Do watch but don't compare.
ronniefreestyle4 September 2020
I'm glad to have watched this. Maybe this is the beginning of new concepts in India. However the series was too short I felt for what it was trying to give us. Since it is first of it's kind , I often felt that they need to be providing us more information to understand and accept, time travel within the story. Half part of me was accepting this , while the other half was sceptical. But a good use of my 2 hours and I like the new age cinema coming to India. Well done and give us more new concepts.

JL 50 is a Science Fiction Thriller...Onetime watch!!
Rudy_0074 September 2020
Yes the story thought was a bit different but the storyline would have been much stronger and compact. Some Points have not been binded compactly and lacks in coordination. But with a bit different flavour it is a single time watch. Abhay Deol is superb and Pankaj kapoor also added some spices in the curry. Overall the Webseries is good to watch but could have been a masterpiece which it misses out.

Probably first of its kind attempt in Indian Cinema

Warning: Spoilers
There is a lots of negativity regarding this series on various sources. But follow a simple rule 'Lesser the expectations lesser the disappointment. I would like to say that this series deserves views as probably it is the first of its kind attempt in Indian Cinema. Very low budget project with very limited resources but I feel all of these used very efficiently. Five main characters and mostly four to five supporting characters. Story of a plane crash and there is no scene of actual crash. But you will not miss the scene for sure. Ashoka sequence is useless or It could have done in much much better way. A scene where Piyush Mishra escapes and drives a latest car (with latest technology like power steering etc.) swiftly which I guess not at all possible for a man who has just time travelled to 2019 from 1984. The conclusion is you will definitely feel something different In Indian Cinema) if not unique for sure.

THIS NEEDS SUPPORT, SO PLEASE DO IT.
MandalBros-54 September 2020
The series is about a flight, that went missing in 1984, crash lands 35 years later in 2019. As you can see the plot is very much interesting.

It's not a review, just a request - please watch this. Because this is a very new concept for India and after finishing the series you'll wish for more episodes. Yes it's not perfect series, the reason may be it's budget. But Hats off to the makers and Sony LIV for doing such type of experiment with sci-fi genre. Do Support this.

Available on Sony LIV.

The woman who plays the pilot is a very bad actor.
cool_jojo_0078 September 2020
Other than that some good portrayals and a dumbed down version of time travel. I don't understand why the scriptwriters try to spoon feed the audience trying to cater to a wider market ? It leaves the realism out of the events.

The woman who plays the pilot has a pretty bad dialogue delivery. Kept annoying me whenever she spoke. No way anybody speaks like that knowing they have arrived in the future ! It was pretty laughable. Weakest link of the show. Show could be crisper and more slick.

Worth a watch just for the effort made by the filmmaker to create something new.
Perspicuity124 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
JL 50 is a movie that has been cut into four parts and released as a series. Unfortunately, any film that carries an unconventional theme finds it difficult to attract buyers. JL50 is a science fiction movie with time travel at its core, but it's not as complex as 'Dark' or 'Interstellar'. Going back in time and changing the past may not be as simple as depicted in the movies, but then delving too much into it might just turn the film into a Physics class, so it's quite understandable if the filmmakers don't focus too much on the consequences.

The movie does however talk about things that are rarely talked about in Hindi cinema, and would make for a very interesting watch if a proper detailed web series is made on those topics. The third episode of 'JL 50' is easily the best part of the show, where Shantanu talks with Doctor Vishwas at the Kolkata Science Research Centre. The stories that are told by Vishwas are so interesting that I felt that they deserved a show of their own. It's rare to see someone talk about worm holes in an Indian film, so it was quite fascinating to see Professor Subroto Das and Shantanu have a conversation about it. Hopefully, someday a producer and director would gather the courage to delve deeper into these subjects.

When you have actors like Pankaj Kapur, Piyush Mishra and Abhay Deol, then the acting has to be top notch. Pankaj Kapur and Piyush Mishra have such a unique way of talking that one can just watch them deliver their dialogues and be happy about it. Abhay Deol has once again delivered a very grounded performance, it's quite a shame that this wonderful actor doesn't get a lot of opportunities. JL50 also features Bengali actress Amrita Chattopadhyay, who looks extremely beautiful in the small role that she has in the film. I wish Amrita had a bigger role, because as an actress she holds a lot of promise.

JL50 is definitely not a great film, but the creative team deserves to be applauded for trying out something so unique. Hopefully more filmmakers would make an effort to step out of their comfort zone and create movies and shows that are unlike anything that has been made before in Indian cinema.

Good concept executed badly
avthedemon5 September 2020
What started as a good and interesting premise ended up badly and cliched. Abhay Deol acts ok. But Pankaj Kapoor trying to be a Bengali fails miserably, and so the other caste members. Would have loved if they included real Bengali actors. The movie which was for certain reasons split into a series of 4 episodes did nothing to live up to the high expectations it made with the trailer. It could have been a bit more mysterious, sci-fi'ish instead of spilling the beans very early and making the whole movie predictable.

First time an Indian movie represents the proper Physics
gangulishuva5 September 2020
First time an Indian movie represents the proper Physics (Time travel & it's side effects) and intelligently connect it with Indian mythology. A must watch web series for all Physics lovers. Personally I love this series. Director did a good research on every shots. Beside the core Physics, he may be inspired by Bearmuda Triangle incidents.

Good try by Bollywood
soumeebiswas4 September 2020
It was not as gripping as expected. Though a new concept in Bollywood on Time Travel and quantam physics, a bit more research would have done good. Also Abhay and Pankaj Kapoor performance was the highlight, few characters and plot was not required at all. Expecting more and better science fiction from Bollywood.

Below Mark !!!
winak8 September 2020
Could have been an impressive series. Wrong casting was a major issue for me. Abhay Deol overall has a weak and wimpish personality so he looks out of place in all action sequences, therefore missing the impact it should have. Piyush Mishra did not look like a mad scientist, he just looked MAD.Pankaj Kapoor was best in his role but his role was too short to leave an impact. In the end the series seemed to have been wrapped up in a hurry in an anticlimactic fashion before one could savor the plot. The series that missed its mark.

Very disappointed with Abhay
i-m-mukeshkumar6 September 2020
I decided to watch thia series after seeing a rating of 8+ on imdb. However, I would just rate it as 6. Its just a series to sell time travel concept. Its a sci-fi genere movie but they haven't even shown a plan properly in the movie. Dont know what happened to Abhay - never see such a poor acting from him in any role. Scenes were not properly directed. Pankaj Kapoor has just donr Justice to his role and good actors like Rajesh Sharma and Piyush Mishra didnt have much to their share in the series. Hope next sci-fi attempt from Bollywood on time travel comes out to be better one.

TRANSFIXING

#FinalVerdict

Director Shailender Vyas' JL 50 - a SonyLIV original series - takes a giant leap in terms of execution. The soul is very desi. JL 50 is beauty (read good looking series) with brains (read content). JL 50 emerges trumps in all the three departments that are absolutely necessary for an alluring sci-fi series. Firstly, it has ample edge-of-the-seat thrills. Secondly, it boasts of luminous performances. Thirdly, it has a narrative that keeps you yearning for more.

You've got to gamble huge to triumph huge. Kudos to producers Deepti Singh, Devendra Gandhi, Ritika Anand, Abhayanand Singh-Piiyush Singh's Golden Ratio Films, Miten Shah and Manish Pal Singh along with SonyLIV because they are The Supreme Gambler! JL 50 pushes the envelope further.

JL 50 is very Indian at heart. Director Shailender Vyas may have been inspired by international flicks as far as the plot is concerned, but he serves the right masala in those 4 episodes. Moreover, he brings out the best in his actors to deliver an impactful series. For the amazing screenplay, for the speedy yet smooth stream of the narrative and for the fantastic unfolding of the written material, director Shailender Vyas merits top admiration for every act of his. JL 50 is not merely a great looking series, but also has soul!

Shailender Vyas-Sushant Mishra's crisp editing keeps you on tenterhooks. On one hand, JL 50 offers its share of thrills, on the other, there's a synchronized drama that runs parallel in the story. Bradley J Stuckel's cinematography is top-notch. The background music is equally electrifying.

Abhay Deol effortlessly glides into the character. Pankaj Kapur, take a bow! He's terrific. Rajesh Sharma is natural. Piyush Mishra aces the menacing act. Ritika Anand and Pujarni Ghosh deliver super-confident performances. The supporting actors lend able support.

To sum up, SonyLIV's JL 50 has a clear plot to hook the viewer in place rather than impress with empty special effects, unlike so many bloated sci-fi series. Do watch this series to partake in writer-director Shailender Vyas' prodigious imagination.

Good concept - shoddy execution
asardeshpande3 November 2020
It's actually a very low budget 'movie' which for some reason has been broken down into 4 parts as a web series - don't know why it wasn't released as a movie instead. Anyways, the premise is very interesting and a better screen play would have done wonders. Instead what we get is a slow, half baked story that never really takes off. Acting is ok, but apart from Abhay, others have hardly any screen time.. the story demanded a little more scientific background, a little more drama, a better climax, slicker screen-play and a bit of situational humour. The concept was brilliant but it needed someone of the calibre of a Speilberg or Nolan to pull it off. I understand they were working on a low budget, but they cud have done so much more even within that.

An interesting, fresh and realistic Sci-Fi series from India.
handgenishant5 September 2020
JL 50 is India's finest and never seen before work in Sci-fi genre. It looks realistic makes us believe that time travel can happen means comparing to other indian crap sci-fi work. It has thrill, mystery, emotions and all stuff that a good series should have. The content is fresh and new to the Indian audience. You will not regret after watching this. Surely it opens the door for more stuff like this.
