Entertaining film with a predictable end!!
tapishvijantv10 November 2018
This movie's plot is very interesting and the story has a couple of surprise elements in it. But i think the plot still suffers from inconsistency and lazy writing. I think the film is trying to address too many things which it cannot. It's like i watched two good films at once and now having difficulty trying to separate their storyline from one another. The film could have been a lot better if it had stick with one storyline. The climax of the film was cliched and was predictable. Despite all the negative aspects in this film, it wasn't short of entertainment. I liked the film and would easily recommend it to others. The acting, storyline, direction, set design, background score all were top notch. It's one of those films that you would easily point out mistakes from but still won't be shy to love it.

A Great Romantic Film With A Stupid Ending !!!
singhankitrajput5 November 2018
Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana, directed by Ratnaa Singh and starring Rajkumar Rao and Kriti Kharbanda is a 2017 romantic comedy film which also showcases the evil practices happening in our society like the dowry system and gender stereotypes etc. The pacing of the film is quite good and boast of some really good performances from both the leads Rajkumar Rao and Kriti Kharbanda. The movie choices of Rajkumar Rao is just spot on and he has proved once again that he is the most versatile actors of this industry. However, there were many loopholes in the film because sometimes it felt unreal as to how the government employees can react in this way ?? The ending of the film is a big letdown as that kind of ending was really not necessary for this kind of film. The moral of the film is really good one and especially for the men out there that - " SUCCESS IS THE BEST REVENGE "

Very refreshing and realistic
ramendas2111 November 2017
After a long time I watched a movie which have all aspects of a middle class family. The depiction was so surreal you would feel it could happen to anyone.

It also tells you a lesson that don't hurt a man's ego wrongfully and communication is a key.

Rajkumar Rao as usual a star performer. Kriti did her job well. Big contribution from Nayani Dikshit.

Go and watch!

Two words: A Must Watch !
anchit-3082324 March 2018
Amidst the crap (all recent Salman and Sharukh Khan movies) made in India, this should have deserved to make money and appreciated by the audience.

Watch it if you like real scenarios, Not hypothetical ones
anshjaiswal-805925 December 2018
Before I begin, I wanna mention that its the first movie of the director. The first half of the movie was absolutely realistic that no one could find a flaw in it. Second half is relatively pale as well as bit fake but it never lets you to be dissapointed unless you already setup your mind that way.

As I began watching it, It exposed the issue of dowry straightforward. I felt like again they've come to teach me a lesson and talking hypothetical stuff I was not ready for. But it manages to keep the orignal scenarios alive. SOMTHING PRACTICAL!

The plot of any romantic movie is pretty much limited and predictable(love trinangles being an exception) and you can't help with this one too. But all in all, it keeps you connected throughout the duration and you won't feel cringe anywhere(daily soaps lack this feature). For few moments it could be compared to "My sassy girl(korean)" credit goes to chemistry between the two.

The acting of the cast was fine with a deserving mention of Rajkumar Rao, bringing all the emotions live. Kriti was fine yet appriciable.

-1 star for turning a bank clerk into an IAS officer without explaination, -1 star for unmatched background music and its layout and including tv serial type cinematography. +1 star for first and great attempt of director. Therefore, 9

Something different
Saurabh-L24 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
**Spoilers ahead

Only reason I am writing the review because I feel need to give justification to my rating. The movie is really good, it shows perfectly how sometimes you are not really wrong but not entirely right either. Characters potrayed, how their actions play out in the first half seems just real. I was watching this movie with expectations and it really was paying off as the 3/4th of the movie was done. What I really have complaint about is some characters had abrupt change for the happy ending- Satyendra's mom for instance, 6 months ago she was hating Aarati but suddenly she has no issues with her. I guess this should be assumed as happening behind the curtain- she being convinced by many people and what not but last part being ruse for the lead wasn't really my favourite part. Keeping all this aside movie really makes you take it seriously and makes you think why each character acted the way they did, that's where it is perfect and I love it.

Typical Bollywood ending
rahul-rdthecool-das24 February 2020
Initially the movie promised to be something else but half of the way director remembered that this is also a Bollywood movie, so he ended the movie in a particular way how the movie should not be ended precisely

A Delightful film with good performances
raghavrastogi-977516 December 2018
This movie is a romantic-revenge-drama which does present few prevalent social issues, without dwelling too much in depth. The plot does has some loop holes with logic and conviction/stand taken by the characters, but it's a movie afterall. All the actors fit in perfectly well and have done complete justice. Watchable for its little hatke romance story between the characters played by Kriti and Rajkumar.

Kabhi kisi ko khud se jiyada pyar mat karna or on second thoughts kar lena
gautam-moharil18 March 2020
Small town stories are getting very popular. People are moving away from stories of ultra rich people in ultra rich locales. So this writer had good idea set in a small town in Utter Pradesh. The story is relevant, has a social message and has drama. Perfect. No because it has no ending. Add the mandatory Bollywood tadka to it and the film becomes a mess. Kriti Kharbanda is the only saving grace. A bad film overall.

Ruined by climax. Good first half
milindgaikwad-3319213 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
What's good about the movie: Rajkummar Rao ( 1 extra star for this ). First half of the movie till Aarti gets to know her exam results.

What's bad: Typical Bollywood soup opera feel-good story. ( took away 8 stars )

Girl (Aarti played by Kriti ) runs away just before marriage after knowing that she has cleared the exam. She doesn't consider consulting with Sattu ( Rajkumar Rao) about her decision.

She doesn't contact Sattu for 5 long years and doesn't even know his wellbeing. Remember, he was a clerk when she left him.

She gets to know Sattu has become an officer in these 5 years, then let's tie the knot with him as he is an officer and matches her status.

Aarti was a gold digger since the start and was practical. He shouldn't have forgiven her after what he and his family went through the traumatic marriage incident and aftermaths of it.

Plot holes : Suddenly how Sattu's family started liking Aarti. Land bribe story was handled poorly and concluded abruptly.

When will Bollywood learn to finish off the story on dark climax which was expected in this movie?

Sattu shouldn't have forgiven her! Period

While giving points to a movie I ask myself "what was wrong" and then deduct the points but in this movie I couldn't.
drprashantjmd10 November 2017
Movies address social problems and offer solutions to them, at times oversimplified ones and these have to be dealt with in a span of 100-150 mins. This movie deals with dowry, women emancipation, arrange marriages and patriarchy. These are the problems a director faces and yet has to choose whether to entertain the viewers or sermonize them. While choosing to do the former Ratna Sinha leaves a simple message (I am not sure if she meant to): don't fight with these problems, transcend them! All the characters have looked beyond a particular stereotype, scores a 100% there. It didn't seem as if any of them were after justifying any ideology or dogma or preconceived notion, they were just guided by the demands of the situation. They just were, and did justice to there characters. The movie opens convincingly. The guy and gal are both apprehensive of the prospects but then they get along emphatically. There is humor. There is romance, honest and of an innocent kind. Then there is reality interspersed, about dowry-bargaining and the modicum of its acceptance, a sister trying to help; a mother keeping traditions- even if wrong. Another mother breaking them for her daughter. Both fathers fighting for there honor and the best for their children. First half ends with the girl running away minutes before her marriage but not without feeling for the groom. Second half begins with the possibility of revenge but the whole idea is passe. Hence the writer did well to avoid an all-out vengeful scenario. A scene or two may seem a little odd for the charade but in hindsight 'Sattu', in love as he was in, couldn't have disclosed his intentions for the sake of the plot of the movie. Rao's acting is great. Kriti's is superb. She looks like the dream- girl through and through and in addition is honest and unegotistical- unlike men- for the entire duration. In fact one should laud her for, what others may call- even if exceptionally- a stretched ending. She is the one who portrays love, unconditional love, in this period. All in all this movie is a great watch except for those bitter in love. Shaadi mein zaroor jana!

The Beauty Of Simplicity
rahuljathuz22 November 2018
The beauty of the protective feeling when your loved one loves you from within the heart but he/she doesn't showcase the feeling due to insecurity but is always there to protect you when you are low. That feeling is a blessing for many. Satyendra aka Sattu was always the protective shield to Aarti, his beloved who left him. Rajkumar Rao once again proved that the future of Bollywood is safe in his hands. Kriti Kharbanda's bollywood debut was through a cool movie. The movie has a little bit of cliche dialogues but it makes you feel good after the first watch. Please watch if you are a romantic movie lover

Great idea goes horribly wrong
sajidarshad20 November 2017
One Line Review: First half great. Second half too long and boring. Could have been better, if there was more suspense. Great idea goes horribly wrong

What's Good: Only good about the movie is Rajkummar Rao.

What's Bad: Second half, too melodrama and long Climax.

Watch or Not?: If you have nothing to do.

Touching story with a good lovestory
akhilsyngal11 August 2020
Great film with a good story . It's basically what the Indian audience wants in the film & frankly this film did justice . I wonder why it didnt do well commercially despite being a Masala entertainer. If a film like half girlfriend can do well then why can't this film ?

SHAADI MEIN ZAROOR AANA rests on an interesting idea but the treatment is lacklustre
fillerruth9 November 2017
SHAADI MEIN ZAROOR AANA's first half has issues but you let it pass as the goings on has genuinely some nice moments. The manner in which Sattu and Aarti fall for each other is cute. The entire dowry portion is well thought of. The dramatic sequence when Aarti runs away is dragging but makes for a decent watch. The second half also begins well but soon enough, the film goes downhill. One fails to understand how exactly do the makers want to present Sattu? Should the viewers sympathize with him for all the wrongdoings? Or should they hate him for the villainous and even lecherous way with which he tortures Aarti? The entire bribery investigation sequence ends on a dramatic note and one expects the film to end there. But the film drags for another 20-25 minutes. This portion is again needlessly lengthened and is highly predictable.

Kamal Pandey's story is interesting but comes too late in the day. Maybe it is not intentionally done but the first half is very similar to the first hour of BADRINATH KI DULHANIA and the last 20 minutes are eerily similar to BAREILLY KI BARFI, which also starred Rajkummar Rao. Kamal Pandey's screenplay is fine at few places but overall it's quite a letdown. Kamal Pandey's dialogues are simple and decent.

Ratnaa Sinha's direction doesn't make the desired impact. The film is unconvincing and silly at many points. Many scenes go on and on despite the fact that it's clear what the maker wants to show in the beginning of the said scene itself.

Rajkummar Rao as always delivers a great performance. As the lover boy Sattu, he's endearing and as the ruthless DM, he's dashing and plays both the avatars brilliantly. Kriti Kharbanda does a much better job here than her previous Hindi releases. However her character keeps crying in the second half and after a point, it becomes too much. Govind Namdev (Aarti's father) is fair. Vipin Sharma (Sattu's maternal uncle) leaves a mark. Manoj Pahwa (Aarti's uncle Jogi) is the best out of the supporting cast. Nayani Dixit comes next and dominates the pre interval portion. K K Raina (Sattu's father Jugal Kishore Mishra) underplays his part nicely. Navni Parihar (Aarti's mother) and the actors playing Aarti's brother, Sattu's mother, Sharad, Aarti's junior and Pramod are fine. Songs are disappointing. 'Jogi' and 'Main Hoon Saath Tere' are forgettable. 'Tu Banja Gali Benaras Ki' is the best song of the lot. 'Pallo Latke' is played in the end credits. Prasad Sashte's background score is dramatic and tries to enhance the impact.

Suresh Beesaveni's cinematography is satisfactory. Ballu Saluja's editing is one of the biggest culprits. Pradip Singh and Arup Adhikari's art direction is nothing great.

On the whole, SHAADI MEIN ZAROOR AANA rests on an interesting idea but the treatment is lacklustre. With lack of buzz, the film will have a tough time at the box office.
