While recaps are just boring necessities in most mediums, anime studios have turned them into a mini-industry. There are some franchises that wouldn't even exist today without compilation films. Famously, Mobile Suit Gundam didn't really take off until its trilogy of compilation films began hitting theaters in 1981.
Unlike recaps in Western television, anime compilation films are big events. Since they tend to air in theaters, it means getting a bigger budget to try and present the best version of a series to new audiences. For fans who are willing to give them a try, they can be far better than just watching the original television series.

A Terrifier 3 cameo contains the deepest of deep cut references involving a cult horror franchise. The Terrifier movies play like gorier, nastier versions of 1980s horror sagas like Friday The 13th, with their selling being that they push the envelope way further than ever before. This has given the series a distinct identity, and Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) is now a horror icon on par with Michael Myers or Freddy Krueger. While the third film isn't overloaded with horror easter eggs, the ones it features are easy to spot.
The already infamous shower scene is a nod toward both Psycho and Scarface and displays the bloody carnage the latter only hinted at. The most obvious reference comes in Terrifier 3's controversial opening scene, where Art uses an ax to cut into a door and then sticks his head through the hole like Jack Nicholson in The Shining.

A clown, a drunk, and Santa Claus walk into a bar.
Sounds like the setup for an off-color joke, but that’s the scene I witnessed upon visiting the set of Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3 earlier this year. As you might expect, the punchline is a bloody one.
“I’ve been really looking forward to this scene,” Art the Clown actor David Howard Thornton tells me. “It’s like the costume shop scene [in Terrifier 2] or the pizzeria scene [in Terrifier]. It’s such a fun scene, and then it gets serious. I think it has one of the more creative kills in the movie.”
Thornton shares the scene with Daniel Roebuck as jolly old Saint Nicholas and Clint Howard as a barfly named Smokey.

Code Geass is an anime franchise heavy with complex characters and intricately written world-lore that is seen throughout its multiple series, especially in Lelouch of the Rebellionthe storyline of which the recently finished Roz of the Recapture builds off of. With all of its episodes available on Hulu and Disney+, the series is now free for any anime fan to binge-watch.
However, there are a number of things to note in order to jump into Roz of the Recaptures story with a good understanding of what's going on. There are many things about the franchise's unique world building and overarching storyline that can confuse even long-time Code Geass fans, as the original 2006 anime completed over a decade ago and certain details within the more recent Lelouch of the Re;surrection movies conflict with it.

Regardless of any perceived quality when it comes to individual entries, you have to hand it to the Silent Night, Deadly Night franchise. It kicked off with a demented killer Santa story that created immense controversy, cementing it as a piece of hallowed horror history. Since then, it has produced a series of movies that each stand out for any number of memorable reasons (my personal favorite). You can certainly argue the successful and not-so-successful elements of a Silent Night, Deadly Night entry, but it’s tough to say any one of them is “normal.” They all offer such unique quirks and oddities that it’s hard not to find them attractive from the right angles.
And Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation is the weirdest one of the bunch and so much better for it.
As a franchise entry, we do need to establish some important context. Long story short,...

Matthew McConaughey has some interesting advice for couples.
The actor — who has been promoting his new children’s book Just Because — chatted to Et Canada’s Cheryl Hickey about being married to Camila Alves for over 10 years now. The pair tied the knot in 2012.
As Hickey commented on being married for 15 years herself, McConaughey responded: “Well 15, you’re in. I mean, you know, you kinda know who the other is. I think the challenge as we go on in relationships is realizing and accepting that individually, we still change.”
“We’re not the same people 10 years later, 15 years later. We have different interests, we’re growing.”
“We’re essentially who we are, but individually certain things become… personally, our priority list changes, our value list changes. We want to try new things. Or maybe we want to do something we used to do twice as much. And sometimes you’re like,...

While the 1970s and 1980s were strong decades for independent horror filmmaking, the 1990s proved to be a somewhat interesting time, as there seemed to be an overall tendency for this realm of the industry to be focused on making sequels and creating franchises out of ’80s horror hits, with a few landmark indie horror projects in the mix as well. And since sequels were so dominant at that time, I thought it only made sense for us to start there for this look back on the history of ’90s indie horror cinema.
After the 1980s proved to be a great time for indie horror, where so many movies ended up being successful due to a combination of theatrical releases and the increasing popularity of home video, it feels like in the decade that followed, many producers working in the independent realm wanted to capitalize on those successes by turning...

Ralph Schuckett, a keyboard player best known as a member of Todd Rundgren’s Utopia as well as an in-demand session player and producer and, later, composer for “Pokemon” and other animation projects, died Sunday at 73.
No cause of death was immediately given, although he was known to have been ill. When a Utopia reunion tour was announced in early 2018, Schuckett was announced as part of the lineup and even met with other members for a publicity photo, but he was forced to withdraw shortly before rehearsals began.
Among his early studio credits prior to joining Utopia were Carole King’s first three albums, including the landmark “Tapestry.”
“Ralph Schuckett was a sweet guy, a great friend, and a very talented cat,” King said in a statement Wednesday morning. “That’s his sparkling piano on ‘Smackwater Jack.’ Rest In Peace and love.”

Exclusive: One Day at a Time star Isabella Gomez is set as the lead of HBO Max’s multi-camera comedy pilot Head of the Class, a reboot of the popular 1980s ABC sitcom. Gomez’s casting reveals a gender swap in the follow-up as the lead in the original series was played by Howard Hesseman.
HBO Max in May ordered a pilot and five additional scripts for Head of the Class, which hails from American Vandal writers Amy Pocha and Seth Cohen, Bill Lawrence and his Doozer Productions; and Warner Bros. Television, which produced the original series.
Written by Pocha and Cohen, based on the original series created by Rich Eustis and Michael Elias, the reimagined Head of the Class revolves around a group of overachieving high school students who meet their greatest challenge — a first-time teacher, Alicia Adams (Gomez), who wants them to focus less on grades and more on experiencing life.
