Guy Ritchie is back with The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Based on what is allegedly the first “Black Ops” mission it’s a variation on The Dirty Dozen and all the knock-offs that followed, right up to and including Inglourious Basterds.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare opens with a boat having just been boarded by several members of the German Navy. As they pour gasoline over the deck, they tell its occupants they have the choice of staying on board and burning to death, or jumping overboard and drowning. For some reason, however, they don’t seem very worried.
From there we jump back 25 days, to Churchill watching newsreel footage about Hitler’s U-boats keeping American troops from entering the war.

With a title as bland as “Assassin Club”, one that seems to present the idea that screenwriter Thomas Dunn seemingly forgot to conjure up a better moniker for this Henry Golding thriller, it serves the dual purpose of describing a by-the-numbers globetrotting suspense-fest that could either drive the viewer into fits of boredom with the familiar beats it hits over and over again or act as a gateway drug for those new to the genre.

As befits its title, “Assassin Club,” begins with an elaborate action-heavy murder. Throughout the almost two hours it takes to unfold, the audience witnesses a few more. These intrigues unfold in a few European locales, though the locations are hardly striking, just places where the illusion of globetrotting can be created on a budget. It’s a B-movie through and through, yet one made with panache and attention to the action scenes. Director Camille Delamarre choreographs and shoots combat set-pieces in an exciting manner.
Henry Golding plays a master hitman whose latest mission is to find and kill six other assassins — the “club” of the title, though only one of his marks really matters. What transpires is more of a cat-and-mouse game between Golding’s killer and another one played by Noomi Rapace. Plot: An assassin is given a contract to kill seven people worldwide, only to discover the targets are also assassins who have been hired to kill him.
Review: I don’t think it’s shocking to say that Assassin Club is not a good movie. Anytime a film releases with a host of recognizable faces, and they seem to be dropping it as quietly as possible, the signs are not good. The film mostly seems to care about being “cool” versus providing an entertaining story. And given that it’s about an assassin who has to kill a bunch of other assassins, the roadmap seems simple. You’d be shocked at how much they fumble the bag here.
Henry Golding stars as Morgan, and while the premise seems like this guy would be intriguing, he’s mostly a bore. I couldn’t tell you one trait of this guy outside...

I'd thought, going into Assassin Club, that the tale of a hitman who discovers that he has to kill seven others before he gets killed himself might be riffing on Robert Sheckley's The Seventh Victim (filmed as The 10th Victim) or The Running Man or Fight Club or the latter John Wick films or almost anything else. In part that's because one doesn't expect a startling amount of originality from a film that seems to be named after a homicidal chocolate bar.
In retrospect it was wrong to hope for even that much. If it has a saving grace it's that it's not two hours long, and one hopes that those involved had some nice evenings out in Turin while filming. That's Turin which is called upon to double for other cities, albeit with the aid of some stock establishing footage. While Glasgow might often be Gotham or New York,...

"You think you're a good man, don't you, Morgan?" Paramount has revealed an official US trailer for the action movie Assassin Club, which will be skipping theaters and debuting on VOD in May. This recently opened in UK cinemas this month, and it already played in a few other countries including Italy and Israel, but they're dropping it at home right away in the US. It doesn't look that great, which is why this all makes sense. This plot sounds like something we've seen many times before: An assassin is given a contract to kill seven people around the world only to discover the targets are also assassins who have been hired to kill him. Starring Henry Golding as Morgan, Daniela Melchior, Noomi Rapace, Sam Neill, Claudio Del Falco, with Jimmy Jean-Louis and Anastasia Doaga. There's not really any impressive glimpses in this trailer, and even the action seems rather dull.

Henry Golding and Noomi Rapace headline this hitman mystery thriller from director Camille Delamarre. Sadly, Assassin Club isn’t going to do either of them any favours and the only mystery about it is how it got made in the first place.
Golding plays Morgan, one of those international assassins who’s quite happy to murder for a living, as long as his targets are certifiable bad guys like drug lords or sex traffickers. He receives his orders from Caldwell (Sam Neill), his handler-slash-mentor, and otherwise enjoys a quiet life with his girlfriend Sophie (Daniela Melchior), a primary school teacher who remains blissfully ignorant of his extra-curricular activities. However, all that changes when Morgan accepts a contract to take out seven international assassins, only to discover...

“Encanto” star John Leguizamo has signed on to executive produce short film “Triggered” from Tara Westwood.
“Triggered,” which stars Westwood, Isiah Whitlock Jr. (“Da 5 Bloods”), Caitlin Mehner (“Dopesick”) and Robert John Burke (“Law & Order Special Victim’s Unit”), deals with themes of gun violence.
“’Triggered’ is exceptional in that it doesn’t preach and never hits you over the head with a message – but I don’t know how anyone can watch it and not agree that we need to do things differently,” said Leguizamo. “Most Americans, even NRA members, already support basic changes such as improved background checks and this is a conversation that we must have. I’m so excited to be a part of this powerful piece directed and starring Tara Westwood.”
The short tells the story of Ohio (played by Whitlock Jr.) and Virginia (Mehner), who have both lost family to gun violence and who believe a senator,...
