The composer for this film is Oscar winner A. R. Rahman who is actor G. V. Prakash Kumar's maternal uncle. A. R. Rahman had previously composed for director Rajiv Menon's two previous films. The fact that his nephew stars in this film is purely coincidental.
G.V. Prakash Kumar took professional mridangam (percussion instrument) lessons from percussionist Umayalpuram Sivaraman to equip himself for the character.
This is the first movie in which G. V. Prakash Kumar stars in but does not compose the music for.
The prime reason to cast Nedumudi Venu as the celebrated artist in the movie is due to the fact that the actor himself is well trained in the instrument of Mridungam and has played for Carnatic songs for movies in the late 1980s and early 90s.
After giving 2 successful movies Minsara Kanavu(1997) & Kandukondein Kandukondain (2000), director Rajiv Menon took a long gap of 19 years to direct this movie
