For his film debut in “Blitz,” Elliott Heffernan had a tall order.
He had to perform in perilous scenes that found his character running through WWII battlefields as bombs dropped, leaping from a moving train and getting caught in a flash flood. But when the now 11-year-old actor faced his most challenging moment – having to cry on cue – he was able to use his greatest fears to pull it off. “I pretended my mom was taking away my PlayStation,” Heffernan reveals.
It worked; the young actor is earning raves for his turn in the Steve McQueen epic, playing George, the mixed-race son of Saorise Ronan’s single mother Rita. As WWII rages on and London endures an aerial bombardment, Rita makes the agonizing decision to send George away to safety in the country, despite his pleas. George ends up fleeing and, in his effort to return to his family, encounters a series of new threats.

There are two ways of looking at Clint Eastwood's 1980s. One is to view them as an enshrinement. Eastwood turned 50 at the outset of the decade, and the movies were either mainstream-skewing victory laps or thoughtful departures; the star wasn't above coasting, but he made sure to carve out some time for personal projects about subjects that fascinated him (e.g. the country music drama "Honkytonk Man" and the Charlie Parker biopic "Bird"). Basically, Eastwood could do whatever he wanted at his home studio at Warner Bros., and sometimes he wanted to make "Pink Cadillac."
You can also view Eastwood's '80s as a waste of his time and talent. Of the 11 films he made over that 10-year span, only one was great ("Tightrope"), a few were above-average, and the rest were either misfires or outright garbage. Some argue that he needed the behind-the-camera reps to make his '90s and '00s triumphs,...

Are you still reeling from The Rookie's long hiatus? I am, but each day brings us closer to season 7, which will premiere during ABC's 2024-25 midseason lineup. The season 6 finale left us with some staggering questions, which will be answered to the fans' satisfaction in season 7's opening episodes.
In case you need a recap, in the finale, Officer John Nolan and his team, along with some of the FBI agents, embarked on a dangerous mission to capture the notorious red-headed Monica, but to no avail. Elsewhere, two hardened criminals broke out of prison, with one being Bailey's ex-husband. It's with the hope that her ex won't impact Bailey's life and her plans of becoming a mother with Nolan, but as the drama accelerates, you know it will be problematic.
Due to Jenna Dewan's pregnancy, she'll be missing in the first few episodes as filming began during her third trimester.

Exclusive: Johnny Cannizzaro (Jersey Boys) has joined the ensemble cast of 20th Century’s Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere. The New Jersey native will portray Springsteen’s longtime confidant and E-Street band guitarist Stevie Van Zandt, sources close to production tell Deadline.
Cannizzaro will star opposite The Bear‘s Jeremy Allen White, who will bring “The Boss” to life in the feature film from director Scott Cooper. Odessa Young, Paul Walter Hauser and Harrison Sloan Gilbertson also star. Production is set to kick off in early fall.
Deliver Me From Nowhere, based on the Warren Zanes’ book of the same name, is set during a time when Springsteen, after grappling with personal demons and trying to wrap his arms around becoming a global superstar, wrote and recorded Nebraska, the 1982 album that rivals Joni Mitchell’s Blue as one of the most emotionally raw, dark and honest albums in recent music history.

The state of film and TV production in Los Angeles is getting dire.
New numbers released by FilmLA show that production shoot days this past summer were the second-worst summer on record. They were even worse than last year, when the writers and actors strikes largely shut down all scripted production.
Although the prior quarter faced uncertainty over whether IATSE or Teamsters would strike, things got worse in Q3. FilmLA reported that in Q3 2024, production days slipped by 5 percent quarter over quarter to 5,048 shoot days. It was also the weakest so far in 2024 and 36.4 percent below the five-year average.
The primary culprit is unscripted/reality TV production leaving LA County. Total shoot days for that sub-category were down 56.3 percent (up slightly from an equally bad quarter in Q2 of this year), even as TV dramas and comedy, commercials, pilots, and feature film production all bounced back nicely.

Los Angeles’ film permitting office is ringing the alarm about low production levels after shooting in the region saw another decline.
The three-month period from July to September logged the weakest quarter so far this year, slipping 5 percent to roughly 5,000 shoot days, according to the latest report from FilmLA. The figure falls short of shooting in the area during the same time last year, when production was halted amid Hollywood’s dual writers and actors strikes.
Industry output and employment continues to fall short of expectations. Every category of scripted production trails the five-year averages on both a per-quarter and year-to-date basis.
“Only a few months ago, the industry hoped we’d see an overall on-paper gain in the third quarter, due to the strike effect,” says FilmLA president Paul Audley. “Instead, we saw a pullback and loss of forward momentum.”
Audley stresses that production in the fall season will “make or break the year.

FilmLA, the quasi-public agency that handles film permits in Los Angeles, has reported a weak third quarter for 2024.
Production in the Greater Los Angeles area dropped 5 percent to 5,048 shoot days.
Scripted television producers logged 758 shoot days last quarter across the economically important TV Drama, TV Comedy and TV Pilot categories.
There was an increase in feature film production, some of which continued during the strikes, which rose by 26.6 percent last quarter, to 476 shoot days. These developments brought some relief to LA-based cast and crew, local studio operators and industry vendors.
However, industry output and employment continues to fall short of expectations set during the post-covid, streaming bubble era.

It was another cruel summer for on-location film and TV production in Greater Los Angeles.
FilmLA said Wednesday that shoot days fell 5% during the July-to-September period to 5,048, marking the weakest quarter of 2024 and surprisingly falling below the strike-riddled Q3 last year. The recent surge in scripted TV production stalled during the summer and reality retreated again ahead of the year’s final production push.
The L.A. County’s film-permitting office said it was the region’s second-slowest summer period as industry output and employment continued to fall below expectations set during the post-Covid, streaming-bubble era. The current levels for every category of scripted production FilmLA tracks trail their adjusted five-year averages on both a per-quarter and year-to-date basis.
Scripted television producers logged 758 shoot days during Q3 across the vital TV Drama, TV Comedy and TV Pilot categories. Unscripted production in L.A. continues to decline as TV Reality production fell by 56.3% to 946 shoot days.

NCIS: Origins premiered this week, and Leroy Jethro Gibbs was back in a very different form. Instead of Mark Harmon playing the iconic role, Austin Stowell plays the character as he first joins NCIS as a probe himself, and starts his career. However, Stowell isn’t the first actor to play a young Gibbs, as Sean Harmon played the character in flashbacks on the main series.
Now, Mark Harmon is explaining why Sean didn’t return to the role in NCIS: Origins.

In the original NCIS series, Mark Harmon’s son, Sean played the character of Gibbs in flashbacks to when he was a young NCIS officer. However, with the new series solely focused on Gibbs’ start at NCIS, the show chose to go with Bridge of Spies actor, Austin Stowell.

2025 will officially mark Clint Eastwood's 70th year in the film industry. That's just five years short of the average life expectancy for American men, so you could absolutely call that a magnificent run even if all he ever did was play baddies and barkeeps since the Eisenhower administration. Of course, Eastwood has done a tad more than that. In collaboration with filmmakers Sergio Leone and Don Siegel, Eastwood played a major role in reconfiguring, respectively, the Western and crime genres. He's also won the Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director twice (for "Unforgiven" and "Million Dollar Baby"), and, at the age of 94, will release his latest directorial effort, "Juror #2," this November.
Eastwood's been so successful for so long that it's difficult to accept that he ever truly struggled. But 94 years is a long damn time, and film stardom didn't arrive for this big-screen icon until he was in his 30s.

We have another wrinkle in this situation, on Found, whose name is Christian Evans.
Much of Found Season 2 Episode 2 saw Gabi and M&a struggling to keep the agency and their mission afloat while stretching themselves thin trying to find Lacey.
If this season isn’t doing anything else, it’s capturing how difficult it is when a family full of traumatized people fractures.

Kicking things off with the case, Shaker is an utter delight and is fast becoming one of my favorite characters in the series.
Anisa Nyell Johnson pulls off this wonderful blend of sympathetic and comedic in this role in a way that provides some levity to the series, which can be pretty dark.

And as intimidating as that dog was, it’s got nothing on whatever is lurking beyond that deadly blue line drawn by the gas mask-wearing stranger in Teacup Season 1 Episode 2.
When Teacup’s showrunner, Ian McCulloch, told us in a recent interview that he wanted every scene to end with a cliffhanger, he wasn’t kidding around.
The first two episodes waste no time, dropping us right into the thick of the drama, mystery, and horror unfolding on the Chenworth farm. And honestly? I’m all in.
Strange Happenings
The first thing we need to discuss is the significance of the teacup and how it ties into the series.

It’s Singles Week on Doctor Odyssey Season 1 Episode 2! And you know what that means?
Lots of people were looking to get it on, and Lots of people were passing out.
Seriously, people were dropping left and right. Between this week and Doctor Odyssey Season 1 Episode 1, why is this cruise so popular?
(Disney/Tina Thorpe)
After a rocky start, Max, Avery, and Tristan found their groove with one another relatively quickly, and they didn’t really have a choice considering how fast and furious the emergencies happen on that ship.
One of the big questions coming out of the premiere was people wondering how many emergencies are seen on cruise ships. And are there really whole surgeries taking place while people are above deck doing Zumba in the pool and gorging on overpriced and under-seasoned prime rib?
Reviews have been mixed about how much that medical bay on a cruise...

Ryan Murphy is a creative genius and one of the most successful creators presently in the industry.
His accomplishments are nothing to sniff at, and I have enjoyed many projects for as long as I can remember.

The 9-1-1 franchise is near and dear to me and is pure entertainment and fun.

It’s no secret that The Rookie has some pretty badass characters, but who is the most badass out of the bunch?
To many, it may be up for debate.
But we have our own thought process on how we’d rank these The Rookie fan favorites when it comes to badassery.
(Disney/Raymond Liu (ABC))
Whether it’s mental fortitude, fearlessness, a knack for taking bad guys down or out, or attitude, there can only be one right answer, as far as we’re concerned, regarding the most badass of the bunch.
But that doesn’t make getting to that top answer any easier.
Let’s get into it, and make sure you tell us below if you agree!
13. Quigley Smitty (Disney/Raymond Liu (ABC))
Smitty is notoriously an underachiever on the series, and he’s known for his comic relief.

Updated: Sept. 16, 2024 - If you're looking for something to scratch your detective itch with The Rookie and Will Trent being held by the network until next year, High Potential is the program that's slated to catch your attention.
The procedural stars Kaitlin Olson as Morgan, a single mom with a genius Iq who winds up helping law enforcement solve cases. She's unconventional in her approach which makes her partnership with seasoned detective, and by-the-book crime solver, Det. Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) so unstoppable. However, it's an unusual one as well. Something tells us, fans of Elsbeth will find this series right up their alley. Here's more on the show!
What you need to know about High Potential
High Potential premieres Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 10 p.m. Et after the debut of Dancing with the Stars season 33. Next day streaming will be available on Hulu starting Sept. 18.

On the first anniversary of his death, and just two days short of what would have been his 45th birthday, fans of the beloved actor took to social media on Sunday to share thoughts and memories of Miller, including photos, videos and other forms of media.
“He was the best actor! He could take on a role and make it so good! The worst-kept secret was that 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 would be its last.
In hindsight, many of us Lone Star Fanatics felt it in our gut that the fifth season would be the writing on the wall long before the official (and recent) news broke of the cancellation.
A number of contributing factors easily led us to the assumption that if we even got a fifth season, it would likely be the last call for the 126.
(Kevin Estrada/Fox) 9-1-1’s Move to ABC was the Canary in a Mine
When 9-1-1 moved over to ABC, it was a bittersweet situation.
For fans of the mother series, it was exciting to see the show move to an arguably bigger network that, with its massive success and reach, could do much more for the series.
The primary reason behind the shift was 9-1-1’s massive budget,...

It’s fitting that one of the most anticipated fall TV shows has a title like High Potential. A fish-out-of-water tale with shades of The Rookie and Castle that stars the deft Kaitlin Olson, ABC’s newest dramedy procedural, written by Alias and Good Place vet Drew Goddard, is poised to be a breakout series. And Olson is ready. “It’s so different than anything I’ve done before,” she tells TV Guide Magazine, even though her protagonist Morgan Gillory — a single mom of three with a genius Iq — bears some resemblance to Sunny’s wise-cracking barfly “Sweet Dee” Reynolds. “I still love a scrappy character. Morgan’s incredibly intelligent, but it tortures her. She also is a wonderful mom who cares so much about her kids. It’s a fun departure from the degenerate characters I’ve played.” ABC/Disney Based on the French hit Haut Potentiel Intellectuel, this...
