More a rom-com vibe than anything, but still fun....

This was a fun and pretty silly show, but one that I enjoyed.

If you hate romantic comedies, than you probably will not like this show, as that is kind of the focus of the 10 episode season. It was fun for me, personally, to follow a 30 year old female protagonist. She was a unique and interesting character to watch develop, and her problems felt authentic. Go Morimori!

I was a bit disappointed in the game universe. Although the MMO, Fruits de Mer, was a big part of the show, it wasn't a really developed game. It seemed somewhat like WoW I guess, but the mechanics were not really explored much. Instead, it was more a backdrop for social dynamics.

All in all, it was a fun anime to watch, and I'd recommend it to someone wanting to watch something less serious and feel-good. 8/10

Recovery of an MMO Junkie
Tweekums23 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Series protagonist Moriko Morioka had a successful career but now, aged thirty, she has quit... she is now a NEET who spends her time playing 'Fruits de Mer'. This is a video game where she plays as male character 'Hayashi'. Here she makes friends and joins their guild. In particular she gets close to a girl named Lilly who she often sits and chats with. She doesn't tell Lilly she is actually a girl; and certainly doesn't suspect that Lilly might not be. Away from the game she starts to get close to Yuta Sakurai, a handsome young businessman... inevitably it turns out she also knows him in the game but it takes a while before she realises this.

There are plenty of anime series that largely take place within a video game; this one is rather different though; these people aren't trapped in the game and even though we hear the game character's talking it is made clear that what they say is just what the players type... this means it makes sense that they don't realise the genders of their in-game companions. Moriko is also an interesting protagonist; older than most anime protagonists and not the greatest player in the game. It was fun that ultimately what happened in the game wasn't what really mattered it was the friendships formed in real life and the realisation that characters have discussed certain matters in the game not knowing that they actually knew the person in real life. The animation is good and character designs are effective; I particularly liked how the characters in real life have a different, more realistic, style to those in the game. Overall I found this series to be enjoyable and more original than I expected.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

Enjoyable romance anime
christian-schenk98716 March 2018
When it came out it was the best romance anime of the season. It had a nice soundtrack, lovable characters and in my eyes also a satisfying conclusion.

Fun to watch for all romance fans out there. Don't let this opportunity slide!

It was ok but hasn't given enough thought on the couple
Irishchatter27 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Even though I did enjoy watching the anime, I also thought it was pretty cringy because like I felt the couple weren't at all comfortable with each other when they met in real life. Yeah I understand it can be awkward and unsettling to meet your "significant other"for real but like once you get to know them better, you do get use to each other. I felt Moriko and Hayashi weren't at all relaxed with each other and as a viewer, it made me stressed even more lol. I did want them to kiss but at the same time, I felt the relationship was way too forced and just headwrecking! I think if they made the characters have a little more confidence within their personalities, then they'd be a right couple for each other. I've only watched 3 episodes and tbh I think it's totally fine to not watch any more episodes then that lol!

I am disappointed that the character development wasn't as good as I thought but at the same time, the anime was sorta enjoy able to watch!

Loved it !

Sweet, funny and characters you can relate to if you have spent half your life in MMOs. I loved the atmosphere of the whole series and found myself wishing it had a ton more seasons... that said, I think the one season do well as a stand alone season. What a gem this was... a real find for me at least.

I highly recommend this one.

As a short 13 episode show, Recovery of an MMO Junkie actually makes me want to see more. This anime could be seen as a standard romance, but in my opinion its the little things and the characters in particular that make this one stand out. The main character is very interesting to me as on the surface she can seem a bit depressed but in actuality she just has her preferences for what she enjoys, which I think most viewers can connect to. The rest of the cast serves their purpose, but outside the main guy and his best friend the rest are a bit forgettable. I also really like the opening and ending songs, and they work well setting the tone for what your watching. Out of all the anime I've seen so far, this one lands in the top half and I would recommend you give it a try.

MMO = LOL <3 <3 <3
Derekrusselpurvis29 August 2018
I came for the MMO, but stayed for the incredible story that raided me unexpectedly. This is a beautiful story about two players who learn to play an MMO together... but things take an unexpected twist early on in the show. I can't say much more about this Anime without spoiling it, so I guess you're just going to have to take my word for it... Just be sure to stick around for episode 4. I found myself laughing, clapping, and almost falling over in embarrassment for the characters multiple times... I only planned on watching a few episodes, but I was unable to stop once I started, finishing the entire Anime in one sitting... I loved it!

Some of the cons you might find depending on your taist: Most of the anime takes place outside of the MMO, so if the MMO aspect is all you are here for you may be disappointed. The coincidences are very strong in this show, but I still had a wonderful time watching it.

I guess its ok.

I'm not really a fan of romance, but this is good. I watched episode one, but I doubt I'll be watching any more. Its really awkward and kinda boring though well-written. The animation is ok, nothing really special. There isn't any music (at least in episode one) which leaves a lot of dead air where nothing happens. Though I was bored, I can see how someone who likes romance would like this.
