Netflix is adding a robust line-up of popular programs to its slate in March.
In addition to rom-coms like Matthew Mcconaughey’s “Ghosts of Girlfriend’s Past,” “He’s Just Not That Into You” and “Always a Bridesmaid,” the streamer is also adding a few classics like “Goodfellas” and “The Shawshank Redemption” starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins. The latter film also serves as an analogy for actor Macaulay Culkin’s journey to freedom, according to his Esquire interview.
Original Netflix shows coming to the platform next month include “Lost Girls,” “Crip Camp” and Season 3 of “Elite.” Based on a true story, “Lost Girls” follows a mother who, in her desperate search to find her missing daughter, helps to uncover a string of unsolved murders. Amy Ryan, Gabriel Byrne and Thomasin Mckenzie make up the cast.

With February 29th fast approaching – this is a Leap Year, remember – Netflix is preparing to roll out a fresh helping of new content for March 2020.
It’s a familiar combination of original series, time-honored classics and beloved franchise films, with next month set to herald the arrival of Resident Evil: Apocalypse and its undead sequel, Extinction. Sure, it’s a far cry from the quality and craft of The Lord of the Rings – speaking of which, both the Twin Towers and The Return of the King will be departing Netflix in four weeks’ time – but the saga of Alice still carved out an audience to call its own.
Also peppered throughout Netflix’s March 2020 catalog are some big-name horror titles and edge-of-your-seat thrillers, including Signs and the third season of Ozark. And then there’s the third season of Castlevania, which, it’s fair to say, has been a long time coming.

Here's what's new on Netflix in March 2020! We've got a complete list of what's leaving, too.
Normally the big story for each month of Netflix new releases are the exciting batch of Netflix original series and movies arriving. For Netflix's new releases for March 2020, things are a little bit different. Yes, there are some cool originals here but...look at those movies!
March 1 sees the arrival of Corpse Bride, The Shawshank Redemption, There Will Be Blood, and Goodfellas! Martin Scorsese likely can't unilaterally decide when and where his movies stream, but it is a happy coincidence that Goodfellas will now exist alongside The Irishman.
As for those Netflix originals...Ozark is the biggest returning hit in March. The story of a very corrupt family airs its third season on March 27. Also of note are Castlevania season 3 (March 5), Altered Carbon: Resleeved (March 19). But really after Goodfellas, nothing else was really necessary.

Netflix is out with its list of everything coming and going in March, and highlights include “Ozark” Season 3, coming March 27, and the Brazilian version of the popular reality competition “The Circle,” coming March 11.
There’s good news and bad news. The good news is we’re gaining some beloved mid-2000s films, like “He’s Just Not That Into You,” “Valentine’s Day” and “Silver Linings Playbook,” “Corpse Bride” and “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events,” plus some ’90s favorites like “Space Jam” and “GoodFellas.”
The bad news is that throughout the month we’re losing “Black Panther,” “Eat Pray Love,” “The Waterboy,” “P.S. I Love You,” “Batman Begins,” both “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” and “The Two Towers,” and “Kill Bill” Volumes 1 and 2.

There was a lot of eye candy in the incredibly attractive cast of 2019's fun rom-com Summer Night, but there's no denying that Victoria Justice is a total scene-stealer. The 26-year-old actress, singer, fashionista, and social media guru is stunning as heck, and we can't decide if we want to be her best friend or date her. It's been nearly 15 years since Victoria came into our lives as Lola Martinez on Nickelodeon's Zoey 101, and she only manages to get more beautiful by the moment. We've rounded up the starlet's sexiest pics of all time, and they'll seriously make your jaw drop.

In the still American-led realm of the Academy Awards, it’s unusual for the helmer of a film not in the English language to score a Best Director nomination. It’s far rarer still, meanwhile, for a woman to be nominated in the category at all: just five have done so in 91 years. Only one director, however, has broken both those barriers: in 1977, Italy’s Lina Wertmuller made history as Oscar’s first distaff Best Director nominee, for her darkly comic, baroquely nightmarish Holocaust survival odyssey “Seven Beauties.”
She lost, of course, though the nomination was really the remarkable feat: not just because it came at the expense of Hollywood names like Martin Scorsese and Hal Ashby, but because “Seven Beauties” was — and remains — such an abrasive, discomfiting vision, a million miles removed from the epic, ennobling Second World War stories that pundits like to think of as awards bait.

Everyone remembers hanging out during the summer. No matter what part of your youth it was during, being with your friends, feeling out the first pangs of love and sex with significant others, the whole shebang is steeped in positive nostalgia. Actor turned director Joseph Cross taps into that for his directorial debut Summer Night, a hangout movie from the word go. Cross crafts a film that feels lived in, as if these characters were already your friends. Balancing a number of plot lines with relative ease, he gives all the indications that he’s got a bright future behind the camera. The movie is a coming of age tale, taking place over, you guessed it, one summer night. A whole bunch of young folks are dealing with various romantic entanglements, while most are getting ready to attend a concert at the Alamo that evening. Jameson (Ellar Coltrane) and Seth...

The onscreen love drought is over — at least, that’s what the recent return of the romantic comedy seems to have signaled. After falling out of Hollywood’s favor over the past decade, the classic genre has started enjoying a new resurgence, bolstered by Netflix’s ability to churn out a slew of charming (and social media-friendly) genre entries and a studio landscape finally willing to bet on projects like “Crazy Rich Asians” and “Love, Simon.”
While Netflix generally doesn’t release its viewership numbers, a third quarter report from the streaming giant revealed last year that over 80 million customers watched its original rom-coms over the summer. There’s a long history of coming-of-age films featuring disparate stories and ensemble casts, creating a microcosm of the world during that time. Perhaps the most successful film in this subgenre is Richard Linklater’s “Dazed and Confused.” But there are other examples like “Empire Records” and “Can’t Hardly Wait.” Now, “Summer Night” aims to sit beside those films, except with a focus on a new generation.

L.A’s forthcoming experiential film festival, Rom Com Fest, just announced its 2019 lineup, which includes iconic rom-com favorites such as “Never Been Kissed” and “10 Things I Hate About You.” The event, which will take place at the the Downtown Independent Theater from June 20-23, aims to shine a spotlight on the romantic comedy genre and will feature screenings, fireside chats with the films’ stars, and writer Q&As.
Founded by entrepreneur Miraya Berke, the three-day event will mark a divergence from traditional film festivals — rose and dessert pairings will be served with certain films and attendees are encouraged to show up in themed outfits.
“We all need something uplifting to escape to,” Berke said. “Routinely dismissed by film critics as a lesser genre artistically, romantic comedies are universally beloved and are a true art form, being some of the...

The team behind “Noche de Amor” (Night of Love), one of two Argentine comedies featuring in this year’s Canneseries Short Form Competition, has given Variety exclusive early access to the first trailer for the series.
The series follows Vicky, a left-leaning rebellious young woman, and her mother Nora, a conservative mother-hen, who don’t always see eye to eye under the best of circumstances. Nora is thrilled when she learns her youngest daughter is about to be married to Mike, a laid-back Canadian whose Spanish is at best so-so. Each of the series’ seven episodes highlights one keystone day in the lead-up to the wedding, and the back and forth between mother and daughter.
“Noche de Amor” leans heavily on a strong script and the comedic timing of a number of Argentine film and TV stars to deliver a viewing experience easily on-par with other productions with far greater resources.

Mark Millar comic book series Jupiter’s Legacy is heading to Netflix to be adapted as a live-action TV series.
Jupiter’s Legacy is starting to take shape over at Netflix, which has just announced the crew and main cast of the TV series adapting Mark Millar’s comic book series, which put an alternate-universe twist superhero tropes.
When Netflix acquired the Millarworld publishing brand back in July 2018 from its eponymous prolific Scottish comic book writer, we knew that the streaming giant had grand designs to create its own self-contained branding of comic book movies and televisions shows.
Indeed, Jupiter’s Legacy was one of the announced projects. Now, Netflix is moving forward with the series, which it has put under the purview of a serious showrunner in Steven S. DeKnight, who will serve as executive producer with Millar and the comic’s artist, Frank Quitely, along...

The 1968 film “Spring Night, Summer Night” finally received its much-deserved New York Film Festival premiere last week, 50 years after it was “unceremoniously bumped” — per Nyff’s festival catalogue — to make space for John Cassavetes’s “Faces.” It’s a film of astounding beauty – bringing to life rural life in a way rarely seen on the big screen – but it was never properly exhibited, and faded from existence shortly after it was made.
Long before its restoration, the film was re-cut and re-shot to look like an exploitation picture, with the new title “Miss Jessica is Pregnant.” It was only saved from oblivion decades later, through extensive efforts by the filmmakers’ former students, director Nicolas Winding Refn, and a former Albuquerque theater owner by the name of Peter Conheim, who made it his mission to restore the film after seeing a version of it in 2004.

Above: French grande for Capricious Summer. Artist: F. Dervanore. As the 56th New York Film Festival winds down this weekend, I wanted to look back half a century to the 6th edition of the festival. Uppermost in everyone’s minds in September 1968 was Czechoslovakia, which, after a brief seven months of liberation known as the Prague Spring, had been invaded less than a month before the festival began, by Warsaw Pact tanks and troops intended to suppress reforms. Whether it had been planned before the Soviet invasion, the 6th New York Film Festival notably opened and closed with Czech films: Jiri Menzel’s Capricious Summer and Milos Forman’s The Firemen’s Ball. It also featured Jan Nemec’s previously banned 1966 film A Report on the Party and the Guests which had been released in ’68 under the reformist president Alexander Dubček and shown as a special event on Czech national...

Joseph L. Anderson's Spring Night, Summer Night (1967) is showing September 1 – October 1, 2018 on Mubi as part of the series byNWR.Treated like a lost link in American Cinema and being placed by scholars somewhere between John Cassavetes and the L.A. Rebellion movement, Joseph L. Anderson’s Spring Night, Summer Night is foremost a problematic approach to a rural community. The film is set in south-eastern Ohio and follows the story of a young conflicted love. The cast in large parts consists of locals and amateurs. Carl, son of a local farmer, in a sudden outburst of emotion impregnates Jessica, a passive woman who wants to keep the child. What is more, they could be brother and sister. Anderson, who collaborated with Donald Richie on The Japanese Film: Art and Industry, spent about two years researching the coal-mining area in Ohio to prepare his first feature film in what he called “New Appalachian Cinema.
