Not as good as Baby Cobra
jreucassel13 September 2018
I enjoyed this special but it is not as good as Baby Cobra. The material is predictably about being a new mother. I laughed a couple of times but also cringed a few, especially when she shows her underwear. Her close to the bone material was much better in her 1st special and more awkward this time. She is very talented and I look forward to more specials.

Some Good Laughs
Kaptain_Bluddflagg17 May 2018
Ali Wong is definitely talented, but her routine needs a bit of fine tuning. While some of her jokes are pretty good, most are just meh and her delivery needs work. She relies too heavily on changing her voice as part of the punchline, and it's more grating than humorous with repeat viewing, especially since she does it with almost every joke.

That being said, I would definitely recommend this special, and I hope to see more from her in the future.

Talented and funny!
oasisdream-alt1 June 2018
She's a cranky, assertive, shameless, Asian American and she's incredibly funny! Ali has made an art of timing and tone and there is a certain brevity in her wit which nails her humour. Yes, my jaw dropped at some of her content ("I can't believe she just said that") but there were plenty of other moments where I was laughing out loud; something that's hard to find in stand-up or any other comedy. Surrender yourself to it all and enjoy the ride!

One can be funny while pregnant, as Ali can attest to...
bettycjung26 May 2018
5/24/18. No-holds-barred Ali Wong is back again. Didn't realize she is in her second pregnancy, at about the same time as the first pregnancy when she did Baby Cobra. I just thought she did 2 stand-ups back to back during the same pregnancy. Anyway, if you liked her first stand-up, you will probably enjoy this one. Ali takes on everything with no shame, which is actually quite refreshing.

Pregnant and funny, yet again...
paul_haakonsen9 June 2018
This follow-up show to "Baby Cobra" was every bit as funny and well-delivered like her previous show.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first show and when I happened to come across this 2018 show on Netflix I was instantly hooked. So of course I had to sit down and watch it.

Ali's comedy is sharp, spot on and straight to the point.

I love how she manages to carry herself on the stage while being pregnant and spewing hilarious jokes. Her straightforwardness is still present in this stand-up comedy special and that is definitely one of her strong sides.

If you enjoyed the "Baby Cobra" show, then you should definitely also sit down to watch this one.

Laughed until I cried

I'm a white woman with no kids but I still found this relatable and hilarious. I love her delivery, she kind of has a Lewis Black thing going on with all the yelling.

She is unapologetically blunt, relatable, and real af. I loved Baby Cobra and I love this one.

Good, but not upto her potential
sanyambahga4 August 2020
While Baby Cobra was much more fun and exhilarating, Hard Knock Wife lacks some of the thrill of its predecessor. Probably it has to do with the fact that Wong wasn't as famous and rich at the time of Baby Cobra and had thus put greater effort into it. Now that she's a celebrity comic the audiences just love her for being herself, the humour and thrill in her standup special has waned somewhat. Most of the content in Hard Knock Wife is centered around child birth and motherhood which at times gets tiresome. The erotic filthiness of her earlier special has been replaced by some cringeworthy content. It is still watchable and I am confident she'll comeback with much sharper and funnier content in times to come.

I'm a big fan now!

I know men may or may not relate unless they are one of the white ones dating or married to an Asian women. As a woman, I thought it was funny and smart. Not a mother but can still relate as many of my friends have kids. Ali is a super talented writer, her insights on the Asian American culture, motherhood and being a partner are funny and reflects what people go through. Good for you , can't wait to see more. This was my first time seeing any of her stuff, now i'm going through the archives.

Non stop laughs

She's back! I was really hoping she would come back again, never expected her to be pregnant again on another special. She's got the pregnant lady wobble-walk down.

If I had to compare to another comic I'd say she's a lot like an Asian female version of Kevin Hart, just seems naturally funny and energetic, at least on stage, and makes jokes about her life.

I loved her first netflix special 'Baby Cobra', and this one is the same Ali Wong style but with her life inspirations in early motherhood/family life since then.

Here's hoping that when her kids can walk or speak she'll have a bunch of new experiences for another special :-)

Funny as hell
peisli3 June 2018
I laughed my ass off. I watched this show with my husband on Netflix and we laughed till the very end. Some of the stand ups on Netflix we usually watch first 20 minutes and if it's not funny we just switch to the other comic or a movie but Ali Wong got our attention from the first minute to the end. Great show, very funny.

Great stand-up, I can't get enough of it.

I didn't watch her first show Baby Cobra yet but after watching Hard Knock Wife I will definitely watch every show of Ali Wong. I never heard of her, never saw her before, but now I surely won't forget about her. Ali Wong is marriage material, the kind of woman you want beside you for the rest of your life, she's goodlooking, funny, and seems like up for an adventure between the sheets. What else could you ask for? That said her show is just hilarious at times, her monologue about her pregnancy was very funny, and even though it seemed long on the same subject it still remained very entertaining, and that's because she has a perfect way to bring her comedy. Her jokes are well thought of, a bit dirty but who doesn't like that? Ali Wong? She has a new fan from now on.

In 2022, loving Ali. This special is hysterical ~ so is her 2016 one and the 2022 one too. She's raunchy, raw, cringe and awesome. I had heard of her from Fresh Off the Boat, which I didn't like, then Always be My Maybe, also didn't like. But her standup in LIT 🔥

"A" for 2!
mlhighsmith7219 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The always unapologetic and nasty first time mom gets real on a bunch of topics and then keeps it real. She must have known how big of a hit her first special was (of course, she did). On this 2nd special she does the exact same thing and does it bigger, better (could she really outdo her 1st) and stronger!

She is my 6 Million Dollar Comedian. She rebuilt herself with more debauchery....more nasty...more a fouled mouth and more P-jokes. My goodness gracious sakes alive! I'm a Black guy and she has this joke about Black Guys that made me almost spit my juice out.

She is funny....funny.. funny. Her audiences love her and even when they get squeamish, she queafs and quaffs a good raunch and they laugh. There, Problem solved!

I'm glad she's around and hopes she continues doing comedy for a long time. I really have been looking for the re-incarnation of George Carlin. I think I find it and I'm gonna ride it until the wheels fall off. Ali, you went "A' for 2.

Let's get a three-peat!

Disgustingly unfunny and Normalizes toxic relationships
klutchjennings14 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is the absolute worst thing I've ever laid my eyes on and I've seen Pink Flamingos. Ali Wong is so painfully unfunny that it hurts to sit through this standup special and honestly anything that she is in. There's this bit where she states that marriage are automatically weakened by having kids. Now I know for a fact that what she says is simply not true. She may have experienced strife in her marriage but to openly admit that she's okay with cheating on her husband after having a baby and saying that it's okay for people to do that, it's so depraved and morally evil. How dare she say that about her husband and her family. If I were married to her I'd honestly feel betrayed. Especially as a new father. It would make me feel worthless in the relationship but that's what Ali Wong is about. She's okay with cucking her husband because according to her "the marriage is weak anyway. So why not." She makes this claim like it's some fact of life when it really isn't. If the marriage is strong, it can handle the stresses of children. Clearly her marriage is a sham.

Ali Wong is a disgrace to comedians everywhere. How she even got her own special is nothing short of miracle.

Please do not watch this and attempt to make a meaningful philosophical connection between it and life. This has no value to anyone anywhere.

I wish I could give this negative stars. Ali Wong, I hope you read this. I hope you understand how much you suck.

Second special, even worse
acul7852124 March 2021
I've watched her two Netflix specials in a row. I haven't liked the first one, I liked even less this one. More scurrilous, more rude jokes. I really don't get it. It's really worse than the first one. And a segment all about body-shaming, in 2018, it's really unacceptable. Despicable.

Don't even waste your time. Most boring, awful, predictable "comedy" ever. An hour of talking about being pregnant. Yeah, it's just bad.

Not funny

I'm sorry I really wanted to like her act but it's just not funny. It was just blah. I don't get all the acclaim because it's misleading and why I bothered in the first place.

Boring, unfunny, American comedy.

She's terrible and doesn't deserve to make money from her "jokes". It's very over the top and boring if I'm honest.
