective acts sorely on gut instinct? Is this the 1950's? It felt like it, a noir with a beautiful femme fatale coincidentally named "Helena". Things move around her like mist (title of the story), dark forces that she cannot control but she's strong-willed, stubborn and uses her looks and wit to disarm and defend herself. All the while, the viewer is forced to endure her torment at the hands of a misogynistic culture that is bent on keeping her in her place. It's a red-herring, but also a criticism of society. It's clever, but alas not clever enough.

Greengrass Effect Sucks before and always
gilpangilinan11 November 2021
Misty is really great not until the camera shakes excessively. The Bourne Movies was ruined because of greengrass self proclaimed camera effect geez. Just a word of advice to all the cinematographers, cut the "trying hard shaky effect" on your future projects. *Face palm*
