Crime thriller in Director Bala's touch
parameswaranrajendran20 March 2018
Naachiyaar - Director Bala touch the topic of rape in the adolescent age in modern days. He already showing the garbage area in the title credit scene which potrays the surrounding society. Usually we can see most of his movie climax will be in sad or negative ending but this movie climax is vice versa. Furthermore, he never drag the screenplay but aptly done the judgement in 90 minutes with drama, crime and investigation genre. Actress Jyothika will get nominated for her character. Gv Prakash nadichitheleyeh urupudiyaneh paadam ithutaan. I will give 8/10 IMDB rating

Naachiyaar is not only the simplest but also the weekest in Bala's career..
shobanchittuprolu26 April 2018
Naachiyaar (2018):

As soon as we read the title card that says 'A Bala film', we expect a dark and disturbing film with a realistic approach to life.Be it his Pithamagan or Naan Kadavul and his last film Thaarai Thappattai,Bala's films are not for everyone. They are gut wrenching. But surprisingly Naachiyaar is his simplest drama till date..

Plot:

Two teenagers Kaathu (GV Prakash), a fruit vendor and Arasi (Ivana), a house maid meet and start liking each other. The film opens with a pregnant Arasi being nabbed by ACP Naachiyaar (Jyothika) and another team led by Feroz (Rockline Venkatesh) arresting Kaathu who is accused of raping a minor.

My Review:

The film caught everyone's attention when the teaser saw actor Jyothika swearing as part of her tough-as-nails cop avatar. For all the excitement this avatar generated though, Jyothika's Naachiyaar is something of a storm in a teacup, simply having a woman walk, talk and act like the male heroes we're so used to.

But the film is a love story of teenagers but landed in bigger trouble...Bala doesn't waste any time, as the theme of the film is established in the first couple of scenes itself. The characters are introduced, and their purposes are conveyed immediately. The film starts off on a comical note, with quite a few comedy scenes that don't drift away from the main plot. From there, the story flows into the romantic portions involving GV and Ivana. All these scenes are convincing enough but nothing special..Even second half which actually needed to be a nail biting investigation turns out dull...And, unlike in his previous films, there is no strong antagonist for her to square off against, which robs the character of strength and the film of drama..

So,Naachiyaar is not only the simplest but also the weekest in Bala's career..

My Rating 6.25/10

Not your typical Bala film!
harineem-209-52548815 August 2018
Usually you have to build yourself mentally for watching a Bala film. He makes movies with so passion and realism and with a nerve shattering end that you will take days to recover from the emotional hit. So this is a pleasant surprise with none of the emotional turmoil involved. Still a good watch with some fine acting. I have never liked GV Prakash as an actor and associate him with only C-grade cheap movies but he really pulls a surprisingly great performance. All credit to the director to extract such a performance. Even Jyothika, an actress known for over acting is very restrained.Ivana is the best of all! Overall a pleasant movie with a simple story with a filmy(unconvincing ) end. If you are a hardcore Bala fan please avoid, you will be disappointed. But you are looking for an interesting and light movie slightly better than usual masala movie, please go ahead.

One of Tamil cinema's finest neo-noir crime thriller!
navenkumarselva22 February 2018
Its easier to call it Naachiya' without the letter "R" as it is the name often used for Jyothika's character in this film. The film opens up with utmost intensity as the first few scenes set up the tone and mood of the film. As it is a Bala film, the tone and mood of the film is very Bala like, dark and gritty. All the characters has is well written and has a story to their existence. The story is simple and straight forward, but the interlink of present scenes and past scenes with some serious portion make this simple story feel like a thriller.

For one thing that is clear, GV Prakash completely transformed himself for this role. The chemistry between him and Ivana was seamless and pretty outstanding. The little romantic portions and comic portions proved to work out well. It showcased great performances as well as acting as a great comic relief in this dark thriller. Hats off to both for pulling off such a brilliant performance and huge credits to GV Prakash as this is the best he has done till date.

As for Jyothika, this is also one of her finest character's that she has played. Her manly attitude in a cop was extremely well executed and never seen before. Many of her scenes created goosebumps as she injected the audience with fear through her spine chilling interrogation scenes. She portrayed many expressions just by looking which is difficult to pull off. Hats off.

Illayaraja has proved to be evergreen with the classic he managed to string in this. The music set the tone from the beginning and Raja has proved it time and again that he is the king in his own genre. The gripping parts had you biting and the emotional part had you weeping towards the end. Amazing.

The technical part of this was excellent from cinematography to editing. Both were great and the editor done a great work putting the scenes together. Bala, the director has not failed to engross his audience is such a simple yet powerful script and to be able to extract such stunning performances from every character on screen is no pin task. This is another great film from Bala!

Another Performance Oriented Bala Movie
aji4u4ever10 November 2018
I started watching this movie without any expectations and ended up as good cop movie. The story revolves around a minor being raped and became pregnant. The initial suspect was Kaathu played by GV Prakash Kumar and the hot headed Asst. Commissioner takes it personal and investigates the case after discovering that the kid's DNA doesn't match with Kaath's DNA. And uncovers the truth.

Story was interesting and is a good one. We cannot find the usual Bala in this movie but he directed the movie well with excellent camera work with lots of aerial shots. The background Score did a pretty job to suit the mood and theme.. The maestro Ilaiyaraja was the one behind it.

Jo aka Jyotika Suriya excelled in her acting, and was top notch as the good tough hot headed cop. Her dialogue delivery, expressions were absolutely brilliant. The girl portrayed by Ivana was amazing in her role and the surprise package was GV Prakash Kumar's performance. He has also proved that he is an actor. Rockline Venkatesh Also delivered some good performance.

All in whole, the movie is worth watch and i really recommend not to miss this.

Disappointing
Jithindurden27 March 2018
It's sad when subject matters that are important in the concerned societies are taken and treated with such laziness. Not having all the usual Tamil commercial masala mixed in it is commendable but whatever shown in the film still looks overused in the industry. The acting all around is just average to ok and nothing more and Jyothika isn't convincing enough as the tough cop. The film feels too rushed from the script to execution and ends up very forgettable.
