A love letter to love and New York CIty

For anyone who has been bewildered by the end of a relationship, and wondered whether they could have saved it, this is a hopeful and sweet movie about the difficulty of changing yourself and the reward of a second chance at love. The scenes of New York are gorgeous, the characters complex and sometimes confused (in other words, realistic), the friends and family quirky (whose aren't?), and the cast diverse (Finally, a movie that reflects the actual population of New York!).

Great NYC scenes

Wow this movie is just bad. If it wasn't for the beautiful Manhattan scenes it would be a zero and I would have shut this down. Seriously it kept me in this terrible story. The acting or directing is just bad. Can't tell who is at fault. It is a poor immitation of a kdrama / wannabe Woody Allen classics.

City shots great, acting horrible

Was this a student's college project? An elementary school student? The boring dialogue was only eclipsed by the terrible acting. I turned the sound off and fast forwarded past the acting scenes about half way through so I didn't miss the city shots.

Sweet, engaging film

There are a few surprises in this film. If you are looking for a formulaic romantic comedy, you won't find it here. This film defies classification, not fitting neatly into one category. For one thing, most romcoms follow the same basic formula, starting with a "meet-cute" and following the general outline of boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl. At the beginning of Love, Repeat, the main characters, James and Barbara, are divorced. James has never stopped loving Barbara, and even though his friends advise him to move on and even arrange some blind dates for him, he cannot imagine his life without her. Although there are some funny moments, including a very funny montage featuring his best friend's attempts to give James a makeover, there are also some poignant moments of stark emotion. You find yourself genuinely caring about the characters and hoping for a happy resolution. The film features a large cast of refreshingly diverse characters, including extended family, friends and neighbors, some of them rather quirky. Set in New York City in the wintertime, the film is gorgeously shot with breathtaking scenes of Central Park and snowy city streets which will make you long to be there yourself. The score is jazzy and sophisticated and really adds to the impact of the story. This is a perfect film to watch, cuddled up with a cozy blanket and someone you love.

Funny, in a kind of ironic way

I like films that have humor that's a little dry - slightly off center. That's what this is. Good characters and story. And it's a feel-good movie. Beautiful to look at.

A rom-com for the modern era

This sophisticated take on a classic rom-com offers a departure from the standard, with well-written dialogue, razor-sharp direction, and gorgeous photography. Rather than slavish realism, the film gives us emotional realism--the complicated, often confusing vicissitudes of love. Like any good film in its genre, Love, Repeat has plenty of laugh-out-loud moments as well as moments when you will wipe a tear from your eye. The music, too, is fantastic. Watch it when you're in the mood to curl up with a hot chocolate or hot toddy.

Real, yet magical

This movie has a certain sense to it - it's real - the people could be people you know. Yet it also has a certain magic to it. It's partly the beautiful scenes of NYC. But also has a certain subtle heightened feeling to it. Like New York. More please.

Authentic and lovely and enjoyable

How wonderful to see a movie where you care about the people and they are well drawn and at different stages of life. It is romantic and funny and interesting, and the NY settings are superb. Beautifully acted and the music is brilliant. This film is sweet without being cloying, serious without being too heavy, intense or depressing, comic without being slapstick or silly, it is all done with a deft touch and leaves the viewer feeling very satisfied. Recommend it highly.

Good for the whole family

This film was lovely to watch with my whole family - my children, and their children. It was good to see three generations in the story. And it was interesting to see how the love relationships affected everybody in the film. I teared up a little bit a once or twice. And I appreciated the humor and romance. I've already recommended it to friends who like this kind of film.

My girlfriend, her folks and I came across this film on fios during Christmas week- probably one of the best family film we've seen together.

Little things that we've enjoyed in this movie -The son Chris did a wonderful job in helping his parent's James and Barbara create a sparkle once again. -They've done a great capture of the New York City scenery in the winter -Jenny and Chad is HILARIOUS. Great characters added to the film -the love notifications that James received on his phone.. haha

Realistic Indie Romance

So many romantic movies are about kinda crazy situations. THis one is more about real people, and their real feelings. There is the main couple, and then their family and friends. They are all struggling with love. Some of it is funny, and there are a few serious moments too. I like the indie vibe. It doesn't follow a formula. And New York looks beautiful in it.

With breathtaking cinematography, this heartfelt, zany comedy will have you laughing and crying. If you need some laughter therapy, this is the movie for you. Set in NYC, this nerdy, wacky departure from reality had me laughing out loud! With just enough insights and a high level of acting - the movie achieves a depth most rom-coms don't. If you're looking for something beyond the usual, this feel good movie is an excellent departure from reality. And the music is unusually beautiful.

Kinda classic

No car chases here, and I'm ok with that. Gotta admit, I like romantic movies. THis is people talking, like they do in real life. And being in love. IT's great to look at. And the ins and outs of relationships. The story made me want to know what was happening next.

Real movie for real people

One of the best releases of the past few years. Not because of outstanding captivating acting, but for a wondeful story touching 3 generations, no swearing or perversities, and a wonderful, awesome soundtrack!

Diverse New York cast

A standout romcom with more to offer

I generally don't watch a lot of rom coms. They're nice for a distraction but I had read that Love, Repeat has beautiful cinematography of New York City, and that interested me. We got all the distraction and happiness of any rom com but also found a nice change of pace in the depth of the characters. Bill Connington, playing James, immediately won me over with his portrayal of an intelligent, kind man who loves his family and wants them together again. James is a little lost in how to relate to his ex-wife and feels if he had known, she would not be the ex. By watching the other quirky couples he knows, including his parents, the babysitter and his partner, and his best friends, he learns more about himself and Barbara. Other cast members bring about a joyful combination of quirkiness and entertainment along with their love and support for James. James goes through attempts at dating, with the encouragement of his friends, but comes back to the one love he knows is true. I did enjoy the cinematography, which brought an extra depth to a movie with an overall feel-good vibe and a few entertaining plot twists. Definitely recommend this movie, especially if you like a little more depth to your rom coms.

So, like any genuine New Yorker, I go into a film that's touting NYC with a certain amount of skepticism. Especially a rom com. I was about half way in and so far it was sweet and quirky and well done, and the city shots were admittedly pretty gorgeous, and then.......BOOM. They had me. All of a sudden I'm tearing up and I'm missing the people I love and seriously invested in these characters working it all out. Maybe it's wandering NYC in the snow, or good old fashioned story telling. Whatever it is, thanks for the cry and I'll be adding this film to my "guilty pleasures" list.

Bill Connington at his best

This movie contains unusual and beautiful shots of New York City, breathtaking footage of the city the way it really looks. Bill Connington's superb and nuanced acting stayed with me for a long time after the credits rolled. That and the mesmerizing theme song.

New York Valentine-and so watchable!

Live, Repeat is a lovely love poem to a New York winter. The characters are likable and everything is easy on the eyes. Bill Connington plays the male lead with an endearing stiffness. Can it resolve to warmth? And will his unhappy wife recognize the change? Occasionally the gorgeous cinematography upstages the actors, but the beautifully made film always returns to its story and purpose. New York City makes a bid to be the lead, but finally I was charmed by humans who live under its spell.
