Sex & Nudity

  • A woman is sitting on a piano and an older man comes up behinds her and beckons her to go upstairs with him. The scene cuts and we don't know if they did anything or not. A man is shown with no clothes on, but no nudity is shown.

Violence & Gore

  • There are a lot of scenes that show the Wendigo killing people and other animals. These scenes are for the most-part obscured or from a far away angle.
  • A young child traps and kills several small animals. The actual killing is offscreen, but the aftermaths are sometimes shown in detail.
  • We see a quick flash of a half-eaten body. It's easy to miss and not focused on.
  • The wendigo is found eating a dead bear's entrails towards the end of the film. Although gory, it is partially obscured by the dim lighting.
  • In an autopsy room, we see a mangled corpse lying on a table. It is decaying, has its face dug into, its legs dismembered, as well as other graphic wounds.

Profanity

  • 25 uses of "fuck" (although some are hard to hear and over half are used in the opening scene) and other crude uses of "pussy", "shit", "ass" and "faggot" (with some said by children in the context of bullying)
  • A boy is bullied and called a p*ssy, and the f slur. However this only happens once or twice.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The main character is implied to have a past addiction to alcohol due to being abused, but she doesn't act on it.
  • A pair of men use an abandoned mine shaft at the beginning of the film to manufacture and smuggle meth.
  • A woman references many people in the town to be drug runners and meth cooks. The main boy's father is one.
  • A man is briefly seen smoking a cigarette

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This movie is designed to be very intense and frightening, especially in the second half. The Wendigo's design in particular is grotesque and horrorific. Multiple scenes of a child interacting with his possessed father create an atmosphere of suspense.
  • There are very few jumpscares in the film, however, there is a very intense and dark atmosphere throughout its entire runtime which is used to built tension and make viewers feel uneasy through the whole runtime.
  • The entire film's atmosphere and look is very dark and depressing.
  • Towards the end of the film, there is a VERY effective jumpscare when an officer finds a young child hiding in a box.
  • The young boy is seen drawing acts of murder and cannibalism, as well as several sheets of paper that when put together reveal a demonic face.

Spoilers

Sex & Nudity

Violence & Gore

  • The young boy's father becomes possessed by the Wendigo and it causes the man to become animalistic with pointed teeth, bruised skin, disheveled hair and a taste for blood. He is often seen contorting himself in strange and unnatural ways.
  • When the father transforms into the Wendigo, his body cracks and contorts before antlers sprout from his mouth, tearing his jaw in half. The camera cuts away after a moment.
  • A police officer is killed suddenly and brutally by the Wendigo when it rams him with its antlers, piercing him through the back and thrashing him around. This kill is quick, but brutal.
  • A young boy is pounced on the Wendigo in the woods. He can be seen getting swiped at by the Wendigo, but it is shown blurred and in the background. Later his body is discovered by police, but no detail of what happens to him is shown.
  • The Wendigo is shown in full view at the end of the movie in grotesque fashion. Its body is an emaciated husk with ribs visible, exposed flanks and a skinned human face hanging from its own. It engages in a fight with the main character who rams its body several times with a pipe before she stabs it with a knife and cuts out its heart to kill it.
  • In the film's opening scene two men are attacked in a mineshaft by an unseen creature. One survives while the other's dismembered body is later found in the film. It is implied that a young boy is also attacked in this scene, however it is not shown onscreen.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The Wendigo attacks several people in a sudden and violent manner, namely by ramming them with its antlers. These attacks come abruptly and are very gory. People being thrashed about while the monster rips into them can be quite scary to younger viewers.
  • A possessed man attacks and starts eating a woman's face. This scene may be upsetting to some viewers.
  • A woman is forced to kill a young boy who has become infected with the Wendigo's spirit by repeatedly stabbing him in the heart in front of his older brother. This is done offscreen, but the scene is drawn out and both boys' screams and cries can be heard throughout. Very intense and disturbing.
  • A woman references being sexually abused by her father as a child throughout the film. Flashbacks from her point of view are seen. Nothing graphic is shown but may be disturbing to some viewers.
