The Secret Life of Kyle: Sweet little short
Platypuschow24 June 2018
This sweet little tale from the Despicable Me universe tells the story of Gru's dog Kyle and the antics it gets up to while the family are away.

Standing at only around 4 minutes it was understandably limited but manages to tell a competent story anyway.

It looks great, it sounds fantastic (Even having a licensed soundtrack) and is a welcome addition to the very hit and miss world of minion shorts.

Definetly one of the better ones.

The Good:

Very well made

Have a spotlight to a character who hasn't had one before

The Bad:

Nothing really

Things I Learnt From This Short:

Kyle needs more screentime in Despicable Me 4 or Minions 2, maybe an origin story?

Minions only need seconds to steal a spotlight

inessential fun

The girls leave for the day. Their dog Kyle has his misadventures. Kyle is a minor character of the franchise. Quite frankly, he is a no-name object in the background. The misadventure is nothing that special. It's fine but inessential and the Minions are only minor characters in this.

Short and Adorable

I dont own dogs but a big dog person but not kyle though. He just looks weird to me (never like it from the movies to be honest). But it is not bad to give it the spotlight as well. Great animation by the illumination as always, great sound effects and very direct plot (less than 5 minutes run time). Good voice castings, good that they include 2 minions although theyre not the main focus. Its funny and highly entertaining. Good for children and i bet even the adults would enjoy this short period of adoreness. Great intro/illumination's tittle scene (more minions...yay). Enjoy the human interactions as well. Recommended.

A forgettable short
Gordon-1122 November 2017
This short tells the story of Kyle the dog, who wants to impress the neighbour poodle by giving her a pink diamond collar. However, he meets an adversary and things get complicated.

"The Secret Life of Kyle" really is not that interesting, because I never even paid attention to the existence of this Kyle character in the Despicable Me films, which I have all watched. The story is thin, and not very entertaining either. The scene where the minions get sun-burnt may cause a giggle, but it is rather short lived. There is no heartwarming element in it either. I find it rather forgettable.

So-so

Warning: Spoilers
Mini movies (usually starring the Minions) are a bit of a tradition for the DM franchise and here we have one of the most recent of these small ones that bears a striking similarity name-wise to "The Secret Life of Pets". "The Secret Life of Kyle" is an American 4-minute animated short film that is a little spin-off for the blockbuster "Despicable Me 3". This one's about Kyle, the dog that looks like it may have gotten a bit too close to electricity to be honest. And he is in love with a poodle lady, but has a resilient competitor in an Alsatian, the main antagonist in here, who keeps stealing kyle's presents for the poodle. But of course, there is a happy ending. I felt taht this film was a touch too far away from Despicable Me 3 and the entire universe of this franchise that I admittedly quite enjoy with the exception of the MMinions movie perhaps. Kyle is okay, but not really lead character material perhaps. The sun-burnt Minions scene was the best we had in here, everything else was incredibly mediocre and this is even more disappointing looking at how many writers and directors worked on this one. So I give it a thumbs-down and as I myself liked DM 3, I would not even recommend this short we got here to my fellow fans of the one I just mentioned. Visually, it is decent, story-wise it could have been better. Not as much fun or emotion as I hoped, even if I was glad they did not fo full romance at the very end as this would have felt highly unrealistic. All in all, this wasn't a failury by any means, but it also wasn't a good watch. i give it a thumbs-down I guess and suggest you watch something else instead.

Kyle looks and acts Exactly like my dog! ;D

I may be bias, but I LOVE Kyle because he looks and acts exactly like my cairn terror (not a typo) named Toto. I rescued him as a lost dog at 2am in my front yard as Tornado Siren's were going off. Hence my naming him Toto and back then I lived in Kansas. Ha hahahhaha He's a sweetie and also a complete TERROR. This little short is so adorable and reminds me of how Toto had a massive crush on my friends female husky Athena and how her male husky partner Sterling was not pleased at all by the attention she showered on Toto every time she saw him. ;D Too Cuteness!!
