Cruz Abelita Signs With Cesd Agency (Exclusive)
Image
Cruz Abelita, best known for playing Justin across three seasons on Lionsgate TV’s Step Up: High Water, has signed with Cesd for representation.

The dance drama was a small screen reboot of the popular Lionsgate film franchise. The series also starred Ne-Yo, Faizon Love, Eric Graise, Terayle Hill, Enrique Murciano and Tricia Helfer. The Lionsgate TV production, after consulting with the family of the late Naya Rivera, cast Christina Milian to replace Rivera in the scripted series after the Glee star died in a tragic accident after going boating with her young son.

How To Watch Step Up Movies In Order
Image
The more the Step Up franchise evolved, the harder it became to track which order to watch them in. The original installment was the one that gave audiences a preview of the movie star Channing Tatum would evolve into, with the 2006 romantic drama casting him as a troubled youth who discovers a talent for dance. The film was a surprise success, and while Tatum soon departed to bigger things, the Step Up movie franchise itself would prove oddly robust.

There have been six movie entries thus far, though the most recent installment is considered more of a spin-off than part of the main franchise. While they largely scored poor reviews, their impressively choreographed dance sequences and crowd-pleasing formula made the Step Up movies a success. Based on box-office numbers alone, even the lowest-grossing outing was a solid hit, but it appears the series is taking a long break from the big screen.

What Tricia Helfer Did After Battlestar Galactica
Image
After playing Number Six in Battlestar Galactica, Tricia Helfer took on quite a few more acting roles. One of her most notable post-Battlestar roles was playing Charlotte in Lucifer. Helfer will also be appearing in upcoming projects including Hello Beautiful.

Tricia Helfer continued her acting career long after the end of her iconic role in Battlestar Galactica. Before joining the 2005 reboot of the legendary 1978 science fiction series, she began her career as a fashion model in the early 1990s, winning the Ford Models' Supermodel of the World contest in 1992. She retired from the industry in 2002, moving on to a career in acting with early roles that included episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Jeremiah, as well as the Judd Nelson crime thriller White Rush.

Helfer was part of the Battlestar Galactica cast in the 2005 series and continued playing one of the show's main characters for all four seasons through its finale.

‘Step Up’ Canceled After Its One Season On Starz
Image
Exclusive: There will be no fourth season of Step Up (fka Step Up: High Water). Starz has canceled the drama series after its one-season run on the network. The upcoming Season 3 finale, slated to premiere next week, serving as a series finale.

The first two seasons of the Lionsgate TV TV-produced Step Up ran on YouTube. After the Google-owned company in 2019 pulled out of the original scripted business, leaving the series in limbo, Lionsgate-owned Starz stepped in and picked it up for a third season.

The cancellation of Step Up follows Starz’s cancellation yesterday of another Lionsgate TV-produced series, Dangerous Liaisons, reversing its early Season 2 renewal.

Lionsgate has been scrutinizing its balance sheets as the company is preparing to spin off its studio from Starz next year though sources indicated that the cancellations are largely product of fiscal austerity in a very tough economic environment as media companies are stepping up cost-cutting measures.

David Boreanaz, Charisma Carpenter, and Glenn Quinn in Angel - O Caça-Vampiros (1999)
Step Up: High Water Season 3 Episode 3 Review: Player's Ball
David Boreanaz, Charisma Carpenter, and Glenn Quinn in Angel - O Caça-Vampiros (1999)
Oh, yes! That was one insane episode.

Step Up: High Water Season 3 Episode 3 delivered everything. There was romance, sex, betrayal, alliances, and not forgetting Rigo's one hell of a performance at the Bmt awards.

The previous two episodes have felt lazy; we were rehashing the events of the past two seasons. But this episode dials the drama up to one hundred percent.

The episode sets a grand stage for Sage and Rigo's never-ending rivalry. There is no better place for musical kings to face off than at a live televised event. Too bad Sage is banned, and Rigo is not invited.

Stakes are also raised when Rigo and Sage do some insane stuff, and Angel makes her play.

Not to blow my own horn, but rarely am I wrong when I talk about characters. It happens, but seldom. This was one instance in that I wished I was wrong about Angel.

Taylor Russell in Escape Room (2019)
‘Escape Room 2’ Review: Exciting, Illogical Sequel Sets New Elaborate Traps
Taylor Russell in Escape Room (2019)
If you ever wondered what would happen if Walt Disney was also the Jigsaw Killer, then a) you are a very interesting person, and b) these “Escape Room” movies were made for you.

“Escape Room: Tournament of Champions,” the second film in Adam Robitel’s PG-13 horror franchise, solidifies the series’ mission statement to show off a deadly and insidiously complicated amusement park, where the theming is heavy-handed and all the attractions will kill you if you don’t interact with them exactly the way the designers intended.

These aren’t movies about protagonists undergoing a meaningful transformation. They are extended YouTube walkthroughs of the coolest places you’d never, ever want to go.

The original “Escape Room” saw a group of people drawn into a game constructed by the Minos Corporation. Each room they encountered had a different visual theme, and only by solving tricky clues could the heroes escape with their lives.

Keiynan Lonsdale to Replace Petrice Jones in Starz’s ‘Step Up’ Series
Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan in Ela Dança, Eu Danço (2006)
Starz has recast the role of Tal Baker for its “Step Up” TV series. The cable channel said Tuesday that Petrice Jones, the actor who played the part when the show’s first two seasons aired on YouTube, will be replaced by Keiynan Lonsdale.

Jones took a series regular role on a different show, so he was not available for the new season of “Step Up,” which was picked up by Starz in May 2020 after the show, formerly known as “Step Up: High Water,” was canceled at YouTube, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.

Per Starz’ character description, “Once an outcast from Ohio, taken from his mother and dropped in the tough streets of Atlanta. Tal faced persecution for his eccentricities, his sexuality and his refusal to submit to the expectations of others. Dancing his way into High Water, literally, beaten and bloodied, Tal became the pride of Sage Odom...

ABC Developing Latinx Family Drama ‘The Three Joaquins’ From ‘Stumptown’ Writers
Image
ABC is eyeing a potential series from two “Stumptown” writers.

The network has set up a development plus penalty deal for Latinx family drama “The Three Joaquins,” which hails from scribes Manuel Figueroa and Jordan Heimer.

Partially based on Figueroa’s childhood experience, “The Three Joaquins” tells the story of a wealthy and powerful Latinx family who have their Pasadena world turned upside down when the living proof of their father’s secret life arrives on their doorstep in the form of a 16-year-old kid who shares nothing with his family but their name.

The project is being produced by ABC Signature, with Figueroa and Heimer set to write and executive produce.

Other than “Stumptown,” which was canceled in Sept. due to Covid-19 after being renewed earlier in the year, the pair also worked together on Starz’s “Step Up: High Water.” The series, based on the “Step Up” films,...

Faizon Love Sues Universal Over Couples Retreat Poster for Alleged Discrimination
Image
Universal Pictures is in some hot water with actor and comedian Fiazon Love suing the studio over allegations of racial discrimination. Pertaining to Love's involvement in the 2009 romantic comedy Couples Retreat, the lawsuit was filed on Wednesday of this week. The complaint stems from the changes made to the movie's overseas poster, which completely removes the names and images of Love and co-star Kali Hawk while all of their white costars remain.

Faizon Love claims that the change to the posters was deliberate, as while Universal had no problem featuring Black actors and characters, they allegedly chose to segregate them when it came time to promote the movie to an international audience. Love also alleges that when he questioned Universal about the change, the studio played dumb, which screams of "white arrogance in Hollywood."

"It wasn't an accident, it wasn't, 'Hey, we've run out of Black ink,'" Love joked to TMZ,...
