The defection of the East Hun Chiu dictator Chairman Kim's son Joon Kim was inspired by the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin's daughter Svetlana Alliluyeva defecting to the United States on March 6, 1967. In 1978, she became a US citizen but returned to the Soviet Union in 1984 and had her Soviet citizenship reinstated. She later left again, eventually settling in the United Kingdom and becoming a British citizen in 1992. She once again moved to the US in 2009, where she remained until her death on November 22, 2011 at the age of 85.
