I Wish I Was Dead...But In a Good Way
gensbill12 February 2021
Katherine Hughes and Medalion Rahimi (from Before I Fall, and who plays an agent on NCIS Los Angeles) are both beautiful and funny. As is Ryan Lee.

I think the scripts are good and the premise is unique, and everyone's timing is on point.

The show had me laughing out loud even though I'm not really their demographic. Some might think it a silly high school comedy, which it is, but I enjoyed it a lot.

Plus, although he is used sparingly, it has the talented Rickey Eugene Brown who I saw displaying his acting skills in Your Honor the day before, but here does comedy as Mason the jock.

I watched all 8 episodes over 2 days, and like most of the binge-able 22-minute comedy shows I try to watch, I did not regret doing so.

I still have 2 episodes of Cobra Kai I can't ever seem to find the time for.

I really wish they went in a different direction for the ending!
christiewolters22 July 2022
So guy has an obsessive crush on a girl. He seems a little neuroatypical so we can be nice, but he genuinely thinks being persistent is the way to get the girl and asks her out a 56th time getting a 'no' every time. She agrees to a single date hoping he'll be able to let it go once he sees they won't work, and he actually gets mad at her on the date for not liking and appreciating everything he does for her (good guy vibes right here), then dies trying to take an instragram photo to impress her in the most cringy way possible.

Girl has a guy she genuinely likes who likes her back, but the guy and obsessive boy are friends and he's too shy to make a move until his friend dies. They finally make a connection at his funeral.

Low and behold stalker boy raises from the dead and now must stay within 30 ft of girl because of a cursed necklace he gave her when they dated in 4th grade. Cue the comedy!

Except... Not. Okay, I really liked the setup and the characters. The thing I was waiting for was for zombie boy to finally understand that he never saw girl for who she was because he only saw his own fantasies. That he was never respectful of her and to truly let it sink in that he was told no 55 times. That they really had no future and trying to force her to be with him was unfair to her. Then deciding to do the best thing possible and give his closest and shy friend his blessing to date girl, and passing on with a bittersweet ending.

They didn't do any of that. This is like a love story for incels.

Surprisengly witty and energetic
burgerman9321 February 2021
This show actually has a lot of heart and charm. The cast is small enough and the episodes are short enough to make it easy to track. Also the characters were likable and the dialogue is pretty smart. While there's a lot of cliche elements, the show sort of presents it in a satirical manner, which makes it work. I will admit there were some transitions that seemed a bit abrupt and some of the scenes are predictable, but overall it was enjoyable. I watched it all in one sitting and found myself chuckling every so often.

The first episode reels you in like few others ever have. The clever story with likable characters combined with engaging cast and only eight episodes ensure your ability to quickly digest what's going on and move on to see what's happening next. Highly recommended for all ages!

Surprisingly Amusing

Warning: Spoilers
I'm too old to identify with teenagers by in large, and certainly not High School. However, oddly enough, I had a good friend die in a fall at 14 so there was some twisted interest in the premise for me. No, he didn't come back from the dead, it's been nearly 57 years. This rather light comedy of a dead teenager made my imagination wonder, how would it feel to not be able to actually get away from a person who's wake you had attended. Of course you have to suspend reality but it tends to crop up and I want to make comments. #1 Eating. This implies digestion. That makes no sense, they should have left that out. #2 Suspended decomposition. That has to be part of the magic otherwise ew. #3 Aging. Will a dead person age in this magic formula. The big problem for me is, I would have gotten a pair of wire cutters and cut that necklace off, assuming the magic could be broken that way.

I watched it all in one sitting!
acatacow-295936 February 2021
I'll start off by saying the plot isn't anything revolutionary. But it was totally not what I was expecting, I was expecting a very cliché cheesy teen romance. And any cliché part was done in a way that it felt (for a lack of better words) not(...?) cliché. But the plot reeled me in and I couldn't stop! I think the acting was good, and I never hated the characters, like I normally do. The ending was very fulfilling, and all the plot lines got tied up, but sadly I don't think they are going to make a season 2. Normally this isn't my type of show, but I really really enjoyed My Dead Ex.

It's 2022 right ?
brewi-3752623 December 2022
Ok first the good things about the show " My Dead Ex " The cast is likeable and the story keeps moving along nicely. But I couldn't get past the part that the young guy asked the woman out 55 times. It called harassment. It not funny or cute . As a teenager growing up i didn't see the harm of asking a girl out multiple times but as an adult I now realized that it was wrong . Ask a person out once if the person says "no" leave them alone . Current movies should not push the idea that chasing after someone is fun or charming or romantic. I know I sound like a wet blanket but please treat people with respect .

Enjoyed it! Wish it had more episodes.

Had some funny moments & not a series to be took seriously.

After reading some reviews, would of thought she(lead)was victimized: Stop making everything a political statement if you don't like something in a movie/show,such as it sends a wrong message about not understanding the word"no"by a female.

Cast,acting & cinematography was decent,worth checking out!

Ryan Lee is a star
hometowncpas_liz3 April 2021
I need a little forgiveness when I admit that started to get a little crush on Ryan Lee (Ben). He is absolutely adorable and steals the show every time he is on screen. Unfortunately I docked a star for Katherine Hughes (Charley), her character falls flat and without Ryan Lee and Madalion Rahimi (Wren) to hold her up she would ruin the show. If you haven't fallen in love with Ben yet you will during his dance scene in Episode Six. What a cutie.

It's soo cute ...honestly a feel good show... even my boyfriend enjoyed it. But really if you like cute love stories and watch extra ridiculous rom-coms this is for you. I've watched it twice now.

Problematic as all hell
thechickapedia28 October 2020
So a "will they or won't they" romantic comedy?! Really?

Guy asks girl out 56 times because he's desperately in love with her but she is not interested. She says yes just to stop him from keeping it up. After a disaster date, he dies. He dies while taking a selfie atop a billboard that he just tagged PROCLAIMING HIS LOVE FOR THIS UNINTERESTED GIRL. Then he comes back from the dead because of two cursed necklaces he got them when she and he were kind of sort of elementary school dating back when.

Why doesn't anyone see the issue here? Why is this labelled as a cutesy romantic comedy?! The boy should have stopped asking her out waaaay sooner because NO MEANS NO. It literally would have saved his life.

I very seldom give anything a 10, but hot damn this was a good show! So bloody funny. Sure it's problematic, since it's basically Stockholm Syndrome but I couldn't help but to love it anyway!

I want more!!!!!
comicmakers8 July 2022
You know a show is good when it leaves you wanting more. I loved this limited series! The comedy was sarcastic and broke a lot of cliches but yet plays them up in an incredibly dedicated way. The characters were flawed, the main characters were actually off putting but start to grow on you. I hope to see more of the actors in the future because they were excellent

I really wish it could have had a longer ending or explored some more aspects of the story. But a huge thumbs up from me.

Wish We Got More
thecouchwarmer26 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The first season is so good and the finale was so sweet. I really wish there was more to it or at least a second season to show where they are now.

Yes, we got the to see the two finally get together and it felt amazing but I can't help but feel like there could be so much more, like how they deal with aging or Charlotte finally embracing her artistic self. It would also be interesting to figure out how many more people are like Ben.

It may seem like the story is over but it could have been a lot better with at least a second season.

Basically a show that says "No doesn't mean no."
xoxomarie-0883731 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Guy persists asking out a girl that doesn't like him. Asked her out 57 times, until she's pressured into saying yes to get him to leave her alone.

Sounds like a romance to me. He dies, then continues to bother her from the grave and then is stuck to her (30 ft away) until they figure out how to get rid of him. Wow. Great message to send to young women. "You better say yes to that guy you don't like otherwise he'll haunt you forever.

What a great love story. I hope this show is canceled.

Sounds like a spin-off the movie My Boyfriend's Back
bethanivogt18 February 2021
For all my other millennials and older out there, are you wondering why this plot might sound familiar? Feel like you might've seen something like this before? Yup. You guessed it. This sounds like the movie from 1993 called My Boyfriend's Back. What happens? Oh just a guy who dies and is obsessed with winning over the heart of miss popular. And I haven't come across any reference to the movie and everyone's over here gushing about how original and unique this series is. *eye roll*.

orcinussr29 December 2019
I came on here to find the name of the writer / creator so I can tweet him and tell him how ashamed he should be (if u wonder why a 3 and not 1, I could explain but I'm too dumbfounded by the show, I simply can't)
