AGGRETSUKO: A.k.a. Aggressive Retsuko
Jinxxa_Wolf8 April 2022
Aggretsuko is a unique cartoon series that has a really great charm about it, even if I wasn't especially drawn to the art style at first. I must say that after a while it truly grows on you and suits the humor and overall vibe of the show really well.

Retsuko, the main character, is a polite, hard-working red panda, dealing with her highly frustrating and sexist work environment by doing death metal karaoke after hours, bonding with her female buds and sometimes getting hungover in the process. It's humorous, quirky and relatable in the sense of pent up frustrations many of us carry in our day to day lives. Through the show, she deals with many different situations, including pressures of society and social standards, dating, body image and the struggle to balance polite submissive business exterior with the internal frustrated feminist persona within. While this cartoon is pretty humorous it also deals with some interesting issues and keeps the viewer ever intrigued.

This show is more adult oriented without being heavily mature. I would define it as being more mildly adult. While it does have elements of adult themes such as mild language, alcohol, clubbing, and work related stresses, nothing very shocking comes to mind as far as rating. Overall this was a very fun watch. I would recommend giving it a chance, especially if you are into Japanese, chibi-cartoonish style anime, comedy, adult humor that hilariously blends cute anthropomorphic people, office work, feminism, modern social issues, and of course...death metal. Something quite different from the HelloKitty company Sanrio. Great fun.

Highly enjoyable...

When I first stumbled upon "Aggressive Retsuko", I must admit that I was a bit hesitant about the series. Why? Well, I have to say that the art style wasn't really impressive or all that appealing to me at first glance. But believe you me, it will grow on you, it most definitely will. Just give "Aggressive Retsuko" a chance, and you will be in for something great.

The storyline in "Aggressive Retsuko" is a little bit out there, so it is not something that will easily find a seating with just everyone in the audience. It can be something of an acquired taste. But this was right up my alley, and I am overly enjoying the absurdity and strangeness that there is to the series.

And the characters in the series are equally far out there as the storyline, so it is a great match, and the characters and storyline compliment another quite well, making it all the more enjoyable, provided this is something that falls into your liking, of course.

The art style is something that initially threw me off, as this was animals milling about and they had that traditional over-the-top-sugar-sweet Japanese cartoon appearance to them. But that just adds to the flavor, actually, especially once you get into the series and come to know the characters.

"Aggressive Retsuko" is a cartoon for a more mature audience, and I do like that about it. Yet at the same time, it manages to keep that innocence about it. And that is what makes "Aggressive Retsuko" work so nicely. Innocent right up until Retsuko starts singing. Then it just becomes hilarious.

For me then "Aggressive Retsuko" is one of those shows that come around not every so often, so it is a unique and very enjoyable series. And I am very happy that I opted to sit down and give the series a proper chance, because once I was over the initial hesitation, then "Aggressive Retsuko" just blew my mind.

My rating of "Aggressive Retsuko" lands on a well-deserved eight out of ten stars.

Relatable storyline
sisubalan31 July 2022
It gets better as its progressed especially after eps 4 season 1. Season 3 was the best for me. Then season 2 to season 1. Weakest was the season 4. Its a story retsuko's daily life and her struggle to deal with stress form her coworkers/work/love-romance/friendship/family & her anger issue. Recommended.

Brilliant and relatable, shame Netflix had to come and ruin it...
bismuth-2940310 March 2019
I found this show when I was in 10th grade, and I related to it immensely because some of my classmates were just THAT annoying, and, like Retsuko, I was forced to bottle up my frustrations until after school. However, also like Retsuko, I was determined to come back the next day with new resolve and do my best.

Unfortunately, Netflix's adaptation saw fit to completely sodomize Retsuko's character into being a lazy, unmotivated gold-digger whose character isn't feminist at all and pretty much winds up agreeing with her sexist boss. A THOUSAND DEATHS UPON NETFLIX AND EVERYONE WHO MADE THE ADAPTATION SUCK AS MUCH AS IT DID!

Don't watch this if you're an adult.

Only watch if you're a tween who loves to cringe. Tried first episode but lost 20 IQ points before finishing it. Honestly show is not even worth spending the time to write these 600 mandatory characters but here we are. The pink hippo is terrible, but so is the main character trash panda, or cat idk, who sings heavy metal. Doesn't help that heavy metal is a genre that I find very hard to listen to. But even if you do enjoy metal, just open Spotify and save yourself from this embarrassment. I have a friend who's obsessed with the show but also sleeps during Marvel movies... Gives you an idea of his tastes.
