A horrifying but weirdly beautiful nightmare of a movie

I tend to try and come up with my own brief plot synopsis whenever I whip up a review that's more than a few lines long, but I have no idea how to summarise The Flying Luna Clipper. You'll have to excuse my laziness, because I'm going to copy and paste the synopsis given on Letterboxd and IMDb:

"A trip on a chartered plane with a number of other thrill-seekers (most of whom are anthropomorphic fruits and vegetables) and hop from island to island, each of which offer their own unique visual delights."

I'm realising now that that's not even a complete/proper sentence, but no complete/proper sentences could adequately describe this movie's plot either. Was there even a plot? It was just strange things happening, with some visuals that are hard to even decipher, all loosely tied together apparently by a plane that seems to allow various figures (they're not really characters) to travel to weird, different locales/dimensions/multiverses.

That all being said, I think I kind of liked it? Maybe? It's unlike anything else, and it gives you this funny feeling, thanks to its retro video game-sort of aesthetics, and also because of all the crazy music. I can't call it nostalgic for me personally, because it came out a little before my time, but it does give this really strange feeling that's hard to describe.

There's also a creepy part with a mosquito that I swear made my skin start itching. That was kind of frightening. Right afterward, music that sounded a bit like the Akira theme started playing, and this came out a year before Akira! Also, then my neck started itching. Then the sun started talking to the vegetable people on the plane. Terrifying.

This is impossible to recommend to people who don't like weird animated movies (even fans of strange animation might feel baffled). It feels like watching the most bizarre retro video game of all time while under the influence of something you didn't mean to take, and I was confused, slightly unnerved, but also charmed - so I guess it's probably good (?)
