The choking on the rock was hysterical
shaneandamy-1962930 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Ok. Let's be real. There are way worse horror movies than this. If you have amazon prime believe me there are tons worse than this. This movie was bad and stupid though. I admit. But, I burst out laughing when the girl that decided to be a human ouija board started to choke on the rock. You can't weeze if your truly choking to death and watching them lay her down to do cpr with the rock still lodged. I'm sorry it was just too funny. Two stars for comedy

Ouija House: The absolute pits
Platypuschow27 November 2018
2018 really has turned out to be one of the worst years in cinema history, at time of writing I believe it's about the 5th worst on my accounts analytics. Movies like Ouija House certainly aren't helping to rectify this.

Now when the opening credits kicked in I actually managed a little bit of a hope. Among the credits were horror veterans Dee Wallace and Tiffany Shepis alongside Tara "Oh Dear" Reid, Mischa Barton and Chris Mulkey. Little did I realise however that they range from small roles to mere cameo appearances so don't go in for the cast!

It's yet another ouija film but with a twist, and the twist is terrible. Not only does it bring nothing to the sub-genre but it made this movie barely followable and entirely unlikeable.

With the confusing poorly constructed plot, the questionable cast advertised and a front cover that displays a house that isn't even in the movie it's clear that little thought or effort went into Ouija House.

It was truly a chore to watch.

The Good:

It's nice seeing Mischa Barton looking healthy for a change

The Bad:

Another random clipart house on the cover

Tiffany Shepis is wasted

Some parts of the story are alarmingly stupid

Things I Learnt From This Movie:

General rule of thumb, if a movie has Ouija in it's title.....skip it

Tara Reid's career is in such a consistent spiral I'm just waiting for her to be in a new Baby Geniuses movie

OUCH!
mjsreg10 September 2018
Something went seriously wrong in the production of this movie.

Right from the start it is bad - really bad. Just a one dimensional screen of one dimensional characters held together with a one dimensional very weak one dimensional storyline.

It is a shame, because there is some talent among the actors that is seriously lost on this heap of rubbish.

There is no atmosphere, or any attempt to create one.

Don't waste your time and cash on this.

As bad as it can get
milesd-9052929 August 2018
Worst horror I've seen and I've seen some really bad ones, terrible storyline, terrible script, terrible acting, I laughed most of the time at the ridiculousness of this movie. I fell asleep after ten minutes to wake up to the most unconvincing demonic scream I've ever heard, it was laughable. The whole movie from start to finish was awful and the ending is so ridiculous I couldn't stop laughing. I know it was made on a budget of about ten dollars, but it never fails to amaze me that a director, producer or even the actors would say "Yeah that works. " be ashamed of yourselves, be very ashamed and find new jobs that has nothing to do with making movies because you're talentless. Rant over.

Ok ok ok.... Enough is enough with the Ouija movies. This one takes the cake for being really freaking stupid. Scares where crap, Acting was crap, & the girl as a Planchette her having to do the motions she had to with the annoying screaming was rather unappealing. Looked WAAAAY too low budget & I wouldn't recommend it at all.

Total waste of time and money
herbertandal10 September 2018
Story was stupid, acting was stupid, probably they knew how to act but was forced to do a stupid movie. Probably if it was a horror comedy it would be better. Effects? It like watching a porn movie with just plain and simple camera shots. Not scary at all

Not with a demon watching us.
nogodnomasters4 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
In 1988 some young adults which include cameos by Tara Reid and Tiffany Shepis play Ouija in a witch house. Not good results. Years later Dee Wallace is getting evicted from her home, most likely a statement on her Asylum film wages. Her daughter Laurie (Carly Schroeder) plans on holding a seance in the said home with three friends and her aunt Mischa Barton. Results not so good.

Film was okay. The reunion of "B" horror stars was more of a cameo fest. Hey! How about Linnea? I liked Grace Demarco as a human Ouija Board and that other Ouija thing.

Guide: F-word. No sex. Nudity.

Less than terrifying game
TheLittleSongbird9 November 2018
'Ouija House' moderately drew me into seeing it, with a cool poster/cover, an intriguing if not particularly original premise and as someone with a general appreciation for horror. That it was low-budget, which from frequent personal experience is rarely a good sign due to that there are so many poor ones out there, made me though apprehensive as well as the low rating and poor reviews here.

Yet another film seen recently unfortunately, hence some reiteration because the exact same strengths and flaws those films have are present here, that to me was incredibly disappointing considering its potential which it doesn't do anywhere near enough with. 'Ouija House' is terrible, with a plethora of problems (huge ones too) and doesn't do enough with its potential, which was hardly small. There is really nothing to recommend other than the scenery not being as cheap as the rest of the film.

Unfortunately, it's shot and edited so poorly, looking like a school project shot on a shaky camera or a phone by an unsteady hand, and the drab and overly-dark colours. It was very clear that the film was made in a rush with no care or enthusiasm. In particular, the camera work was a nauseous assault on the eyes with its excessive amateurish-ness and the lighting is far too dark and a lot of the time inappropriately so.

Going on further to the negatives, the story does feel paper thin, disjointed and over-stretched and some of it feels vague, under-explained in the last third where the film especially became duller, more predictable, more senseless and less scary. Too many characters are too sketchy and with nowhere near enough to make one want to endear to them. Their annoying and illogical decision making and behaviours frustrates and are overdone.

Making the film feel bland and forgettable with not enough heart put into it. The effects are ropy at best, the sound quality is obvious and utilised cheaply (being too loud in the build ups and people's reactions) and it's best not mentioning the uniformly lumbering, awkward and histrionic acting that shows a huge indifference to the situation and what is going on.

Dialogue can be stilted and rambling, with lots of clichés, lots of unintentional humour that makes some of the film play like a really bad spoof and no depth whatsoever, while the pace goes to a standstill very quickly and drags on forever with very little going on worth caring about and useless padding, never recovering. Found too many the supposedly shocking moments not surprising or scary and the supposedly creepy atmosphere dreary, due to the excessive obviousness, a lot of dumb and vague moments and explanations and the lack of tension and suspense. Would not have minded the lack of originality (the film is extremely derivative and in a dumbed and watered down way) if the story and atmosphere were at least alright in execution, in reality they were both incredibly poorly done.

A lot of 'Ouija House' is often nonsensical and with a lot of confusing character motivations, while too many of the things to make you jump or shocked are far from creative or scary and are pretty tame. The film often fails to make sense, at worst it's incomprehensible.

There is not enough threat, and what there is of it tends to be used poorly, it is completely unimaginative and more odd than creepy, completely failing to show any sense of horror or creativity. Everything here is neither creative, suspenseful or nail-biting and much of it absurd. Some badly sagging momentum too. The direction is leaden, with an all over the place visual style, and like their heart was not in it or ill at ease, with the non-existent chemistry between the characters and actors coming over as constantly random. This is very dreary and amateurish stuff that fails to be scary, interesting or easy to follow.

Concluding, terrible. 1/10 Bethany Cox

One More Stinker For The Heap!
tesswysko13 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I, once again had high hopes because of the cast.. c'mon they got Dee Wallace! Also because it seemed like such a unique storyline, reminiscent of subspecies... But, sadly, this movie failed on EVERY count! The script was AWFUL, who'd invite the hoochie who's been sticking her tongue down your bf's throat to an overnight weekend getaway? And he likes it, because he's taking video of her bum! The house, or witches, or WHO KNOWS??? It's written so poorly you don't even know WHO the enemy IS! This"enemy" plays a game with you, assuming a sense ood honor, but it attacks the girls mom for NO REASON MANY MILES AWAY! This movie is SO BIZARRE, SO hard to follow, DON'T waste your time or money, it's a STINKER!!!

Nice to watch kind of entertaining
maxim-938866 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Not much of spoilers ... It's that scream they do when going to the next letter inside the house and the house of the mother after being bought back by her daughter (the possession of the pure evil warlock) that kind of in a way ruins the movie (for me) ... Yes the beginning was scary, and the stone going into the girls' throat, but that was about it ... Okay if you get scared real quick then you'll most probably be petrified, but if not, you'll end up laughing and just sit to see how it ends up just for the fun of it ... I did like it though taken it had that grip of keeping me looking and not walk away ... It is worth the watch, otherwise, I definitely would've walked away

Nooooooo
jfost7522 June 2020
As an avid horror fan, I recognize that the genre is full of sub par movies, and this is definitely one of them. The ONLY redeeming thing about this entire movie was that the topless evil witches had nice breasts, aside from that this movie was a total loss. Standard young people go to a haunted cabin to "research" spirits, throw in an oddball cousin (played by Micha Barton, who has NEVER been in anything good) and add your very played out horror stereotypes, slap a lame title on it and thats this movie. The acting was Bad, the story was worse. I cannot recommend enough that you avoid this movie.

"RAHHHHH!!!!"
moocowmoo-581-8918813 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Witchcraft mumbo-jumbo conflated with a ouija board moovie filled with plot holes and ridiculous plot cowtrivances spoils what might have been interesting little gem of a flick. A few decent performances are wasted because the story lacks any kind of cohesion, and nothing makes any kind of sense. Characters get possessed and yell "RAHHHHH!" and bang their heads against the wall because letters from the ouija board are underneath the wall paper, but if you cover them up again the demons go away, or something, i just have no idea. Poor Carly Schroeder plays some kind of graduate student (!) whose 'thesis' involving witchcraft has to do with her own family of 'good witches' who fight against an evil warlock named Roka who sacrifices babies and infects the trees, which get turned into evil houses, and who is trying to force open a doorway to some evil dimension is as laughable and ludicrous as it sounds. There are a few decent effects, a very nice setting, a few decent performances, but little else to recowmmend itself.

Terrible movie
sleemice26 August 2018
I wish there was a way I could give this movie a 0/10 rating. That's how bad it is. The story& script aren't the worst I've ever seen but combined with the terrible acting this is the worst ''horror'' movie of 2018 so far.

Terrible Props!
odstry10 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The stone they use is glued to their fingers, you can actually see its for a few seconds. Also they show the witches painting letters on the walls, but suddenly the letters are in a different font and looks printed not painted. They know exactly where to find each hidden letter without taking down any extra paint, which by the way, they remove the paint with their hands.

A horror movie for people who dispise horror movies.
frankaphone14 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The Plancette points to NO!

Ouija House! It's low budget, stilted and cheap. Made for under $1,000,000, it somehow manages to look on par with a cheap HD porno at times using lazy flat framing, no colour-grading or depth and a sincere lack of character development. There's 0 suspense, laughable teelgraphed "jumpscares", and it all comes actors as hilarious instead of horrifying. Despite B-List stars like Dee Wallace (who is utterly wasted in her 3 scenes), Tara Reid (wasted, in two ways) and Misha Barton who disappears for 35% of the film despite being a supporting lead. They all ham up their performances for a pay check. The only actor who I thought did a serviceable job was the Black Best Friend. The script actually had mythology with its backstory that ultimately became muddled and messy, just like Ouija House.

Decent supernatural thriller
kyleallencole924 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I thought this one was okay. I like most of the cast that was in it, so I watched it anyways. I dont believe I've seen another movie that uses a house as a ouija board and the spirit possesses someone so the others can use that person to spell out things from all of the letters 8nside the house.

Mild "spoiler" alert (for this rancid pile of spoiled rubbish)
monk-819075 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
If it's not wooden acting then it's hammy overacting, coupled with an atrocious script that revolves around some lame warlock from the past who was obsessed with word and number puzzles to facilitate some demon business... I will put up with a lot from low budget horror but when your movie is so lazy and your edits so hamfisted that you only manage to emphaise the stupidity of the story, I'm out.

Overall just decent supernatural effort
kannibalcorpsegrinder9 December 2018
Gathering her friends together, a group of friends arrives at a secluded family-owned house in the mountains to work on a research project only to realize they've inadvertently released a demonic entity from their family's past through a board game and must try to get out of the house alive.

For the most part, this was a pretty decent entry. One of the film's strongest points is the fact that there's quite a lot of fun to be had with the supernatural aspects of the storyline. This starts off at the very beginning where the supernatural attacks are thrust right in on the ambush of the group after playing with the Ouija board, and when combined with the reveal uring the matter about the site being used for occult witchcraft rituals adds a rather nice atmosphere to the start here. Likewise, the gatherings held between everyone where the backstory involving the different practices that the coven was committing on the townspeople in the past is revealed and a rather chilling if uneventful game with an Ouija board offers up the kind of atmosphere that gives this a decent start. As well, the second half of this one really enhances the fun here which really unleashes the supernatural action. Bringing aboard voices in the distance calling out to the group, getting one of the most chilling tactics ever devised in the inability to leave a location as every escape attempt brings them back to where they started regardless of the chosen route or a fine confrontation with a possessed doll that ties into the backstory of the house and the inhabitants offers up some rather creepy elements into play. Alongside the absolutely chilling finale where it brings aboard the titular concept using the possessed member of the group as a human planchette in order to play which results in some great action during the outcome of each interaction, this is a creepy and chilling concept that has plenty to like about it. As well as the fine blood and gore when it occurs, these are what hold it up over it's few minor flaws. The main issue to be had here with this one is the fact that there's just too much dragging in the film which makes it go on way too long for its own good. That comes about from scenes that either doesn't belong here, from the frequent calls to the mother trying to inform her of his failed attempts to get them to leave or the utterly useless scene of her dressing everybody down for stealing a prop Ouija board that no one was even near in order to remove it. Coupled that with an utterly unimpressive atmosphere from the rest of the cast to the atmosphere presented here due to the bland reactions they have to everything that takes place. As well, there's also the overriding feeling fo cheapness that permeates the entire film as everything just feels way too cheap and hokey to really matter much which both really hold this one down.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence, Language and Nudity.

swad277618 December 2020
Non existent plot, terrible dialogue, dumb characters, direction has no pace and fails to create tension or a sense of dread. Mischa Barton was obviously too expensive to have in most of the film.
