Would be pretty good...if the kid wasn't such an absolute MORON.
strattonsmith186 January 2021
This show is single-handedly ruined by the main kid, Cranston's "son". Literally making one horrible decision after another. Trying my best not to blame the actor for terrible writing, but even his acting is lacking. I know that's harsh, but...damn. Really let down 5 episodes into the first Season. Will update rating higher if anything happens to change my mind...but the show is no greater than a 5 right now. And that's being relatively generous.

Decent show, but the kid is ruining the show
mrc30330 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I don't blame the actor playing Adam (the kid), but man is this kid an annoying, unstable, reckless, overly-emotional, scrambled piece of horrible writing. I am 4 episodes in, and I hate this kid as much as any character I have ever seen, but not because he is evil, but because he is the most annoying, icky, poorly written character I have endured for a while. I am still giving the show a 6 at this point, but to be honest, every time this kid comes on screen I start to dislike the show.

This kid is, I think, the person you are supposed to be rooting for, but honestly, I can't wait until the bad guys catch him and he gets written off the show in an unpleasant and satisfying scene.

There are other actors I normally enjoy, who are wildly irritating, and after 4 episodes, I cannot list one character I like at all or even find interesting. At this point, the only thinking keeping me going is the lack of viewable content at the end of 2020, the promise of the actually good concept, and the hope that at least one of these actors will save the abysmally bad writing and boring directing.

I am really hoping for this kid to be written off the show. But, to be honest, the longer I watch this, the more the actions of all the characters are irrational and the scenes are boring. It is increasingly poorly written, and I am losing my patience with it, and I don't think I can recommend this to anyone.

The Kid Adam Completely Ruins The Show
tvdefrancesco26 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I literally hate this kid. The Judge should have put his asthma riddled self out of his misery years ago. First off he gets in an accident where he leaves a kid battered and dying on the side of the road like a piece of garbage and then leaves him there to die definitively. When he's crawling around having an asthma attack I wanted to kick him in the teeth. I'm not making fun of anyone with a condition but come on this kid is laughable. Then he starts dating the sister of the kid he murdered and by this point he literally has no remorse for what he did or not a care in the world. He also knows someone took the fall for him and died, and an entire family was killed for what he did but he doesn't care at all. Between all this he's a whiny self absorbed kid who never listens to anyone, admits to people what he's done and doesn't appreciate what his father is doing for him. In fact he gives the father a hard time. I texted my buddy in week 3 and said the kid absolutely ruins this show. And after week 7 it's only gotten worse. I really hope the mob kills him. After reading the reviews I'm glad to know I'm not alone.

The annoying kid ruins it
sumtim3s00n28 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I actually really liked the premise and that it had potential. But it all gets muddled between somewhat silly actions of the father trying to help his son but much much more than that, the absolutely id1otic son, who acts like he is living in a Disney fairyland where he talks to bambi and every morning skips through dew covered meadows with unicorns. On top of that he is dumb as a doorknob and annoying/goes against his father just for the sake of being annoying and stup1d.

I understand the shock, the guilt and things like that but they overwrote this kid's innocense beyond belief. , All in all, quality idea, couldve been a good show but its not above average, often drops far below that, mostly due to the kid Adam.

Smartly written & excellent acting. Suspenseful
dgrant-7644621 January 2023
The hate for "the kid" is bizarre. He's a young, insecure teen that suffers from debilitating asthma. This is realistic writing folks. Not all 17 year olds are Jr. Superheroes. Brian Cranston is on top of his game & the suspense is non stop pretty quickly into the show. Many of these negative reviews are based on the first episode alone & frankly, are pretty stupid. Post Katrina left areas of the city thinly populated and there's a reason why thugs are at the spot the kid stops at. If you understand that an untreated asthma attack combined with high adrenaline can mess you up, you won't think what happened is unrealistic. But you have to get past the first 15 minutes to see the realism the writing reflects about the main characters, New Orleans and it's residents. If you liked Breaking Bad, you will like this show. Ignore the haters. This is a great show.

A must watch drama! Crime, corruption, murder, suspense, it has it all!
katiebugg-4997119 March 2023
I just finished season two and let me tell you, this drama series has everything you want in a crime show!! Season one was very good, but I have to admit, the finale of season one had me a little frustrated. I didn't understand why they chose THAT ending. I had no idea where they would take this show, but man, having just finished season two they executed everything perfectly. The storyline is great! Everything comes full circle. The cast does an amazing job. Big Mo is one of my favorite characters in any TV series. Crime, suspense, plot twists...highly recommend! It's a high quality, well thought out show which is something that's becoming harder and harder to come by these days. Can't wait for Season 3!

Love the show hate the kid!

Warning: Spoilers
Cannot at all stand Adam. He's a complete and totally brainless idiot who I swear doesn't know how to A: speak in a full coherent and clear sentence, and B: does not get the very elementary basics of creating an alabi, keeping his mouth shut, or listening to his Dad. He is a total screw up whom acts incapable of normal functioning. Because of him, and only because of him, there is a good chunk of the show that is painfully boring, painful annoying and plain infuriating. Otherwise great show and Brian Cranston again delivers!! The kid who played Kofi was phenomenal. There is some very solid acting here which makes it worth watching even if there is torture here and there in every scene Adam is in!!

Yes the kid is an idiot, that's what makes it realistic.
jbefhp25 March 2021
The kid has been an idiot since the first episode. His idiotic choices are what got him into the mess in the first place. He's behaving how most sheltered 17 year old kids would behave if they got in a situation like that. He lacks any sort of street smarts that I'm not sure why people always ask for characters to be like human beings but then get mad when they act like human beings.

The show is great. I was on the edge of my seat and my heart was pounding. Everyone did an amazing job and especially Bryan Cranston

Has its moments... but believe what you read about the dumb kid
Ottodane20 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This show has a whopper of a first episode. Suspenseful, well acted, if a little implausible. Actually, that is a good description of the entire show so far. But that I god... damn... kid.

I often see people be so forgiving towards actors but have no problems crapping all over the writers. While I do agree that some of the writing falls short, in particular for the kid Adam, the actor truly is not good and is the bigger reason why his scenes suck so bad. While his dialogue is not very good, there are scenes where I can imagine them going over a lot better if they were preformed by a better actor.

Same goes for the "oh so clever and witty" teenage daughter of the main villain. Her deliver falls short on nearly every line, and her writing is the worst in the show, at least as far as dialogue goes (her character development isn't bad and it often makes sense) but whose genius idea was it to put these two characters together on screen?? Let's forget for a moment how coincidental their relationship is (and how unrealistic it is that this weird scrawny kid who acts like a school shooter gets all the girls despite a complete lack of charm Or charisma) and lets, for a moment, forgive the fact that it is probably the most forced scenario to breed conflict in the whole show, and let us just watch how cringey their scenes are.

My god. I'm not joking, it is SO bad. Their scenes usually consist of weird boy barely talking and instead just quietly staring at her in awe as she spews cringey dialogue about, well a bunch of nonsense really. She will quote poets and philosophers, go of on 'quirky' monologues that sound like she is trying to write an 8th grade English paper, and try her damndest to be profound, and every time she's finally finished talking, we cut back to weird boy who just gives her another one of his signature longing looks. You know the one. That look that says "woah, this girl ACTUALLY gets me! She's SMART! She UNDERSTANDS! I'm So SURPRISED at how COOL and INTELLIGENT she is!" That you have seen from every romantic teen drama ever made.

Not joking, there is a scene where the two of them need to leap a fence to get into an abandoned park of sorts, and weird boy puts his hands out to help give her a boost, but oh no, quirky girl don't need no help! So she pays him no mind and instead CLIMBS THE FENCE ALL BY HERSELF??? IMPOSSIBLE! And of course, the camera then lingers on weird boy, and guess what he does? Yep you guessed it. He gives her THE LOOK. He is just so effing impressed by her duuude.

Anyways, Cranston is great as always and there are some scenes where he definitely feels a lot like Walter White again, more situationally than how he's acting. There are also a couple of seemingly obvious callbacks to Breaking Bad, including a scene with a box cutter. They may well be a coincidences but they sure seem referential. It's overall pretty entertaining and well made, but that kid nearly ruins the whole show, especially since the plot is about saving his life. Because honestly, most of the time I just wish he'd die already.

Why is Adam so dumb?
POIguy16 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Your Honor is a dark, gritty tale that asks what would you do to protect your child? What if your child killed the son of a powerful crime family. Would you lie to protect them? Your Honor attempts to answer this question, and I think it does a great job of exploring the ethics of our justice system. All of the actors and actresses do an amazing job. Michael Stuhlbarg steals the show with a chilling performance as Jimmy Baxter. The tone and mood is perfect for the subject matter, and the pacing was excellent. I thought the ending with Eugene accidentally shooting Adam worked - it's a bitter taste of revenge for Michael that really packs a punch.

The only thing that kind of ruins the show for me is Adam. I understand he's just a kid, but wow he is written incredibly dumb. He tries to revive Rocco and calls 911 only to leave the scene. I was kind of okay with this since this was before he commits to covering up the crime, but then he goes to a nearby gas station to get gas? Why wouldn't you get out of the area as quickly as possible? Then, he tells his teacher about the crime after his father specifically tells him to not tell anyone. And worst of all, he makes Fia Baxter his girlfriend. . . is this kid trying to get caught??? It was so cringy to watch him make so many mistakes after comitting to cover up the crime. Even Michael makes a few too many mistakes - like cleaning out the car in plain view of everyone else - really? To me the mistakes these characters make bring the show down from a 10 to a 9. Other than that it's an amazing show.

Really?
farshidkarimi19 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The boy goes to a location, places a photo and some flowers next to it. In a blink of an eye, many black guys become detached from every corner and swarm around him. BUT, he runs over the motorcyclist, the loud thud, the shriek of brakes, some houses around, he spends nearly 10 minutes struggling to his inhaler and checking the breathing of the victim and ... but no one appears !!!!!! and no one sees anything from the houses !!!! So, he can run away UNSEEN !!!!

And, the forensic team and the police do not do a good job of checking the accident scene. WHY? because they could not find the crushed inhaler which was right in the middle of the accident scene. But, the bodyguard ? of the father can immediately find the inhaler. Oh boy, what a forensic team and what policemen !!!!

Why does this series remind me of "Dead to Me"?

The ending - nope
ssccardinal3 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Maybe it matters just to me, but how can the federal government stop a state murder prosecution and take the defendant - who everyone knows actually killed someone in the course of attempting to kill someone else - away without so much as a polite notification. That's a rhetorical question, by the way.

I enjoyed the show, despite all of the many flaws catalogued in other reviews. The longer it went, however, the worse it got.

Other questions that bother me and are not rhetorical:

Why did Little Mo change his mind?

What is the judge's intentions when he returns to prison at the end of the show? They did not show anyone forcing him to do so. Am I missing something?

Great suspense but rushed/lazy and overly convenient ending
mt-9363822 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Really enjoyed series but it would have been stronger and more plausible without the Adam's romance's. The teacher/student story was a little off but then the romance with Baxter's daughter made it downrught preposterous. Additionally, the death of the mother was never fully explored. There could be conclusions drawn (the judge murdered her, etc) but that was never explained. That was another useless side story. I felt the ending was a bit lazy and overly convenient. It did male for some excellent binge watching.

Don't pay attention to the comments about the son...
glennmaillet26 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I almost didn't watch the series based on the negative comments about the son but am SO glad I decided to try it anyways because the series is amazing with twists and turns at every angle!!! Although the story is ABOUT the son and his actions, his character makes up about 10% of the scenes and he is NOT annoying at all!!! He plays the part well as a teenage boy who's mother was murdered and then has to deal with the consequences of having committed a hit and run resulting in the death of a mobster's 17 yr old son... The story is about a father's unconditional love for his child and desire to protect him at all costs and he uses his power as a judge to do just that by concealing the hit and run.. it's a BRILLIANT series so don't let comments about the son deter you- I found him to be a very good actor in the circumstance that he was in. If you watched Breaking Bad, you will love this series. I give it a 10/10.

Have people seen a 1 star show.
c-gribble907 May 2021
Not sure how any legitimate person can give a show 1/10.

From that basis, you are stating that the show lacks in sound, acting, direction, shot selection, lighting, dialogue...or any basic film making decision.

Is this truly one of the worst things you have seen? Or are you revelling in hyperbole?

Its not perfect but its not trash.

Don't listen to the haters!
reggiemiller-590775 February 2023
Don't listen to all the bad reviews! This show is spectacular. The first season was a little slow but they are building up the characters and the plot so that it has the chance to be long running series. I mean the amount of scores under 4 is absurd. Do you idiots know what a 1 star show consists of??? It's a show that looks like it is shot in a basement somewhere and produced by a 13 year old. With the amount of bad television out right now we need all the well written shows we can get. I know for me, I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel trying to find something to watch and when you morons give decent shows low ratings and bad reviews it forces the networks to cancel shows prematurely. So please use a little common sense and think about others before you give a show a 1! I've seen pretty much all the good shows out and in my opinion have pretty good taste in movies and shows. So I give you my word that this is a decent show. It's probably an 8 but I gave it a ten to cancel out at least one false rating. Do yourself a favor and draw your own opinion on this one. You won't be sorry. It's fantastic!

Kept me wanting to watch.
bernardpeel18 March 2021
A sign of a good show is when you want to keep playing the next episode and you sneak bits in on the phone whoever the opportunity arises. All the people complaining about son don't get it. Is he an annoying dweeb? Absolutely. But that's the intention - it requires Cranston in his role to have to take on all the thinking and all the doing, to keep them both safe. If the son was a well put together, articulate, athletic, affable character, it wouldn't have near the same impact. It adds to the desperation and frustration of Cranston trying with all his will to stay one step ahead of the bad guys.

Ruined by Adam
dewberrydays14 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The premise of the show is compelling! The son ruins it. The actor isn't great, but it's the writing for that character that's truly horrific. The way that he inserts himself into the investigation and undermines everything that his father is trying to do to protect him. The way he couldn't give two figs about everything his father has sacrificed for him, his life and career. He is such a useless POS that it is really difficult to root for him. And by the final episode, I honestly just wanted him to go to jail or be killed by the Baxter's. I cannot with him. And his decisions don't even make sense, like why in the world would he get into a relationship with the sister of the boy that he killed, knowing that her dad is a mob boss? He ruins the show.

Convenient coincidences
zudtvtb28 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
For my own mental health I might have to stop watching this show. It is riddled with convenient ridiculous coincidences. Lazy dialog, cliche sub plots. Dialog : "it's good for adam ... and what's good for adam ( long pause ). ( her response) : " want to go to bed ?" . Adam who is cool enough to get the hottest 23 year old teacher in school can't figure out what a cover up is or how it works. He's basically 9 years old. Also who are we supposed to root for here ? Adam belongs in jail , he killed someone by being irresponsible and negligent. And fled the scene. Why are we rooting for him to get away with it? This show and the writers have embarrassed themselves. With that said Cranston is very good, and the young actor who plays Kofi was excellent.

Love the series for what it is!
UniqueParticle23 March 2021
I don't understand quite yet why the series got hate because of the kid, he's incredible in my opinion and so is everyone else! I absolutely love Bryan Cranston from numerous projects mainly Breaking Bad which triumphs all crime dramas. I'm very intrigued where the rest of episodes lead up to, been meaning to start Your Honor for awhile.

Season 1 is much better easily a 10, season 2 is more at least an 8.2.
