I actually like the show. I grew up watching the original party of five but I like how the writers gave this show a similar flavor. It appeals to a my younger crowd but I've found myself looking forward to waiting for the next episode each week.

Propaganda? I disagree

I saw the comment that it should have stuck with the original premise. That would be just too much like the original. No one wants that. And why is real life too much for people? You get diversity in color/race but, not in that color or race expressing their truth? It's not about being political. It's about what is real. And this is real for some people. We can't knock the experience of others because it makes some uncomfortable. It's a great show with a great premise. And I can't wait to see how their story unfolds.
Family Doesn't Need to Separate

I'm totally okay with reboots if done well. This so seems to be a fairly good drama with good characters and good actors. Of course, it has to deal with a current issue in the US. I do like that it shows the law and the legality of the issue. My only question is, if they were going to make this take on it, then why didn't the kids just move with their parents? They could all stay together that way, no matter what. So, this doesn't make sense and the reason for my rating.
worst

The five Acosta children, Emilio, Lucia, Beto, Valentina, and baby Rafael, are forced to live on their own after their parents get deported to Mexico.
This is a reboot of the 1994 TV teen melodrama. The major difference is that this version tries to incorporate the immigration debate to the show's detriment. In the original, the parents died and that is a large part of the premise. The kids are alone. In this version, the parents are omnipresent. Right off the bat, this show is destroying the original's main premise. On top of that, these kids are really annoying. The original's kids can be bratty at times but they end up together because they have no one else. The little sister is not always whining about going to her parents. It also doesn't make sense that the parents would leave the baby with the other kids. Basically, every change in the show makes it worst and it all adds up to an inferior show.

Wonderful and timely reboot

I generally hate to see TV reboots for shows I loved, like the original party of five;however, the re-envisioning provided by this new version allows it to pack all the emotion, drama, and portrayal of family of the original series. While it is always hard to tell how a show will go, after watching the pilot, I think this show has incredible potential.
Love this! Great show!!!!!

I was a huge fan of the original from the 90's and was so excited they were bringing it back. And I'm not disappointed! I love the new spin they put on the show making it about a Hispanic family who deal with their parents being deported along with everyday struggles as teens and young adults. The characters personalities are very similar to the original cast members Lacy Chabert, Scott Wolf, Neve Campbell and Matthew Fox. I hope a lot of people check this show out and it gets picked up for a season 2 the first episode is great so far!
Good show. Not greatest. Definitely not bad though

Yes, the details aren't exactly like the original, but who cares? Why would you want it to be?
The show is good. The story is good. The acting can and will get better, but it's still good. Yes, some moments are cheesy. The original was good, but one has to admit even its first few episodes were just as cheesy and Neve Campbell can't act for crap. She's basically Kristen Stewart of the 1990's. You have to go in unbiased and you definitely can't go in on it with the R-wing/L-wing crap in your head, that all these other reviews blab about. You have to take the show for what it is: The story of a family torn apart by the absence of their parents, trying to make it with the eldest sibling as their guardian. I like it and I hope it's here to stay.

The only reason this is called Party of Five is because they knew it wasn't good enough to stand on it's own. It would have no draw at all if it didn't try to pull in fans of the old show. It's poorly acted, it's poorly writen, and it offers literally no neuance... you know, like the real world has.
Because it's not bad, you're just bigoted

Is this a perfect show?
No, but it's discussing a real situation for millions of people. Real children left in America, alone, because of a flawed and broken system.
This show, while more pretty than reality, has potential to explore an actual problem, beyond what most people here like...
I've never review bombed a show because the OPINION being presented went against my political views, I just don't watch the show. So I'm giving them a ten, so hopefully more people tune in and watch a humanizing look onto what our president is doing and demonizing...

Ditto to what the other reviewers have said regarding how awful this show is. On top of all that awfulness, I was constantly distracted by the very obvious accent the actress portraying the twin sister has. 'Wait, she has an accent - but the other kids don't. The parents have different accents. I'm confused.'
And the little sister is even more annoying than Lacy Chabert was on the original, if that's possible. Poor story, bad casting and unlikable characters. Ulch.

I've never seen the original party of five but just seeing this first episode of the reboot i'm already hooked on the show. the issue of ripping families apart, deportation, and the repeal of DACA are very real for many many people in this country. i was surprised to see only a 4/10 rating but i suppose i've never reviewed anything before so maybe it's never what i would expect. needless to say, the first episode made me cry. it feels so real and it is real to many. that's why i recommend this. i don't know how the rest of the season will pan out, but i'm very much so looking forward to it.
Stop it...the reboots

What We've Been Missing
sammymgarcia9 January 2020
As a fan of the original I will say that the concept was great and the execution was good and we were left with a memorable show.
With this version we have the same concept with an undated setting including a very timely message. As the son of an undocumented man, I will say that this show hits home and brings to light many issues that people refuse to explore in today's media. It starts a conversation for us, and through that we can explore a narrative that we may have been unfamiliar with.
If that's not for you, that's fine. However you'll be missing out on a much needed, and until now, absent voice.

This is pandering at it's finest. They also have a problem. How do you explain why the series isn't over after 6 episodes, because the parents simply turned around and came back. If it goes on longer than that, the parents discovered they're enjoying life far more without all those kids.
It's Not Party of Five but...

So first I'll say that Freeform or whoever choose to call this show Party of Five clearly was hoping to stir up nostalgia in viewers of the original thinking it would provide viewers which would work for a single episode since aside from 5 siblings this show has little else in common with the original. Oh yeah and theres a family owned restaurant and there's one brother who's in his early 20s and there's both a brother and a Sister who are in their teens and then we have a tween little sister and a baby brother. That's the end of the similarities.
The original was about 5 siblings who'd parents were killed in a car accident and there fight to stay together as well as morn the loss of their parents as well as get back to as normal of a life they could have after such a tragedy.
In this version the parents are alive and were deported. In the first episode the eldest sister while talking to another student at her school about how they have a house without adult supervision and how cool it is the girl attempts to relate and mentions her parents divorce and gets shut down quickly with a annoyed it's not the same thing" which is about how I felt with this show and it changing parents dying to being deported and acting as if they are the same thing. It's horrible how families are being ripped apart but at least they're alive. At least they know while not together that seeing mom and dad is still a possibility.
That being said the show is good. The acting is pretty strong for a pilot and once you get over the dirty trick tv executives used to gain viewership it's an extremely moving and heart breaking story that needs to be told. If they had given the show a different name they could've made a show that's good and didn't have a show with history that it would be compared to and probably could've reached more people. However I fear those who need to be reached will more than likely not watch the shown due to the poor choice to call this party of five, giving the bigots and racist a reason to never even hear the message.
It's good and could've been great had they simply not called it Party of Five.

I actually think this is a great series, that shows what many families in USA are going through, if you think it's sending the wrong message you clearly don't understand the main problem, it's easy to judge when you are living in a fairytale, don't tell me you wouldn't do anything to give your family a better opportunity, this tv show is all about that, a family looking for the American dream and unfortunately it took a bad turn. It really shows you the grieve that thousands of kids go through everyday all over the United States
Wow pathetic
Beatlesale27 January 2020
Really?! The original series was about a family whose parents die and they try to carry on. This show their parents get rightfully deported because they are ILLEGAL and I'm supposed to care ha! Just have their parents die like the original and not try to have some pathetic message
Great show for this generation!!!
Joshtheys24 January 2020
I know ppl are upset cause it's not like the original but what we need to realize is yes by making these shows they want to draw old fans like us back, shows like charmed, Roswell, ect. But its mainly for this generation to get into! It may be a political statement but it shows what ppl go through in situations like this. We all have the right to say what they want and rate how they rate. Just give this show a chance! This cast is really good:) and no matter the outcome is (hoping for another season).
This should be taken off the air immediately
