could be better

Considering myself a Conor fan I enjoyed the documentary but honestly as a MMA fighter I was lookin for some more insiders of his training methods. Not disappointed but surely I expected more details. However if you are a UFC fan you should take the time and watch it!

Brilliantly Entertaining
thomasjay-220111 January 2019
A slow starter of a film I was pleasantly surprised as I've found the sports documentary sub genre (if you will) to be very hitor miss to say the least, however this was special. Precise and straight to its point the craftsmanship on show is on an entirely different level and the story is a special one too. Full of interesting and layered "characters" that are merely carrying out daily business the outcome was amazing and compelling. One that feels timeless I highly recommend you view it at least once, and fingers crossed there's a follow up in years to come to round off an outstanding career

Visceral storytelling
aidanharte10 August 2018
Gavin Fitzgerald's documentary moves almost as fast as its subject. It's a tightly edited masterclass in visceral storytelling; eschewing voice over and heavy handed editorializing, Notorious shows how the Dublin lad become a superstar through work, willpower and wit. McGregor's sins - that the sport he dominates is violent, that he talks loud - remain unforgivable to some, but Notorious wastes no time with begrudgers. It's too busy telling a story with as much drama as a cage fight. Check it out, fight fans.

Pretty good.

It's hard to fault this movie. Whatever you might think of him, his arrogance, it seems to make sense when you see how hard he has worked to be where he is. Very inspiring, highlighting some of his achievements and the way the movie captures clips of him before his success, it is as if he knew all along that he would one day be a household name. Watch it when you feel demotivated.

An Early Christmas Present For Fans Of The Mystic Mac

Although completely one-sided, Conor McGregor: Notorious is still a highly immersive & thoroughly fascinating documentary that inspires, motivates & above all celebrates the rags-to-riches journey of the most charismatic MMA fighter to ever step into the octagon & delves deeper into the aura of the Irishman whose larger-than-life persona is unlike anything the world of mixed martial arts has ever seen.

It went by quickly
Polotovar8 July 2022
Conor McGregor will forever be a UFC legend to me. Not only a great fighter, but for me a mostly unforgettable showman who took it in his own way and cheekily made fun of everyone and also won a lot of fans, including me, with his character. His press conferences were always a joy to watch because he always entertained, but back to the documentary. I liked him very much. There was a lot packed into an hour and a half and I was entertained the whole time and didn't really want it to end. It went by quickly for me. The pace seemed fast to me. Nicely shot. I liked how the preparation was always shown and then the fight afterwards had momentum. The music also worked so well at certain points that I had goosebumps. I'm really satisfied. For McGregor fans, this will probably be a sure thing. I don't know what I can say. Perhaps just a shame it wasn't longer, but then it might have been boring. I'm just saying it went by really fast when I watched it. I enjoyed it. For me, a good documentary that I recommend to McGregor fans or MMA lovers.

Great Documentary
dallasryan12 June 2018
I loved this documentary. I didn't know much about Conor McGregor, but after watching this, I'm a fan. A great insight in to his life, his work ethic, and his funny, larger than life personality. He would be an interesting person to know.

A documentary which is edited to perfection as it plays out like a great Rocky story. It also helped that I didn't know anything about his fights therefore I was on the edge of my seat to see what would happen next (If you know how his fight history goes then it will take away some of the luster this documentary offers).

A great presentation all around and a documentary that's worth the watch.

Entertaining for fans of the sport
thezenunderground11 September 2019
If you enjoy MMA and the UFC enough that you watch it regularly, you'll love it...A bit jumpy, and lacking on the early years, which I get, as I doubt there was much footage to be had then. Also, its a great look at the human behind the personality.

If you are looking for a documentary to reel you in with no context, this isn't the one. There are 30 for 30's that can do that, but this isn't it.

Anyone interested in the man, Connor McGregor will find this easy to watch, entertaining, and illuminating.

Good for Mcgregor fans
gbradley198712 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This film breezes past the early years and fights before the ufc in the first 15 minutes, which was disappointing because thats what i was most interested in seeing. But it was still a very interesting watch to see the dedication and insane effort he puts into his training and lifestyle to be where he is. Good film

Well-Made Documentary
hiero6612 April 2020
Overall, the documentary is very well made. I was hoping there was something inspirational or redeeming to be found in Conor's personality, but he comes across as a teenage boy. It looks as if he will spend all his money on cars, mansions, and suits. In 30 years we'll read some story about him living in Skid Row.

Like others have said, I wish there was more footage or discussion regarding his training. However, for someone who knows nothing about him, this is a good introduction and gives you a good overall view of how he went from nothing to being famous. I enjoyed it overall and would recommend watching if you are interested.

Under the Veil?

181218: Amazing athelite though I could do without some of his antics. Why do the greatest always seem to be a bit sideways? Looking back upon McGregor's successes was a wonderful experience, even if a bias exists in this production. He's done so much for raising the profile of MMA and the UFC. I noticed in his last fight with Nate Diaz, at the start of some of the rounds, McGregor can be seen offering to touch gloves (Nate does not even flinch from the task at hand). Always so much more to people than we see, know or are told. Not sure how a non-MMA fan would embrace this film, but for those with a passion, this production is a must see.

McGregor makes a docu about himself
coldbutsocold21 December 2018
I mean come on... honestly? 7 rating on a MMA fighter making a documentary about himself? How stuck in ego can a person be? We are supposed to worship him for worshiping himself? A really boring, waste of time. Seems to be trying to save face after his latest fiasco with the Kabib fight --> showing the REAL conor... losing his cool and being unprofessional. GSP is 10x the fighter!!

Great insight in to the sheer ambition and determination of this man. Doing something 99 per cent of us could not even contemplate or have the ability to do. Respect.

Great account of the life of the Notorious one. Very in detail, shows many behind the scenes tidbits, that make Conor's fights feel more special.

Great insight into the world of UFC
danielmanson11 January 2019
I was actually very surprised to see the amount of footage in camera time McGregor actually had in this documentary. I initially assumed that it would be just clips of him fighting and nothing much else. But, there is a cameraman that follows McGregor throughout his early career (before the Mendes fight) and shows you what his training is like, sparring with others and his home life. What I personally found most interesting is what Conor and his trainers were like right before and after the fights. This doc gave me a real insight to how not just Conor but all UFC fighters are treated and how they behave before fights and press conferences etc.

Just some things I would have liked (didn't really take anything away from this documentary): More time with John Kavanagh and a bit more in depth into Conor's training methods etc and for the documentary to have gone up to the Eddie Alvarez fight, where he became double champ (obviously they had stopped filming after Diaz 2, but it just would have been cool to see Conor behind the scenes with two belts).

But, if you love Conor or just simply love the UFC I highly recommend as it gives fantastic insights into the lives of fighters.

One dimensional and cut short
dave-839-4514814 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not a big MMA fan, or McGregor fan but seen him in a few fights and seen him in the news for other things (so not really positive or negative towards him). Maybe if you are huge fan then you will see the movie differently.

I was expecting to see a story of up and downs, and maybe some childhood backstory, see the person behind the scenes, but you get none of that...instead all you really get is:

  • Mostly following Conor around while he walks between rooms or gets in and out of his various cars; commenting on how nice the rooms and/or cars are.

  • Watch Conor as he talks about how tough he is and how he wants a lot of money.

  • Watch a build up to a couple of fights (ie press conferences and a bit of training montage).

  • Watch a couple of fights (*this was really the only positive of the movie*)

No other characters are really introduces other than a handwavy "That's my mum", and "That's my girlfriend".

Then at the end of the movie it suddenly ends with a black text screen of "Oh and he won a few more belts...the end"

It's not totally unwatchable, but you don't really learn anything about Conor McGregor other than he's a good fighter and trains a lot, likes to win and wants to be rich...but I'm assuming that pretty much describes most MMA fighters.

Whether you're a fan or not, it's great insight into a fighters mindset
colonel-1307027 May 2023
Whether you're a fan of McGregor or not, it's great insight to a fighters mindset. It is a great story of coming from nothing and being a double world champion. Very inspiring and its own right. Yes, not exclusive to McGregor but it is his story after all. He was very intuitive to capitalize on his notoriety and his brand. That has put him in the stratosphere of fighters. That is the real story here. Even in spite of his losses, he has set himself up for the rest of his life financially. Most fighters only dream of that type of success, and most never reach it. Intuitively, he knew that entertainment is equally as important as being a great fighter. He was able to capture peoples attention, good, or bad, and capitalize on it. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, nonetheless, it did happen, and he gained a greater platform because of it. It also seems like right, when you thought public opinion was going to turn against him, he would end up doing something proper and redeem himself. He is now matured and comes across as a man, but he certainly comes across as someone with that competitiveness to him. Gotta give him credit where it's due. He came in and did exactly what he said he was going to do and became double champion in the face of an entire international organization. Yes, I agree with other posters, hear that these documentaries can be self-serving, but I think he has shown enough of himself, especially with the old clips of who he was then and the road he has traveled to the present day. I will say his best days are behind him. Reminds me of one of the movies in the rocky series. The champ become wealthy, soft, and it's very hard to get that fire that drive back when you have it all. Overall, this has been well done.

Decided to give this a watch not expecting much but surprisingly it was very good. Great insite to Conor as a charachter, his friends family and most of all his determination to win. Olgreat watch, well documented and good natured. Shame it didn't cover more of the Mayweather match. Overall a good watch and highly recommended for any fan.

It's an advertisement
jannejriikonen15 January 2023
This film is not a documentary but an advertisement, promotional video. Man makes a film about himself? Come on guys. The film has no substance whatsoever. All shown can basically be found in youtube. He has a great story but this film is just he flexing 90 minutes straight. Anyone else should have done the film and the result would have been better. What I'm more looking forward to is the sequel showing him being the jerk he became inside and outside the ring - showing no respect, getting high, getting his ass handed to in the ring, punching old pals in bars for rejecting his whisky, etc. Feel free to use my idea.

Fascinating character study but not for everyone
Reimeir113 January 2022
For me this documentary gets a 10 because it is a raw, unedited insight into one of the most controversial and so interesting sports personalities of modern times.

We see him interact with coaches, sparring partners, spouse, friends, competitors. He seems like a normal dude, humble, funny, charismatic towards the camera. But then there are the moments where his egotistic persona shines through, he is shamelessly boastful about his skills, excessively focused on wealth and his temper can snap in a moment.

The final minute of the documentary, a title screen showing text to say McGregor has lost to Mayweather, no clips have been included. It foreshadows the coming downfall of his career. That his ego has consumed him for the worse. He is flawed. Loveable. Hateable. One of the greats.

Notorious
eas-6068421 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
If you're looking for a real life "started from the bottom" story or you're an avid fan of mixed martial arts, this documentary is definitely one that you should check out. Conor McGregor: Notorious, follows Conor from his times of collecting welfare checks to headlining the main card in the largest pay per view gate for a UFC event in history. It starts in his mother's spare bedroom where he lives in Dublin, Ireland as he is first taking his leap to the UFC. The documentary follows him from fight to fight in the UFC on his rise to stardom. The documentary continues to follow Conor and his group around in training, everyday life, and in fights until it ends at his rematch with Nate Diaz in UFC 202. The documentary does a really good job of displaying Conor's relationships with the people around him. One main relationship that they focused on, is his relationship with his girlfriend, Dee Devlin. Almost everywhere Conor would go Dee was right with him. From cooking all his meals to being there at his workouts, she constantly supports him no matter what. While it isn't directly said, the documentary clearly shows that she is a major reason why he was able to succeed. Along with Dee, Conor's trainers also play a huge part on his road to glory. Conor's head coach, John Kavanaugh, is more than a coach to him, he is also perhaps his best friend too. They obviously are with him in the gym training all day and night, but they also eat and hang out together. Even in weeks prior to the actual fight the whole group stays in the same mansion in Las Vegas. His relationship with his training partners also seem very strange to many people however it shows how close and connected they are. In training they try to beat the life out of each other, but always high five, embrace, and compliment after they're done. The relationships that Conor has are very strong and the documentary does a great job of displaying it. The cinematography throughout the documentary shows all viewers of how Conor got to where he is today and who he truly is as a person. Many people see him as an extremely cocky fighter with no respect for anyone. However, on his journey from the bottom to top, the behind the scenes moments that nobody saw, show how wrong that truly is. Conor has openly stated how important loyalty is to him and it shows. He has stayed with the people that believed in him from the start and helped him every step of the way. From his girlfriend to his training staff and coaches they all pushed him and he evidently is gracious for all of them. There are many scenes of all of them relaxing and doing other things away from just fighting. These scenes really help take the focus off of Conor the fighter and shows Conor as a normal everyday person. It also helps viewers see Conor as less of a mystic God like figure and more of a person who is very passionate about his dreams and life goals. Credited to the cinematography, there were many notable scenes that hade the documentary very interesting and powerful. One of the very first scenes is perhaps the most powerful. When Conor is still at his mother's home, Conor gets mail from the Irish debt collection agency. In this shot, Conor jokes that they can go f*** off because soon he'll be in the UFC making millions. This shot really emphasizes how he truly worked hard and believed in his dream to make it come true. Another notable scene that I liked had to be his fight with the then UFC Featherweight champ. What I really liked about this scene is that it really took away from what the mainstream media showed. Instead of showing all the trash talk between the two fighters, it showed the private more calm and focused Conor that showed he isn't just cocky. While those are just two scenes of the whole documentary, there are many more scenes that illustrate how great and incredible of a rise to glory Conor had. Overall, Conor McGregor: Notorious is an excellent documentary to watch. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is even remotely interested in mixed martial arts. Not only did it give a great insight to the life of Conor, It also gave an insight to the business and life of all mixed martial artists.

I'm not a huge McGregor fan, but you have to give this man this props. The documentary is well made. If you like fighting sports (especially MMA), success stories (making something out of nothing), fearless dream chasers (believing in your dreams against all odds), then you'll definitely enjoy this one.

No substance at all
Uchiha_Sasuke22 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There are YouTube videos and UFC clips that have better content and substance than this.

There are is some interesting footage but it was obvious they didnt have enough material.

His humble beginnings aside we had no deep coverage of the Aldo fight, we had 15 seconds reel of the Maywheather giga fight in the end....all the crazy stuff that probably had alot of interesting behind the scenes stories was not covered.

Granted this was filmed in 2017 but still it fell short and im a big fan of his.
