Once Again makes the Wrong Story a Subplot,
lesleyharris3022 October 2018
Grampy Can Ya Hear Me is a good Simpsons episode with a reasonably well written plot and some great moments. The side story was certainly my favourite, as we follow Principal Skinner go through a personal trauma as he discovers his mother has been keeping a lie from him for years, what ensues from there is quite entertaining.

The episode suffers with a similar issue that several episodes have had this season, in which it pushes a story with much more potential in to a corner, making it a subplot, and giving a lesser, more two dimensional plot, in this case being Grampa getting a hearing aid, and that's about it, in to the main plot, but barely having enough to warrant it being that.

The Skinner plot had loads of potential, it could have been a great Bart and Skinner episode, but instead it minimizes this plot to make room for a story that was more so a series of sketches.

Fine, but forgettable. Grampy Can Ya Hear Me is a good Simpsons, but it suffers due to how much better it could have been if it was handled with a bit more care.

Grampa gets a hearing aid and starts to hear what people have been saying about him. Meanwhile, Principal Skinner receives unsettling news.

Decent episode

Although the Abe main plot is very average and doesn't develop into anything interesting, the Skinner is actually pretty interesting. Also that random Willie Trainspotting scene, although out of place, is the hardest I've laughed at simpsons in a while.

Writers forget past Simpsons' history!

Warning: Spoilers
The writer(s) for this episode seem to have forgotten that Principle Skinner's real name (in the series) is 'Armin Tamzarian'. Oh well, this is a cartoon ... generally a well written one at that. If one can set aside the premise set up in the 'Principal and the Pauper', this was an enjoyable episode with Lisa experiencing a 'Joe Biden' academic honesty moment and grandpa Simpson gaining a new awareness of what those around him really think.

Grampa, Seymour, Lisa, Hans Moleman and more!

This episode has a lot of aspects to analyze. A complete presentation sequence after several years, with a good chalkboard gag. An emotional A-plot with an unoriginal conflict but with a great resolution, in addition to providing many moments of fun. A B-plot that does not respect the story; But, does anyone want the farce of Armin Tanzarian to be respected? At least me, no. It is original and also has several moments of laughter, perhaps being the best of them, the relationship between Skinner and Barney. A really fun C-plot but with two final filler scenes. A great epilogue with Skinner and Agnes watching Game of Thrones. And a really fantastic spin-off, based on brief adventures of Hans Moleman.

Overall, Grampy Can Ya Hear Me is a pleasantly overloaded episode, full of pleasant and fun moments

Very decent episode for this season and 9 stars because of the Hans Moleman mid-credit scene!
