NXT TakeOver - Philadelphia: Decent enough ppv though the finale was poor
NXT has been a bit ropey lately, too many stars have been called up onto the main roster especially from the womens division and what were left with is a mixed bag.
Looking at the lineup for this ppv there was only one match I was excited for and considered the whole thing would be predictible as hell.
The tag team match was solid enough, the outcome was inevitable but the guys did a decent enough job even if the finale looked a tad weak.
Ohno vs Dream was pitiful, botch filled and weirdly booked. Will say however that Dream is getting over way more than I expected him to.
Then came the womens championship, the one thing I was looking forward to and the one match I was unsure of the winner. Take the title off Ember so soon? Have Shayna win her debut match? It looked like they'd struggle to come up with a decent outcome, but I think they handled it well. The girls delivered a decent match and Shayna exceeded my expectations.
Black vs Cole round 2 in an extreme rules match was exactly what you'd expect, the two men pulled a blinder of a contest and the outcome I predicted wrong but was happy with.
And the main event, let's be clear I can't stand Andrade! The fact he's champion is laughable considering his record so I struggle to get into his matches. I'm not disputing he's talented because he is, he's just dull and unlikeable. This match was outstanding, truly amazing stuff with the fans entirely behind Gargano and I was riveted from start to finish. I think they booked the finish poorly, very poorly in fact but there is no taking away from the fact that the match was a masterclass.
Overall Takeover was a step up from recent efforts.
The Good:
Match quality was mostly excellent
Shayna looked fantastic most as a wrestler and a character
The Bad:
Fair few botches
Main event finale was just poor writing
Things I Learnt From This PPV:
Velveteen Dreams name must have been spoken over a hundred times during the course of the ppv
WWE have clearly given up on getting Kassisus into shape
