The final scene, three housemates standing on the road, I'd say some of the worst acting I've seen, it was hard to watch. I stuck through the film because I got what it was trying to portray, young folk trying to find where they fit in and what life means for them. Good on them for getting their work on Amazon Prime (in Australia).

We All Lie My Darling
CinemaSerf1 April 2023
Now regardless of it's authenticity, this has got to be one of the worst acted films I have seen a very long time. Set in Sydney, it tells the story of the lives and loves of a group of friends in what is ostensibly a welcoming, thriving and inclusive community. "Michelle" (Ayeshah Rose) takes a different approach to "coming out". She firmly believes it is a matter of personal choice and not something that should be done to accommodate the expectations of others - a view that seems to emancipate "Kat" (Daniella Serret). Meantime, the rest of her friends seem to be wrestling with the usual fears of ageing, loneliness, lust v love, trust issues, yada yada. It's quite a nice looking movie and Rose does have a certain charisma on screen, but the rest of this is just a bit of an over-scripted, humourless, yawn. Maybe it's because I have long since ceased to be a thirty-something, but the angst and weariness of the personalities here just wanted me to scream out - "try living this lifestyle in a wet and presbyterian Scotland in the 1970s, baby! Get over yourselves". Eighty minutes of my life I will never get back - not for me, sorry.

A slice of life, for people trying to figure it out
baccaruda126 February 2022
A drama that looks at the difficulties of being young and gay, and trying to figure out your place in the world. Good performances and direction, and a story that takes an honest look at romance, love, and loss, which is a universal experience regardless of orientation.

Sweet LGBT Film!
lbarker0829 September 2022
This movie has lots of really cute moments of LGBT relationships and friendships throughout and that's the strongest element of the story. Lots of men kissing each other and women kissing each other. Love to see it! The music is really good, both the score and the needle drops. Really appreciated how appropriate it was in every scene. I love how the city of Sydney plays a role here. The locations and establishing shots did a lot for the visual aesthetic of the movie. I wish the script was stronger and the story had more development, since some of the characters and storylines needed more resolution, but overall it's a sweet film.

Amazing Film
jromanbaker27 September 2021
I cannot believe I am the first to review this amazing film, which deals with a group of people who join together and support and even to fall in love with each other. Set in Sydney it shows how being ' different ' from the norm, and often outcast by those who supposedly love them, can become a family of friends. It deals with tact and delicacy the predicament of finding you are HIV+ and the young man who goes through this needs all the love and understanding that he deserves. I do not want to single out a single actor as the acting is above criticism and brought me to tears by its sheer force of reality. There is no ' plot ' in the conventional sense and set against the bars and streets of Sydney it totally convinces. There is a scene towards the end when a drag artist, who has been beaten up, speaks of how despite everything we must all live life to the full. This may sound almost trite, but given the various ' stories ' in the film, which are all complex and involving it rings with such conviction that you believe you are hearing it for the first time. Above all it shows how countries have different approaches towards being ' different ' and Australia does not, in my opinion, come out too well. I cannot recommend this film enough, beautifully filmed and directed, and as long as oppression exists this film will always be needed. Straight or ' different ' this film deserves to have a wide showing as heterosexuality and both male and female homosexuality weave together in a pattern that makes life itself both brighter and better. A loud bravo for excellence.

This is a super well put together film. I didn't know what to expect going in but I was presently surprised with just how polished it was. A very intimate look at friendship and the complex relationships people have. Totally worth checking out.

Wonderful movie. Intelligent and sensitive
philosou7 December 2021
A wonderfully intelligent yet very sensitive movie, which captures some aspects of love from different perspectives and experiences. It's a very enjoyable and entertaining movie, yet sensitive to the LGBTQI community through its character development. The story line and acting was marvellous, and believable. The movie is set in Sydney, and in many recognisable settings where the characters could easily be your friends or neighbours.

What a great movie !!!

Warning: Spoilers
I was amazed by this movie because it transcends friendship with simplicity, and sensitivity. We get attached to the characters very quickly and we don't want to leave them. I hope to see the characters in few years and see how they have evolved . This film shaked me emotionally and even few days later I still think about it.

Young Adults living their lives in Sydney with all its beautiful complexity
vsamson-158695 December 2021
I was thrilled to be invited to the Sydney premiere of We all lie my Darling. After two lengthy lockdowns, I slipped into makeup and heels for the first time in forever after a long hiatus in uggs and oodie.

The film did not disappoint. The storyline was engaging and the conversations about love in all its complexity was very real and authentic, never trite or awkward. Each of the five actors were given the time to reveal their story and character.

The film was shot in inner Sydney and showcased a number of well loved gay establishments, all shot beautifully. It was a delight to watch and I left the cinema looking forward my next cinematic experience. Bravo Nick, cast and crew!

Beautiful & inspiring movie, thanks My Darling
rennecheng-158259 December 2021
No time to die James Bond vs My Darling!

Are you kidding? A Hollywood A-List mega dollars production vs a low budget local film, YES! I only have watched these 2 new movies this year but I equally enjoyed them. Bond brings excitement but My Darling touches the bottom of my heart! LGBT is not new but nowhere close near my life circle to be honest. I respect people's choice of love but I don't have enough understanding how much they have gone through. 5 individuals 5 different challenges in their life, they struggle and they embrace the changes. I thought nowadays people accept differences but deep down there are still breakthrough we need to combat, sometimes it's people around you but more importantly the acceptance and understanding of yourself.

Thanks to the Director, the cast & crew for making this movie, it's inspiring to me and made me very emotional while watching. I have had enjoyed it so much!

Emotional
MaisOuEtDoncOrNiCar27 February 2022
Watched it on Prime, this film was really well written.

So many moments that grabs you. It's so close to the reality. So raw and honest to what could / can really happen when living with friends/Flatmates.

So many times that I could reflect myself. I understood that the film had no budget or really low? Well, the music and casts are just AWWWW!!! You need to keep your attention from the beginning so you don't loose the plot and get hooks after few minutes.

Hope to see a sequel of it!

Honest portrayal of young persons centering their lives
photo-859-40163111 September 2023
This is a heartfelt portrayal of young persons learning to find their voice, establish family, and learn to deal with their identities and relationships. With LGBTQ persons, there is often a need to find your own family and support networks and this film shows several characters learning to work through their relationships to find their new family. The cast is solid although I wish we spent more time exploring the character of Nick as he's the newbie. Exploring his life could also introduce the audience into this new world of relationships he's entering. The female cast is particularly strong in portraying their relationships. I enjoyed this slice of life of Sydneysiders and found their forays into adulthood quite relatable.

Beautiful and heart wrenching

A movie about friends, lovers, outcasts and hardships. And overcoming it all! I don't know why, but I was reminded of "Rent" which is one of my all-time faves. Really glad I took a chance on this.
