Hollywood’s historic season of strikes decimated filming in Los Angeles, with the region recording close to the lowest production levels on record.
The decline marks the fourth consecutive quarterly shooting drop, capping off a year in which filming was blocked for over four months. Filming for TV shows, long a mainstay in Los Angeles, saw the steepest dip.
The report from FilmLA reflects the last quarter that accounts for the strikes. The agency said that the three-month period from October to December saw 5,520 shoot days, which represents a roughly 36 percent decline from the same quarter last year. The work stoppages from the WGA and SAG-AFTRA concluded on Sept. 27 and Nov. 9 respectively.
FilmLA noted that the resolution of the strikes “came too late for production to pick up by year’s end,” though runaway production is also a factor. On-location filming in Los Angeles has been continuously declining since 2021 as...

Exclusive: Courteney Cox is looking for a new home for her pregnancy docuseries 9 Months.
The Friends star and producer Ample Entertainment is shopping the unscripted series to other buyers after Facebook Watch didn’t pick up a fourth season.
It comes less than a week after the series scooped a Daytime Emmy nomination for the series in the Outstanding Short Form Daytime category.
The series, which launched in January 2019, looks at a broad range of Americans as they self-document their 9-month journey of pregnancy. Cox narrates and provides commentary on the series, which has featured stories such as a cancer-stricken mother to pregnant teenagers considering adoption.
It’s been a busy period for Cox; her Starz horror comedy series Shining Vale, which wrapped its first season last month, has been picked up for a second season and she recently starred in the latest Scream film.
Ample Entertainment, similarly, has been on a tear.

Spring is finally here. The birds are chirping, the sun is shining and there is a colossal amount of new television to keep you indoors and away from both the chirping birds and the shining sun. (Isn’t that always the way?)
This week we’ve got a new Michael Mann show on HBO Max, a new D.B. Weiss movie on Netflix, a new spy movie starring Chris Pine on Amazon Prime Video and documentaries on Benjamin Franklin, a missing pilot and the life of a cow. Sorry spring, you’re going to have to hold a minute.
On with the television!
“Tokyo Vice”
Thursday, April 7, HBO Max

Michael Mann, the visionary filmmaker behind “Heat” and “The Insider,” returns to television for “Tokyo Vice.” Based on the 2009 book of the same name by Jake Adelstein, who in 1993 was hired by one of Japan’s largest newspapers to be its first non-Japanese reporter.

There’s plenty of content to watch across every major streaming platform already, something everyone has certainly appreciated during the ongoing pandemic. But who would dare complain about even more movies and shows to check out? Lucky you – Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and Disney Plus are all getting new stuff to watch this weekend, and some of it is absolutely worth your time.
Over on Netflix, you’ll definitely want to check out District 9, a film that delicately handles being both a compelling sci-fi action flick and a political statement that tackles xenophobia and racism. If you’re needing something a bit more light-hearted though, there’s always the David Spade comedy, The Wrong Missy, which is sitting at a pretty rough 31% on Rotten Tomatoes but is nevertheless doing exceptionally well with audiences.
If you’re a Hulu subscriber and foodie, you’ll want to check out seasons 37-39 of the hit show,...
